Teaching and Supervision in Counseling

Interdisciplinary collaboration is an effective training model for counselors in training. As it is becoming increasingly likely that counselors will work in multidisciplinary teams post-graduation, engagement in clinical and research intervention teams is essential to promote learning. Benefits for counseling students include the development of self-efficacy, cultural humility, research skills, counseling skills, and interdisciplinary communication and collaboration skills. This article will discuss a federally funded, interdisciplinary intervention for justice-involved emerging adults that provides supported employment, trauma-informed mental health counseling, and peer support interventions. We will outline the interventions, structure of the project, as well as research and assessment outcomes. Future …

Interdisciplinary Collaborations In Schools: Lived Experiences Of School-Based Professionals, Karlesia Montague, Christina Barksdale, Crystal Speaks

Teaching and Supervision in Counseling

Collaboration is an ethical duty of school-based professionals and essential to addressing student needs and maximizing student success. This phenomenological qualitative research study explored the collaborative experiences between school counselors, school-based mental health counselors (SBMHCs), and school social workers. Through semi-structured interviews, we examined the experiences of 12 practicing school-based professionals. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), we identified five group experiential themes: (a) it takes a village, (b) factors that influence collaboration, (c) advantages of teamwork, (d) challenges in collaborating, and (e) recommendations to improve collaborative practices. Implications for graduate training programs and recommendations for future research studies are discussed.

(En)Gendering Capacity: Neoliberalism, Empowerment, And Responsibility For Women In The Un’S Capacity Building Agenda, Sabrina K. Harris

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

This article analyzes how the UN constructs capacity building as an element of its development agenda. It theorizes that the UN operates as a governmental actor, adopting and pursuing a political rationality of good governance, while also navigating structural limitations to its organizational authority in implementing this agenda imposed by the liberal international order. As such, this article argues capacity building emerges as a valuable technology of development for several reasons: firstly, it operates as an individual-level intervention, circumventing UN limitations on authority in mandating state action, and secondly, it is framed as demand-driven and empowering while delivering on the …

Organizing Identities: The Power Of Technofeudalism In A Precarious World – Milei, Youth Precarity, And Post-Partisan (“Anti-Everything”) Identities In Contemporary Argentina, Valeria Brusco Dec 2025

Organizing Identities: The Power Of Technofeudalism In A Precarious World – Milei, Youth Precarity, And Post-Partisan (“Anti-Everything”) Identities In Contemporary Argentina, Valeria Brusco

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

This article explains why an anti-state radical-right agenda can become politically effective in contemporary Argentina by shifting the focus from ideology to the organization of identities. Drawing on survey evidence (ENCResPA, 7,130 online cases collected in 2022) and a corpus of anonymized semi-structured interviews with young people (2024–2025), I argue that Milei’s appeal is best understood as a form of negative politicization: a post-partisan stance built around rejection of mediation (parties, unions, experts, public institutions) and condensed moral narratives (“caste,” “cuts,” “freedom”). I identify an “Anti-Everything/Anti-Todo” identity as an electorally available and affectively intense orientation that travels efficiently …

The Present Interregnum: The Ultra-Right Revolution, María Pía Lara Dec 2025

The Present Interregnum: The Ultra-Right Revolution, María Pía Lara

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

This paper deals with recent political consequences of presentism as conceptualized by the historian Francois Hartog. It clarifies how our experiences of time and history have enlarged the present and the past and have almost disappeared the future (except for catastrophic views). The consequences of these changes in the experiences reflect profound changes in expectations about the future, and how this regime of historicity allows people to become disoriented. They were moved into the margins of precarity. As a result, many of their views on politics find resonance redesigned by the distorted narratives of ultra-right leaders who blame those who …

Maximizing Online Intersession Enrollment Through Targeted Course Offerings, Heather S. Mcmillan, Charles D. Mcallister Dec 2025

Maximizing Online Intersession Enrollment Through Targeted Course Offerings, Heather S. Mcmillan, Charles D. Mcallister

Journal of the North American Management Society

Abstract

Online winter intersession courses have become an increasingly important strategy for universities seeking to support accelerated student progression while generating incremental tuition revenue. This study examines ten years of winter intersession enrollment data from a public, master’s-level comprehensive university in the Midwestern United States to identify course characteristics associated with higher student enrollment. Using 12,520 individual enrollment records, the analysis focuses on course type (general education versus major requirement), course classification (lower level, upper level, blended undergraduate/graduate, and graduate), and course discipline. A series of ANOVAs and Bonferroni post-hoc tests reveal significant differences in enrollment across these dimensions, with …

Organizational Pitfalls Of The Dual-Identity Leader, Yvonne Randolph, Asa Wilson Dec 2025

Organizational Pitfalls Of The Dual-Identity Leader, Yvonne Randolph, Asa Wilson

Journal of the North American Management Society

The dual-identity leader (D-IL) is an individual assigned to one job description yet is, in practice, fulfilling an additional position’s role. This secondary role is self-determined; has not been assigned yet is being allowed by those with governance and/or executive authority. Three case examples of the D-IL are presented and discussed as a problematic leadership configuration for an organization. The personal characteristics driving this approach are identified as a foundation for clarifying the organizational consequences of such an executive leader. Preventative and corrective tactics are discussed that eliminate or minimize the adverse impact of the D-IL’s organizational behavior.

