Network Pharmacology And Molecular Docking Analysis Of Nephelium Lappaceum (Rambutan) Compounds As Potential Alternative Treatments For Lung Cancer, Dwi Utami, Muhammad Farid, Rachma Greta Perdana Putri
Makara Journal of Science
Introduction: Lung cancer is characterized by high mortality rates and poor prognosis, further requiring alternative therapies owing to the adverse effects of conventional chemotherapy. Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) has antimicrobial, antiproliferative, and antioxidant properties and can cure cancer. Method: Compounds from rambutan peel were identified through PubChem and analyzed for physicochemical properties using SwissADME. Target proteins were identified using SuperPred and compared with lung cancer–related proteins from GeneCards via Venny. Protein interactions were examined and visualized using STRING and Cytoscape, respectively. Protein activity was analyzed using WebGestalt, and docking simulations were performed using Autodock 4.2.6. Result: Physicochemical analysis of …

Neutrosophic Set Model For Controlling Electronic Waste Requirements Management Policies To Minimize Ecological Impact And Improving Resilience And Sustainability, Mohamed Abouhawwash, Nitin Mittal, Sudeep Tanwar
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
The growing issue of electronic waste (e-waste) necessitates management approaches that promote sustainability and resilience while reducing environmental effects, particularly considering global disruptions and pressure on manufacturers to implement extended producer responsibility laws. There is a research gap in our knowledge of the link between sustainability and resilience since most of the literature currently available on e-waste management focuses on either operational efficiency or sustainability. This study proposes multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methodology for controlling electronic waste requirements management policies to minimize ecological impact and improving resilience and sustainability. We use the EDAS methodology to rank the alternatives. The criteria …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
The development of natural capital is a fundamental objective within sustainable agricultural systems, where the optimization of both crop and livestock production is vital to addressing global food demands. Despite this imperative, major agricultural sectors such as paddy and rubber production, often fall short of satisfying consumption needs. This study aims to identify and prioritize the most influential criteria for sustainable agriculture using the Bipolar Neutrosophic Set-based Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (BNS-DEMATEL) method. Expert evaluations were elicited from five agricultural specialists using linguistic assessments to analyze the performance and interdependencies among sustainability criteria. Computational analyses were conducted using MATLAB …

Some New Three-Term Conjugate Gradient Methods For Riemannian Optimization With Application To The Gough-Stewart Platform, Nasiru Salihu, Poom Kumam, Lin Wang, Sani Salisu
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
Three-term conjugate gradient (TTCG) methods have been extensively studied for optimization within Euclidean geometry, with some inherently satisfying the sufficient descent property, thus enhancing their theoretical superiority. However, other TTCG methods have been developed that incorporate restarting the search direction, simplify the steepest descent approach, or rely on the convexity assumptions of f to establish their convergence results. This paper introduces the Riemannian three-term conjugate gradient (RTTCG) methods. The search direction in these RTTCG methods consistently satisfies the sufficient descent condition, regardless of the line search employed, and does so without requiring a restart mechanism. By utilizing retraction and vector …

Trophic Niche Overlap Between Native And Alien Fish Species: A Challenge For The Aquatic Ecosystems, Rana Manzoor Ahmad, Abdul Majid Khan, Mariya Basharat, Muhammad Rizwan, Neelam Shahzadi, Muhammad Imran
Journal of Bioresource Management
The different physiological and biological challenges are introduced not only on land but also in aquatic ecosystems due to increasing climatic changes and human needs. One of these challenges is the introduction of invasive alien species to the native freshwater ichthyofauna. These species not only disturb the ecological balance of the native water bodies but can also be a vector for parasitic diseases. The current study is designed to disclose the trophic niche overlap among exotic (Cyprinus carpio and Oreochromis mozambicus) and indigenous fish species (Labeo calbasu and Cirrhinus mrigala) from Head Baloki (Ravi River), Punjab, …

Alterations in lipid profiles have been shown in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of cytochrome P450 family-1 subfamily B member 1 (CYP1B1) in cigarette smoke (CS)-induced lipid accumulation in alveolar type II epithelial (AT2) cells. We observed a steady increase in CYP1B1 protein levels in AT2 cells from COPD patients. Additionally, CS exposure induced CYP1B1 expression in AT2 cells of murine lungs. In vitro, treatment with cigarette smoke extract (CSE) not only upregulated CYP1B1 expression but also triggered lipid accumulation in AT2-like …

Social learning enables a subject to make decisions by observing the actions of another. How neural circuits acquire relevant information during observation to guide subsequent behavior is unknown. Utilizing an observational spatial working memory task, we show that neurons in the rat anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) associated with spatial trajectories during self-running in a maze are reactivated when observing another rat running the same maze. The observation-induced ACC activities are reduced in error trials and are correlated with activities of hippocampal place cells representing the same trajectories. The ACC activities during observation also predict subsequent hippocampal place cell activities during …

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences
Urban densification threatens biodiversity, yet conventional greenspace expansion is con-strained by limited land availability. Living wall systems (LWS) offer potential biodiversity enhancement through vertical green infrastructure, though their ecological value re-mains underexplored. This study evaluated the biodiversity performance of three LWS in Plymouth, UK, using multi-taxa surveys to assess invertebrate communities, bird assemblages, and bat activity. A scoping review of 2,638 publications revealed limited research on LWS biodiversity, with only 27% of biodiversity-focused papers referencing specific species. Field surveys employed standardized protocols including flower-visiting pollinator observations, spider assessments, soil invertebrate extraction using Tullgren funnels, acoustic bird monitoring, and bat emergence …

