Embedding According To Al-Zamakhshari In His Interpretation: An Applied Study On Surat Al-Baqarah, Nidal I. Gabareen, Mohsen S. Al-Khaldi
An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)
Embedding is one of the remarkable Arabic rhetoric methods. It contains brevity and abbreviation, and various rhetorical secrets such as exaggeration, denigration, expanding meanings, etc. Many commentators and scholars have been concerned with demonstrating The Noble Qur’an's illustrative and rhetorical miracle, and one of the most important interpretations concerned with this aspect is Al-Kashshaf’s interpretation by Al-Zamakhshari. Objective: This research aimed to study different implications mentioned by Al-Zamakhshari in the interpretation of Surat Al-Baqarah in his book. In addition, the study aimed to clarify his rhetorical and devise approach. Methodology: The researchers adopted the inductive, then descriptive and analytical approach. …

Repositioning North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato): The New Security Dilemma On Trans–Atlantic Relations Amid Shifting Global Geopolitics, Daniel C. George, Indra Alverdian
Journal of Strategic and Global Studies
The shifting global geopolitics have led to a new security dilemma in Europe, especially in trans–Atlantic relations. NATO as the vanguard of the trans–Atlantic defense pact is faced with transitional conditions of non-conventional threats that return to conventional threats. Due to the shift in the new global order, these threats require a repositioning for NATO to counter the new security dilemma amidst shifting global geopolitics. By referring to the three asserted pillars–the return of conventional warfare on the European continent; a more assertive Russia in the European continent under Vladimir Putin; and the geopolitical of China's rise impacted trans–-Atlantic …
The History And Manifestations Of The Metaverse In Contemporary Literature, Marlon Semuel Contantin Kansil, Wanting Sun
The History And Manifestations Of The Metaverse In Contemporary Literature, Marlon Semuel Contantin Kansil, Wanting Sun
Journal of Strategic and Global Studies
The metaverse, an interactive and immersive virtual world, has emerged as a critical theme in contemporary literature, significantly impacting narratives and character development. This paper explores the history and literary manifestations of the metaverse, investigating its influence on identity, space, and social interactions. We find that the metaverse supports flexible and individualistic identities, reshaping how characters and readers understand themselves. The digital space of the metaverse provides a dynamic setting for moral and emotional conflicts, enriching the literary aesthetics of space. Furthermore, literature plays a crucial role in both shaping and reflecting the concept of the metaverse, employing symbolism and …

Rethinking Rupture And Continuity: Al-Jarād And Khamāsīn, Two Poetry Magazines Of The Egyptian 1990s, Caroline Benson
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis analyzes two Egyptian poetry magazines, al-Jarād and Khamāsīn, to enrich critical understanding of the Egyptian literary 1990s. It uses The Rules of Art: Genesis and Structure of the Literary Field (Les Règles de l’art: Genèse et structure du champ littéraire), Pierre Bourdieu’s 1992 sociological study of the literary field, as a theoretical framework. Numerous scholars have noted that the “nineties generation” is known for its aversion to politics, ideologies, and collectivities; its rupture with stylistic and thematic conventions of its predecessors; and its turn away from the “major issues” (al-qaḍāyah al-kubrā) of the …
The Principles Of Islamic Moral Philosophy And The Possibility Of Re-Conceptualizing Classical Islamic Aesthetics Of Architecture, Muhammad Feteha
The Principles Of Islamic Moral Philosophy And The Possibility Of Re-Conceptualizing Classical Islamic Aesthetics Of Architecture, Muhammad Feteha
Theses and Dissertations
This study is primarily concerned with the intersection of the moral and aesthetic theories of Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī (d. 1111). Al-Ghazālī’s theory of aesthetics has been the subject of thorough scholarly investigations and diverse interpretations in the field of Islamic art history since the 1940s. This thesis critiques the premises upon which the use of al-Ghazālī’s writings in studies of Islamic art and architecture were built. It suggests that they lead to what could be described as “the contradiction of unethical beauty.” To overcome this contradiction, it offers a comprehensive interpretation of al-Ghazālī’s aesthetics through analyzing the concept ḥusn in …
Local And Transregional Networks Of Women In Late Medieval Mecca And The Mamluk Empire, Mona Hafiz
Local And Transregional Networks Of Women In Late Medieval Mecca And The Mamluk Empire, Mona Hafiz
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the local and transregional networks of women in Mecca during the ninth/fifteenth century, as represented in the biographical dictionaries of al-Sakhāwī (d. 902/1497), Ibn Fahd (d. 885/1480), and al-Fāsī (d. 832/1429). It combines qualitative and quantitative methods in order to analyze the family, knowledge, and travels networks of women in late medieval Mecca and the Mamluk empire. It argues that Meccan women’s social and intellectual roles extended beyond their families, to other families, scholars, and regions. Simultaneously, the thesis focuses on Mecca as a central node in the networks that tied together different regions of the Mamluk …
The Flint Assemblage From Ashqelon Afridar, Area N (Pp. 29–33), Maya Oron
The Flint Assemblage From Ashqelon Afridar, Area N (Pp. 29–33), Maya Oron
'Atiqot
The flint assemblage recovered from the excavation at Ashqelon Afridar, Area N, is limited in size. The main diagnostic tools are the Canaanean and sickle blades, characteristic of Early Bronze Age assemblages, with very few exceptions dating to the Chalcolithic period. The appearance of Egyptian items in an early context at Ashqelon may indicate the beginning of the Egyptian influence or presence in the region during the Early Bronze Age period.

