Evaluating Effects Of Copper Sources In Nursery Pig Diets And Phytase Inclusion And Diet Interactions On Water Usage In Growing And Finishing Pigs, Daniel Rosales
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In modern swine production, nutritional strategies that optimize growth performance, resource utilization, and carcass quality are essential. Three independent trials were conducted to evaluate how dietary modifications involving copper (Cu) sources, phytase inclusion, and amino acid reformulation affect nursery and grow-finish pigs. The first trial assessed the effects of three different Cu sources on nursery pig growth performance. A total of 1,145 pigs (5.9 ± 1.3 kg BW) were assigned to one of four dietary treatments: control, tri-basic Cu chloride source #1 (TBCC1), Cu chelate (cCu), or tri-basic Cu chloride source #2 (TBCC2), each providing 150 ppm of Cu. Over …
Optimizing Heifer Development On Dormant Rangelands By Integrating Precision Livestock Technologies With The Range Supplementation Model And The Evaluation Of Short-Term Rotations Of Precision Technology On Plant Communities, Hadley Ann Dotts
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Heifer development on dormant rangelands offers a cost-effective alternative to feedlot or drylot systems. However, traditional bunk supplementation methods often result in uneven intake, inefficient feed use, and ecological degradation around static feeding sites. This thesis evaluated the integration of precision livestock technologies and a dynamic Range Supplementation Model to improve individual animal performance, weight uniformity, and rangeland sustainability in extensive heifer development systems in the Northern Great Plains. The first study involved a seven-month trial (November 2023–May 2024) with 50 yearling Angus heifers grazing dormant native rangelands at the SDSU Cottonwood Field Station. Heifers were stratified into two treatments: …
Biotransformation Of Camelina Meal Via Pretreatment And Fermentation For Functional And Nutritional Upgrading, Ram Kumar Bhattarai
Biotransformation Of Camelina Meal Via Pretreatment And Fermentation For Functional And Nutritional Upgrading, Ram Kumar Bhattarai
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Camelina sativa, an oilseed crop of the Brassicaceae family, has seen increased cultivation in North America in response to the rising demand for biofuels over the past two decades. With this growth, camelina meal, a byproduct of oil extraction, has emerged as a promising yet underutilized resource, particularly for applications in animal nutrition. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of camelina meal as a substrate for submerged fungal fermentation and to examine how this bioconversion affects its physicochemical and nutritional properties. The influence of mild pretreatments (unwashed, washed only, and washed/dried and ground) on fermentation outcomes was also assessed. …
Acculturation, Self-Esteem, Family Norms, And Disordered Eating Behaviors In South Asian Women, Angela Abraham
Acculturation, Self-Esteem, Family Norms, And Disordered Eating Behaviors In South Asian Women, Angela Abraham
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
This study investigated the relationships among acculturation, self-esteem, family norms, and disordered eating behaviors among South Asian women living in the United States. Although research suggests culture plays a role in the etiology of eating disorders, little information on the experiences of South Asian women exists. This study sought to fill this gap in the literature. Using a cross-sectional, quantitative survey-based design, 151 South Asian women provided insight into their experiences with family norms, acculturation, self-esteem, and eating behaviors. Results indicated that acculturation was not significantly associated with disordered eating. However, self-esteem was found to be negatively associated with disordered …

Identifying Needs Of School-Age Children With Cardiospondylocarpofacial Syndrome, Erin Henning
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
Advancements in genetic testing have led to the identification of many rare genetic conditions, yet comprehensive knowledge of their broader impacts remains limited. Most existing research focuses narrowly on medical outcomes. Cardiospondylocarpofacial Syndrome (CSCF) is an ultra-rare genetic condition for which little is known beyond its physical manifestations. This descriptive case series study examined the behavioral, social, emotional, and academic functioning of eight school-aged children diagnosed with CSCF, as well as the experiences of their families. Participants were recruited from North America, Europe, and Australia via a private Facebook group. Data were collected through an open-ended, written questionnaire completed by …
(In)Animate: Exploring The Relationship Between Obsessivecompulsive Disorder, Perceived Thought Control, And Anthropomorphism, Kaitlyn O’Neill
(In)Animate: Exploring The Relationship Between Obsessivecompulsive Disorder, Perceived Thought Control, And Anthropomorphism, Kaitlyn O’Neill
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
Introduction: Ritual behaviors help manage uncertainty and anxiety by providing a sense of control, but rigid engagement in such behaviors can indicate obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD). Most OCD research has focused on harm-avoidance versus "not-just-right-experiences" (NJREs), with exposure and ritual prevention (ERP) being less effective for those without clear feared outcomes. Anthropomorphizing, or assigning human traits to objects, complicates OCD treatment, particularly for those with hoarding behaviors.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between OCD with and without hoarding behaviors ("saving" behavior) and anthropomorphism. Given ERP’s role in OCD treatment, understanding how anthropomorphism affects OCD is crucial. It was …