Reworlding The Human: A Review Of Symbiotic Posthumanist Ecologies In Western Literature, Philosophy And Art, Asunción López-Varela Azcárate
Mabini Review
In recent decades, the interdisciplinary encounter between posthumanism and the environmental humanities has engendered rich intellectual terrain for rethinking the status of the human, the function of narrative, and the ethical imperatives of multispecies coexistence. The edited volume Symbiotic Posthumanist Ecologies in Western Literature, Philosophy and Art: Towards Theory and Practice (Peter Lang, 2023), curated by Peggy Karpouzou and Nikoleta Zampaki, contributes significantly to this dialogue. Organized in three thematic sections— “Framing the Symbiotic Posthumanist Ecologies,” “Symbiotic Posthumanist Ecologies in Literature and Art” and “Symbiotic Posthumanist Ecologies in Continental Philosophy”—the book weaves a cohesive tapestry that connects speculative fiction, ecological …

Mabini Review
This paper examines and translates five archipelagic poems by José Martí using the approaches of indirect translation and eco-translation. Through selected works from the collection Versos Libres (1913), Martí’s poetry is situated within the intercolonial relations between Cuba and the Philippines—two nations that underwent similar colonial experiences and share a strong tradition of anti-imperialist struggle. As a poet and revolutionary, Martí played a crucial role in Cuba’s liberation from the Spanish Empire. The selected and translated poems tulang “Midnight” (“Hatinggabi”), “Famous Island” (“Tanyag na Isla”), “Like Palm Trees Born in the Sand” (“Tulad ng mga Palmang Sumibol sa Buhangin”), “I …

Traslación: From Mythos To Kairos, Johanne Randolf Andrada, Dominic Bautista Gonzales
Mabini Review
The pre-colonial Philippines was a vibrant archipelago filled with diverse faiths, ethnicities, and cultures, reflecting a rich blend of indigenous beliefs and practices. When Spanish colonization arrived, it dramatically transformed the religious landscape, introducing Christianity. Yet, remnants of pre-colonial spiritual traditions persisted, often merging with Catholic practices to create a distinct form of faith. This paper aims to explore the Traslación through various scholars. The focal point of this exploration is the Traslación, an annual event held every January 9 at Quiapo Church, which highlights the deep devotion many Filipinos have for the Black Nazarene. By drawing on both Western …

Neurolink-X: Restoring Brain–Body Communication Via An Implantable Neural Interface, George Karelias, George Karelias
Defensive Publications Series
Spinal cord injuries, stroke, and neurodegenerative diseases can disrupt motor pathways, causing severe loss of mobility and independence. NeuroLink-X proposes an implantable brain–body neural interface that restores connectivity by decoding cortical activity, bypassing damaged pathways, and delivering stimulation to muscles or spinal neurons. Unlike external prosthetics, NeuroLink-X is designed as a fully implantable, adaptive, closed-loop system that leverages AI-driven decoders and functional electrical stimulation to re-establish voluntary motor control. This article outlines the system’s architecture, methodology, and potential applications, supported by current advances in brain–computer interfaces and neuroprosthetics.
Vestigial Fiscal Constitutions, Joe Schomberg
Vestigial Fiscal Constitutions, Joe Schomberg
St. John's Law Review
(Excerpt)
This Article examines the history and original intent of fiscal constitutions in the United States, providing helpful context for their usefulness today. It argues that, due to the rigidity of states’ fiscal constitutions, they are ultimately ineffective at preventing state and local governments from incurring more and more debt. Ultimately, it suggests that the weakness of state fiscal constitutions is a result of their functionality being overtaken by increased efficiencies in the capital markets and Tiebout-Tullock markets. Our state fiscal constitutions have suffered the same fate as our wisdom teeth or appendixes—they have become less useful and less relied …

Investigating Processes For Pattern Creation Using Coupled Bulk-Surface Pdes When Linear Reactions Occur, Muflih Alhazmi
University of Bisha Journal for Basic and Applied Sciences
In this paper, the reaction-diffusion partial differential equations governing the coupled bulk surface in the presence of linear reactions are investigated. Suitable boundary conditions of linear Robin-type are imposed for the aforementioned system in both the bulk and on the surface on stationary volumes. The current situation is simulated using four PDE’s, namely, two equations for the bulk, and other two different equations are introduced for the surface bounding. The analyses methodology is depending on converting the system into dimensionless forms then rigorous linear stability analysis is performed to determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for pattern formation. Various cases …

Property Rights In The Face Of Historic Injustice, Bas Van Der Vossen, Fabian Wendt
Philosophy Faculty Articles and Research
It seems natural to adopt a historical approach when it comes to property titles: When property titles have a clean history, they are to be respected as a matter of justice; when they do not have a clean history, for example, in cases of prior theft, they must be returned to the original owners or their descendants. But the historical approach has serious drawbacks. This paper presents an alternative. Starting from the idea that property rights must be stable, we offer an account of why historic injustices sometimes do, but sometimes do not, undermine current titles. This account offers a …

Addressing The Abuse Of Monopsony Power In Labor Markets: Examining Potential Public And Civil Law Remedies And Sanctions, Zofia M. Mazur
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
Although thousands of reported cases involve allegations of firms illegally forming cartels in product markets, relatively few deal with similar allegations in labor markets. Moreover, as observed in legal doctrine, labor markets tend to be more concentrated than product markets and, consequently, more susceptible to anticompetitive conducts by undertakings. The article, therefore, analyzes the so-called monopsony power in the labor market, which refers to any case where employers hold labor market power that allows them to unilaterally determine wages or to worsen working conditions by reducing employment.
It is argued that competition law should be used to effectively curb abuse …