The Early Bronze Age Site Of Ashqelon Afridar, Area N (Pp. 1–27), Amir Golani
'Atiqot
The excavation in Area N exposed two occupation strata (Strata III and II) dating from Early EB I, which were heavily damaged by later Byzantine-period and modern intrusions (Stratum I). The pottery assemblage comprises three main types: bowls, holemouth jars and storage jars. The vessels are handmade, probably locally produced. Also found were a small assemblage of groundstone artifacts, one small copper-alloy awl, flint artifacts, fauna remains and molluscs. These findings are an important contribution to our understanding of the early stages of the EB I occupation at Ashqelon Afridar, also termed the ‘lost horizon’ or ‘missing link,’ in southern …

Evaluation Of The Accuracy Of Instagram Translation Feature In Interpreting Islamic Arabic Poetry, Falen Hamzah Al-Agil, Basuni Imamuddin
International Review of Humanities Studies
This study focuses on evaluating the capabilities of Instagram translation feature in translating Arabic Islamic poetry, a literary genre rich in linguistic nuances and cultural context. Employing a qualitative methodology, this research conducts a comprehensive comparative analysis between the automatic translations produced by Instagram and manual translations done by experts. The findings reveal that, despite being useful, Instagram's translation feature often fails to fully capture the essence of Arabic Islamic poetry, with significant errors in understanding context and language nuances. These errors include inaccuracies in translating key words and difficulties in interpreting deeper meanings often closely tied to cultural and …

Translation Research As Reflection On Translation Practice And Product: The Case Of Saudi Arabia, Waleed Bleyhesh Al-Amri Dr.
Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities
Translation activities in Saudi Arabia have significantly increased due to government initiatives and technological advancements within modernization efforts. This paper analyzes Saudi Arabia’s research carried on translation practices and outcomes using a bibliometric approach on 193 publications by 164 authors across 31 fields. The analysis shows a predominance of classroom-related research, with 61.14% focusing on pedagogy, reflecting local practices and global trends in translation studies as shown by earlier research. Despite the growing interest, critical areas such as audiovisual translation, tourism, and video games translation remain under-researched. The study identifies gaps and suggests future research directions, emphasizing the need for …

Gat-Govrin (Naḥal Qomem): A Late Chalcolithic Site In The Northern Negev (Pp. 1–25), Hamoudi Khalaily, Sorin Hermon
'Atiqot
A salvage excavation at Gat-Govrin, located in the southern coastal plain, exposed an archaeological layer subdivided into two sedimentological levels. At the base of the archaeological layer were pits—some shallow and wide, others deep and bell-shaped. Ten pits were excavated; all contained potsherds, stone vessels and flint artifacts. The homogeneous pottery assemblage, manufactured from local material, is characteristic of the Chalcolithic repertoire. The flint artifacts include Canaanean blades, some retouched and with gloss. It appears that the Gat-Govrin site was a seasonal settlement, occupied by small groups toward the end of the Chalcolithic period (last quarter of the fourth millennium …

