Extending The Emotional And Multiple Intelligence Theories: Integrating Cultural And Spiritual Intelligence Constructs To Fill Research Gaps, Kimberly J. Mcdonald
Extending The Emotional And Multiple Intelligence Theories: Integrating Cultural And Spiritual Intelligence Constructs To Fill Research Gaps, Kimberly J. Mcdonald
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
This proposed mixed-methods convergent research study aims to explore extending the Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Multiple Intelligences Theories by integrating Spiritual Intelligence (SI) and Cultural Intelligence (CQ) constructs. The goal is to explore the interconnectedness of these intelligences to bridge existing research gaps concerning leadership, EI, SI, and CQ. By employing both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods from organizational leaders, this study seeks to develop a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of leadership efficacy across various organizational contexts. The anticipated outcomes aim to contribute to the body of knowledge and potentially impact leadership development in business, education, and other …

Article Title: Deconstructing Power And Gender: A Foucauldian Discourse Analysis Of Biopolitics, Necropolitics, And Sexual Scripts In Feminicide In Puerto Rico., Migdalia Marrero-Lafontaine
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
Feminicide and gender violence cases in the last several decades in Puerto Rico have continuously increased, suggesting that this problem becomes worse as time passes. This study, therefore, focuses on identifying actionable insights that paint a picture of the impact it has on women over the age of 18 in Puerto Rico. In order to achieve this objective, the study relies on a strong theoretical framework that is made up of Foucauldian discourse analysis, necropolitics, and sexual scripts theories. One of the core findings of this research is that Puerto Rico’s colonial history and cultural norms sustain a cycle of …
The Detrimental Impact Of Early Childhood Exposure To Pornography, Leica Marie Estomo
The Detrimental Impact Of Early Childhood Exposure To Pornography, Leica Marie Estomo
The Scholarship Without Borders Journal
As pornography continues to become more easily and readily accessible, children are at higher risk of viewing it. This work aims to investigate the destructive impact of premature exposure to pornography, and the negative perceptions of sex and decision-making towards it as a result. The operational definition used defines “early exposure” as prepubescents (children of elementary-grade school ages) viewing explicit material through involuntary and accidental initial engagement, and “decision-making” as moral agency and choice of response and action. The populations searched focused more on American culture and its lens on sex and pornography, with the incorporation of other cultural frameworks …

In this paper, we use the pseudonym ABC Pharmaceuticals (ABC) to refer to the company under examination, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). ABC Pharmaceutical (ABC) must assess, adapt, and change to ensure regulatory compliance, maintain and attract employees, and remain competitive. ABC has a history of erroneous practices and is at risk internally with employees, and externally with regulators and the public sectors. The authors applied J.P. Kotter’s (1996) 8-step and the ADKAR (Hiatt, 2006) models for change management. J.P. Kotter’s top-down model addresses leadership’s role in creating a compelling vision aligned with its actions, and the ADKAR bottom-up model assesses employees’ readiness …

Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics
Mental health and psychological well-being continue to be significant areas of concern for collegiate student-athletes. Researchers have identified the perceived barriers preventing student-athletes from using mental health services which include lack of knowledge, limited access, and perceived negative stigma (e.g., Harris & Maher, 2023; Yoon & Petrie, 2023). Organizational culture, loosely defined as a group’s accumulated shared learning (Schein & Schein, 2017), plays an important role in guiding the behaviors of its members. Developing a positive athletic department culture around mental health can, in turn, be beneficial to increasing student-athletes’ help-seeking behaviors. The purpose of this study was to explore …