Predictors Of Anxiety And Depression In Dental Students - A Nationwide Study, Margaret Xiaojiao Yang
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
Student mental health is a growing concern in higher education, particularly within rigorous clinical training programs. This study estimated the prevalence of anxiety and depression among U.S. dental students and examined associations with resilience and perceived institutional and faculty support. A cross-sectional survey was administered to more than 1,100 full-time students at over 30 accredited dental schools. The instrument collected demographics, the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder–7 (GAD-7), the Patient Health Questionnaire–9 (PHQ-9), and four items assessing perceived support. Among respondents who completed the GAD-7 (n = 965), 43% scored ≥ 8, indicating probable generalized anxiety disorder. …
Target Cell-Associated Cd47 Suppresses Nadph Oxidase Activity In Macrophages During Antibody Dependent Cellular Phagocytosis, Seuly Akter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
CD47-SIRPα signaling is a well-known immune checkpoint that suppresses macrophage-mediated antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP). In this study, we explored how CD47 influences reactive oxygen species (ROS) production driven by Fcγ receptor (FcγR) signaling. Our results show that macrophages produce significantly more ROS when encountering IgG coated target cells lacking CD47.Polarization with IFNγ further amplified this effect. ThusCD47-SIRPα interactions limit phagocytosis and suppress oxidative ROS production by macrophages. We found that CD47 blockade and IFNγ stimulation enhanced ADCP through distinct mechanisms. CD47 blockade removed the inhibitory "don't eat me" signal supporting ADCP and ADROS. Similarly, IFNγ enhances ADCP by upregulating FcγRI …

Testing The Effect Of Source And Environment On Native Seed Germination To Inform Seed-Based Restoration Of Grasslands, Brandon Clark
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Grasslands are one of the most endangered ecosystems on the planet, and they provide a variety of important ecosystem services that people rely on. Losses of grasslands can be mitigated through restoration. Seed-based restoration is a regularly used practice due to its practicality and cost-effectiveness. Planting non-local seed that may not be suitable for its destination environment can have consequences in plant establishment and subsequent restoration success. This experiment tested the response (final germination and germination rate) of seed from 11 perennial tallgrass species sourced from 3 different locations to different germination temperature conditions. Seeds from three sources of each …
Examples Of Storytelling In Tan Dun’S The Banquet Piano Sonata, Ni Zhan
Examples Of Storytelling In Tan Dun’S The Banquet Piano Sonata, Ni Zhan
Theses and Dissertations--Music
The Banquet is a 2006 Chinese martial arts film directed by Feng Xiaogang. Chinese-American composer Tan Dun was invited to create the film's original soundtrack. In 2016, Tan adapted the music from the soundtrack into a four-movement piano sonata, also titled The Banquet, using melodies from the original film score. This document examines The Banquet Piano Sonata’s connection to the film’s narrative. It explores ways in which the storytelling of the film is used in the sonata; this is accomplished through three key aspects depicted in the music: culture, atmosphere, and inner emotions.