Punish Yet Cannot Discipline: Two Iraqi Prison Novels, Hanan Jasim Khammas
Punish Yet Cannot Discipline: Two Iraqi Prison Novels, Hanan Jasim Khammas
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Al-Munāḍil (The Militant) (1972) by ʿAzīz al-Sayyid Jāsim, and Iʿjām (Iʿjaam) (2004) by Sinan Antoon are two prison novels about the historical turning points which mark the rise and fall of the Baʿth regime in Iraq. While the first employs imprisonment as a lens through to expose the corruption and injustice exercised by the monarchy against the emergent revolutionary power, the second shows the Baʿthist government applying similar methods of surveillance, and of physical and psychological torture. Reading these texts by al-Sayyid Jāsim, who died in the Baʿth prisons, and by Antoon who wrote Iʿjaam …
The Absurdity Of Liberation In Moroccan Prison Narratives, Hakima Choukri
The Absurdity Of Liberation In Moroccan Prison Narratives, Hakima Choukri
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
Moroccan prison narratives have been credited with major political and social changes, yet their existential value is equally worth acknowledging. The prison narratives of Aziz Binebine, Mohamed Raiss, Malika Oufkir, and Fatna El Bouih, to mention but a few, are fraught with existentialist patterns that are uncovered upon reading them comparatively. One pattern that persists through these narratives is the absurdity of liberation. Borrowing Camus’ concept of the absurd, this article highlights the absurdity of the post-prison chapter for being nothing more than an extension of the prison episode that makes the impossibility of freedom acutely felt. The absurdity of …

Rhetorical Figures In Image: A Semiotic And Argument Approach, Youness Laghouibi
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
Based on the principle that every image carries a narrative; we relied in this study on the narrative semiotics to decipher its meanings. This led us through the extended arguments to uncover a variety of rhetorical figures such as comparison, metaphors, meronymy, and metonymy – the common figures of speech used in linguistic discourse to influence the addressee and direct them towards the intended destination.

It Is Not Her Fault She Didn’T Know Mary Had A Lamb, Samer Ridikkuluz
Theses and Dissertations
“It is not her fault she didn’t know Mary had a lamb” is not an Arab Queer conflict. It is the genocide of everything they told me art was and the decolonial clarity of what art can be. Whether it be bridging the gap between the East and the West, the straights and the gays, or me and the world—I investigate the human condition, the parts we play, and how identity evolves and hides.

The Imperial Origins Of Genocide: Colonial Discourses And The Genocides In Timor-Leste And Rwanda, Zoe S. Appio
The Imperial Origins Of Genocide: Colonial Discourses And The Genocides In Timor-Leste And Rwanda, Zoe S. Appio
Honors Theses
This project aims to compare the ideological and structural colonial legacies that created the tensions for genocide to occur in Timor-Leste and Rwanda. It also aims to understand how these colonial legacies inhibited the international community's response and exacerbated the genocides. The genocide in Timor-Leste occurred from 1975 to 2002 and was perpetrated by the Indonesian government against the native Timorese population. The genocide in Rwanda occurred from April to July of 1994 and was perpetrated by the Hutu majority against the Tutsi minority. Throughout this thesis, I argue that colonial legacies like nationalism, racial hierarchies, and the maintenance of …
Nothing Gets In The Way Of A Good Argument, Kai Fine
Nothing Gets In The Way Of A Good Argument, Kai Fine
CMC Senior Theses
For much of Western history, the prevailing process of creating a proof for the existence of a thing (often suggested to be God) outside the causal chain was done by following that very causal chain. One of the most well known of these theories was created by Avicenna. Through following his classification of objects, one was thought to be able to “prove” the necessity for a thing that was necessary in and of itself, and separate from all other things. In this paper I outline the strongest section of Avicenna’s argument, illustrating his classifications. I then turn to Graham Priest’s …

The Massai People And Wealth: A Stewardship Of Totality, Youssry Guirguis
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
The concept of wealth among the Massai people differs significantly from the traditional understanding in contemporary societies. To the Massai people wealth is not measured by money as commonly perceived by people today, but rather exhibits itself by land, social status, and livestock. This article examines a few terms used by the Massai people to define the idea of wealth in order to comprehend their unique cultural dimensions. Terms that are related to wealth will be investigated, such as “land” (enkop), “red God” (enkai Nanyokie), “black God” (enkai Narok), “cattle” (inkishu), “goats and sheep,” “wealth” (emali), and “dowry” (Inkishu/ Olpisiai). …

Attitudes And Perceptions Toward The Qassimi Dialect, Fahad M. Alwehaibi
Theses and Dissertations
This study explores attitudes and perceptions surrounding the Qassimi dialect within Saudi Arabia. It addresses two primary questions: What are the attitudes of Qassimi speakers toward their own dialect? and What are the perceptions of non-Qassimi Saudi citizens regarding the Qassimi dialect in terms of stereotypes and its speakers? To investigate these questions, the research employed two population-specific surveys—one for Qassimi speakers and another for non-Qassimi participants—alongside semi-structured interviews with selected Qassimi individuals to gain deeper qualitative insights. The findings reveal that Qassimi speakers generally express strong pride and a positive emotional connection to their dialect, viewing it as a …