When Students Snap: Thoughts About Radical Study Within The Impasse Of Trinity College, Isaac Kamola
When Students Snap: Thoughts About Radical Study Within The Impasse Of Trinity College, Isaac Kamola
#CritEdPol: Journal of Critical Education Policy Studies at Swarthmore College
This contribution explores two Instagram accounts—@BlackAtTrin and @TrinSurvivors— published during the summer of 2020 which, in the context of nation-wide protests against the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, became important forums for documenting, publicizing, and archiving the lived student experiences of systemic racism and sexual violence at Trinity College. Using Eli Meyerhoff’s book Beyond Education as a framework, this essay examines how students and alumni “snapped” at the college, making demands in ways that attempted to grapple with the impasse of decades of systemic racism and misogyny at Trinity, and society at large. These efforts to confront the …
Anticolonial Study: Anton De Kom And We Slaves Of Suriname, Jonneke Koomen
Anticolonial Study: Anton De Kom And We Slaves Of Suriname, Jonneke Koomen
#CritEdPol: Journal of Critical Education Policy Studies at Swarthmore College
In 1933 Anton de Kom set up an advice bureau in his family’s yard in Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname, then a Dutch colony. After years of living in The Netherlands, De Kom wanted to hear the klachten (complaints) of Surinamese workers and the unemployed. Thousands responded to De Kom’s invitation; the descendants of African slaves and Asian indentured workers, Indigenous peoples, and Maroon leaders traveled from the South American plantations and forests to share their experiences of exploitation and abuse. After a month, police arrived to shut down De Kom’s listening project, hundreds of Javanese workers squatted in his …
Understanding Alternative Modes Of Study In The 2018 K12 Education Strikes, Erin Dyke
Understanding Alternative Modes Of Study In The 2018 K12 Education Strikes, Erin Dyke
#CritEdPol: Journal of Critical Education Policy Studies at Swarthmore College
In this article, I draw on Eli Meyerhoff’s (2019) Beyond Education: Radical Studying for Another World to suggest that the 2018 “red state” K12 education strikes created spaces, if momentary and often fraught, for many education workers to engage or expand alternative modes of study, modes that have long constituted predominantly women- and rank-and-file-led educator labor organizing. First, I elaborate Eli Meyerhoff’s theorization of modes of study as world-making in the context of education labor organizing and unions. Specifically, I engage his important critique of education as a particular, romanticized mode of study that contributes to liberal capitalist world-making. …

Evans Jr, Julie Harrison Swartz, Harrison Ndetan, Damian Francis, John Moore, Mary Kozub, Ernie Kaninjing, Jennifer Jones-Locklear, Debbie Greene, Josie Doss
Journal of Public Health in the Deep South
Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) applications within the health sciences including education and healthcare practice are now common. Patients are likely to apply AI to better understand their health status or to learn what they can do to improve their health.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate outputs from ChatGPT for three common health conditions seen in the southern United States as to whether it would include medically biased care or lifestyle related advice, legitimate sources of information and to assess reading levels generated.
Methods: Health care professionals rated outputs in 4 areas and interrater …

Assessing Education And Training Of Developmental Screening Tools Among Residents In A Southern Academic Medical Center, Paige Seabrook, Dustin E. Sarver, Susan Buttross
Journal of Public Health in the Deep South
Background: Developmental disabilities are highly common. Early identification of developmental disabilities is critical, but many practitioners, including those in Southern U.S. states like Mississippi, do not utilize developmental screening tools.
Purpose: We aimed to identify modifiable targets within resident training experiences and their correlates using a quality improvement approach to serve as a baseline for intervention efforts.
Methods: Medical residents (N = 57) in pediatrics (n = 26), combined medicine-pediatrics (n = 12), and family medicine (n = 19) completed a survey assessing training, attitudes, practices, and perceived barriers regarding using screening tools. Perceived barriers were …

Behind Barbed Wire: Jack Powerful Griss And The Material Culture Of Dieppe Pows At Stalag Viii-B, Teresa Iacobelli
Canadian Military History
Through a collection of material culture that includes letters, ephemera and objects, this article traces the Second World War service of Private Jack Powerful Griss. Griss was a survivor of Dieppe and subsequently interned as a POW from 1942 to 1945. Griss’ collection of donated materials reveals his personal story but also sheds light of the broader experience of captivity, especially among the Canadians captured at Dieppe, France in 1942 who were imprisoned in Germany until the end of the Second World War.

A Clash Of Conflicting Priorities: Why Did The Battle For The Beveland Causeway Last Almost Three Weeks? 7 October - 24 October 1944, Robert W. Catsburg
Canadian Military History
This article examines the 2nd Canadian Division’s nearly three-week campaign to drive German forces from the Beveland Causeway, a key part of the Battle of the Scheldt. Despite having superior numbers, the Canadians—led by Brigadier Holley Keefler—were unable to break through the enemy lines at Woensdrecht. In the secondary literature, high praise is given to the skill of the German battle group, at the expense of Canadian combat effectiveness. Drawing on primary sources, this article highlights the aggravating factors that contributed to this unexpected stalemate. It shows that, independent of the courage and ability of the soldiers on the ground, …