Pluralism And Critique In A Renewed Environmental Anthropology, Helen Kopnina Dec 2025

Pluralism And Critique In A Renewed Environmental Anthropology, Helen Kopnina

Journal of Ecological Anthropology

Environmental anthropology has evolved from early ethnographic traditions that emphasized the interplay between culture and ecology to a field increasingly influenced by ideological perspectives across the political spectrum. Traditionally, anthropologists examined how human societies adapted to their environments through cultural practices, laying the groundwork for ecological anthropology. However, in recent decades, the field has increasingly been shaped by political and theoretical shifts that prioritize critiques of capitalism, colonialism, and environmental injustice—sometimes at the cost of empirical diversity and democratic debate. There are critiques of the broader trend in academia where intellectual discourse becomes dominated by elite-driven ideological conformity. Critics warn …

A Blood-Based Test For Colorectal Cancer Screening, Joshua Cullison Dec 2025

A Blood-Based Test For Colorectal Cancer Screening, Joshua Cullison

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Within the United States (US), colorectal cancer (CRC) remains the fourth most common malignancy and is responsible for over 50 000 deaths annually, second only to lung cancer in cancer mortality. Despite increased public awareness and increasing screening rates, the US remains far below the 80% screening mark set by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable at 59%. The addition of non-invasive blood-based tests for CRC screening could potentially increase screening rates and lower CRC deaths.

I performed a PubMed search using the search term “blood-based colorectal cancer screening.” I was particularly interested in articles that looked at Shield, which is …

Wilson’S Disease Psychosis In A Young Man With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case Report And Focus On Management, Landon C. Sowell, Barbara L. Gracious

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Introduction

Wilson's disease is a rare autosomal recessive disorder, affecting approximately 1 in 30 000 individuals and is characterized by abnormal copper accumulation in the body, primarily affecting the liver and brain. Psychiatric manifestations as a first presentation, particularly psychosis, are less commonly recognized resulting in failure to begin treatment early in the course of the disease. This case report highlights a patient that presented to the hospital with psychosis, who was later diagnosed with Wilson’s disease. This case underscores the importance of considering organic causes in first-episode psychosis.

Case Presentation

An 18-year-old man with a history of autism spectrum …

Masld-Induced Hyperammonemia With Atypical, Restricted Diffusion Pattern Suggesting Mixed Metabolic And Hypoxic-Anoxic Injury, Renu Thomas, Nhuchau Tiffany Nguyen, Daniel Bao, Jonathan Tang, Uzma Ali, Damon Cao

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Background

Hepatic encephalopathy is a common cause of altered mental status for patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Their conditions typically improve with high-dose laxatives; if not optimally treated, can develop neurologic sequelae like cerebral edema and herniation. In severe cases, despite normal systemic oxygenation, hyperammonemia may result in mixed restricted diffusion patterns that partially resemble those seen in hypoxic-anoxic brain injury.

Case Presentation

A 61-year-old woman with cirrhosis secondary to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis presented to the emergency room with altered mental status. She was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and was intubated due …

Presentation Of Cutaneous Large B-Cell Lymphoma, Leg Type, Francisca I. Valenzuela, Michael R. Hohnadel

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

A man over the age of 89 presented with 2 violaceous, ulcerated plaques on his left lower leg, which developed over a 4-month period following a fall. The patient reported the initial formation of a solitary lump, which gradually enlarged and began bleeding a few weeks before his clinic visit. A histological examination of 2 biopsy samples revealed a dermal proliferation of large, severely atypical lymphoid cells with mitotic figures. Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for CD20, Bcl2, Bcl6, and MUM1, with cytokeratin 20 (CK20) negativity and a high percentage (80%-90%) of C-MYC positivity, which was consistent with a primary cutaneous diffuse …

Early identification of colonized individuals upon hospital admission is essential for effective infection control. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of pooled MRSA screening using the GeneXpert®system (Cepheid) under two conditions: with and without viral transport media (VTM). The goal was to assess the sensitivity of pooling strategies while minimizing reagent use, processing time, and laboratory workload. Swabs were collected from three anatomical sites, the axilla, groin, and nares, from newly admitted patients. Samples were pooled either with VTM or without VTM and then tested using the Xpert®MRSA …

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem Dec 2025

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

Despite rapid progress in natural language processing, artificial intelligence (AI) systems continue to struggle with languages characterized by high morphological complexity, such as Turkish. A central difficulty lies in their limited ability to resolve ambiguity, which is deeply embedded in Turkish through features like flexible word order, extensive case marking, and agglutinative structures. Current AI models, primarily shaped by exposure to massive corpora of performance data, excel at detecting surface-level statistical regularities but fall short of grasping the grammatical principles and semantic nuances that underpin genuine linguistic competence. This reliance on performance over competence makes disambiguation especially problematic, as the …

Artificial Intelligence In Higher Education: A Bibliometric And Science-Mapping Analysis From An Institutional And Management Perspective, Kürşat Taştan, Nalan Sabır Taştan

Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

This article maps the field of artificial intelligence in higher education (HEI-AI) from an institutional and management perspective. We draw on 52,270 peer-reviewed articles and reviews indexed in Web of Science and Scopus between 1959 and 2025. Using the bibliometrix package and its biblioshiny interface in R, we combine descriptive indicators with science-mapping techniques, including co-authorship and co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrence, thematic mapping and thematic evolution. The initial corpus of 94,845 records was cleaned by merging the two databases, removing duplicates and restricting the sample to full-length journal articles and reviews that explicitly address AI in higher education.

The results …

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten Dec 2025

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten

Yale Working Papers in Grammatical Diversity

In this paper I examine the syntax and semantics of English nonfactive verbs, bare nominals, and small clauses through the colloquial constructions it’s giving and screams+NP. I aim to explain the formality of nonfactives with DP small clauses in American English, as well as the informality of bare nominals in adjectival positions. First I propose a semantics for two nonfactive heads: vATT and vEVI. I demonstrate that all variation in the selection of English small clause type can be reduced to selection by category, and that these nonfactive heads have lost the ability to c-select for …