A Twenty-First Century Approach To Darius Milhaud's Saudades Do Brasil, Paige H. Crain
A Twenty-First Century Approach To Darius Milhaud's Saudades Do Brasil, Paige H. Crain
Theses and Dissertations--Music
French composer Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from February 1917 to November 1918. Milhaud’s experience in Rio was overwhelmingly positive, and several of his works were influenced by this period of his life, one being a suite for solo piano titled Saudades do Brasil, Op. 67. Inspired by Brazilian popular music, this piece is an example of exoticism, a trend of writing music based on cultures other than the composer’s own. Considering that exoticism historically has the potential to perpetuate harmful stereotypes or generate false information, this research delves into Saudades do Brasil, exploring …
The Richness Of Perception: Dynamic Visual Representations From Static Images, Kimberly Wong
The Richness Of Perception: Dynamic Visual Representations From Static Images, Kimberly Wong
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations
What is the purpose of visual perception? The most common explanations suggest that “seeing” is for answering the question ‘What’s out there?’ — giving us information about the features and objects in the current local environment. This dissertation, in contrast, suggests a different approach: seeing is also for answering the question ‘What’s happening?’ — and the related questions ‘What just Happened?’ and ‘What’s about to happen?’. The critical difference is that while the more common answer seems implicitly static, these newer answers are intrinsically dynamic. This dissertation proposes that visual processing represents even certain static images …

A Qualitative Study Exploring Best Practices And Applications Of Green, Eco, And Environmental Social Work In Canadian Social Work Practice, Ryley Kristanne Kowalski
Theses and Dissertations
Humanity and society are deeply connected to nature and the environment at their core. Through processes of colonization, the Industrial Revolution, urbanization, consumerism, and capitalism, people and societies have become increasingly disconnected from the natural environment. Introduced as a helping profession through the Industrial Revolution, social work began rooted in environment but quickly changed to understand human and societal wellbeing through the narrow scope of the social environment through the person-in-environment approach. Modern day issues of climate change, environmental degradation, environmental racism, and environmental justice movements have necessitated social work’s increased understanding of the natural environment. The purpose of this …

A Neutrosophic Set is a mathematical framework that represents degrees of truth, indeterminacy, and falsehood to address uncertainty in membership values [41, 42]. In contrast, a Plithogenic Set extends this concept by incorporating attributes, their possible values, and the corresponding degrees of appurtenance and contradiction [50]. Among the related concepts of Neutrosophic Sets, Neutrosophic Duplets and Neutrosophic Triplets are well-known. This paper defines Plithogenic Duplets and Plithogenic Triplets as extensions of these concepts using the Plithogenic Set framework and briefly examines their relationship with existing concepts.

This paper is a continuation of the work presented in [35]. The Neutrosophic Set provides a mathematical framework for managing uncertainty, characterized by three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Recent advancements have introduced extensions such as the Hyperneutrosophic Set and SuperHyperneutrosophic Set to address more complex and multidimensional challenges. In this study, we extend the Complex Neutrosophic Set, Single-Valued Triangular Neutrosophic Set, Fermatean Neutrosophic Set, and Linguistic Neutrosophic Set within the frameworks of Hyperneutrosophic Sets and SuperHyperneutrosophic Sets. Furthermore, we investigate their mathematical structures and analyze their connections with other set-theoretic concepts.

Philosophy, long defined by its pursuit of truth, has historically been a battleground for dichotomies: truth vs. falsehood, materialism vs. idealism, reason vs. emotion. These oppositions often provide a framework for understanding philosophical discourse, but they fail to capture the full nuances of reality. To challenge these binary oppositions, I introduced the neutrosophic perspective in philosophy, rooted in Mathematics, and Many-Valued Logics.1 By emphasizing the interrelation of affirmation, negation, and neutrality, neutrosophy allows for the reconciliation of seemingly irreconcilable viewpoints, providing a new lens through which to reinterpret age-old philosophical questions.

Revolutions are among the most transformative events in human history. Analyzing 395 revolutionary episodes from 1900 to 2014, we find that major waves cluster around solar maxima - periods of intensified geomagnetic activity. Drawing on biomedical research linking geomagnetic disturbances to cardiovascular and stress regulation, and thus to emotional states, we propose that solar cycles modulate the affective ecologies within which revolutions arise. Solar activity may accelerate, shape, and amplify revolutionary cycles by heightening emotional climates and tipping fragile systems toward mass mobilization. This reframes revolutions as planetary events - entanglements of political conflict, embodied emotion, and cosmic …

When we published our first environment and climate change dictionary in 2023 at IED (https://ecommons.aku.edu/books/117/), I was surprised by the response we received. Many people reached out to us to tell us how they hear these terms in their workplaces and how our dictionary helps them understand the words better. I wanted to make sure that we continue to add words to the dictionary in order to increase the understanding of others but also our own understanding of many terms we hear on a day-to-day basis. This year with the participants of “Introduction to Climate Change” course at FAS we …
