Do Patients Who Receive Dexmedetomidine As An Adjunct To Spinal Anesthesia For Cesarean Delivery Achieve Longer Block Duration Compared To Those Who Receive Spinal Anesthesia With Local Anesthetic Alone?, Liana S. Garrison
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Problem Statement: Cesarean delivery is associated with significant postoperative pain, typically managed with spinal anesthesia using a local anesthetic. While opioids are often added as adjuncts, the addition of dexmedetomidine, an alpha-2 agonist, has emerged as a potential alternative that may enhance the efficacy of the spinal block in terms of pain management, potentially improving block duration and quality compared to local anesthetic alone.
Methodology: A literature review was conducted on the use of dexmedetomidine as an adjunct to spinal anesthesia for patients undergoing cesarean sections. Databases used for the search included PubMed, CINAHL Complete, and MEDLINE. The keywords used …

Understanding And Assessing Conduct Disorder: A Literature Review, Garrett Holman
Understanding And Assessing Conduct Disorder: A Literature Review, Garrett Holman
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
In this literature review, the current understanding and assessment of conduct disorder will be examined with the intention of finding areas in need of future research. The importance of how conduct disorder develops with individuals, the comorbidities associated with the disorder, and the ways in which conduct disorder is assessed will be the focal point for this review. In particular, this review explores how the development of conduct disorder is connected with the long-term outcomes and the ways in which the interaction of co-occurring disorders can impact the course of this condition. Existing research on conduct disorder has gaps that …

On “Self” Care, Suzanne A. Kim
On “Self” Care, Suzanne A. Kim
Connecticut Law Review
The dominant answer to popular calls for self care in everyday discourse is a thriving eleven billion dollar industry. The self care economy encompasses workplace wellness programs, consumer goods and services, and entrepreneurship. This infrastructure revolves around commercial consumers and providers and advances through conceptions of health and well-being centered on individuals.
Despite their prevalence, the concept and provision of self care have gone underexamined in legal critiques of societal underinvestment in care. This Article fills this gap by exploring the social construction of the dominant contemporary conception of self care in the United States, one that continues to be …
Un-Fathering The Constitution, Lorianne Updike Toler
Un-Fathering The Constitution, Lorianne Updike Toler
Connecticut Law Review
Constitutional law turns on Madison’s vision. This because Madison is universally acclaimed by the Supreme Court and legal academe as the Constitution’s father. However, Madison’s constitutional parentage sounds more in lore than logic.
A careful review of recent historiography, Madison’s own writings, and new analytics tools available on the Quill Project reveal Madison as much less important to the Constitution than previously thought. He did not bring about the Convention, did not write the Virginia Plan, and was not that influential at the Constitutional Convention. Immediately after the Convention, Madison considered himself and the Constitution a failure, and disclaimed any …
Scènes À Faire: Cliché As Legislative Fact, Sarah Louise Bishop
Scènes À Faire: Cliché As Legislative Fact, Sarah Louise Bishop
Connecticut Law Review
In the last ten years, federal courts have quietly begun to apply copyright’s scènes à faire doctrine to dismiss infringement claims before party discovery has occurred. This move theoretically should not be possible, because applying the doctrine requires evidence of the conventions and tropes of the artistic genres at issue—something unlikely to be reflected in the parties’ pleadings.
This Article identifies this trend and explores the workarounds district courts use to achieve these dismissals without a factual record before them. The most common methods courts use are inconsistent with both the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence and risk …

The Influences Of Redox-Active Ligands On Nitrogen Reduction Catalysts, Alexander S. Hegg
The Influences Of Redox-Active Ligands On Nitrogen Reduction Catalysts, Alexander S. Hegg
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations
This thesis describes the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity towards N2 reduction of a number of group 6 and 7 transition metal complexes bearing redox-active ligands. Chapter 1 introduces the field of nitrogen fixation, the role of transition metal catalysts in mediating nitrogen reduction, and some of the challenges that potential catalysts must overcome. Chapter 2 describes a number of molybdenum porphyrin complexes that were viable catalysts for N2 reduction with samarium diiodide and alcohol. The reduction of the ligand facilitates chemical transformations at the metal with strong acids and leads to NH3 formation. Chapter 3 describes the effects of exchanging …
Structural Studies Of Cellular Prion Protein And Amyloid-B Oligomers, Lauren Klein
Structural Studies Of Cellular Prion Protein And Amyloid-B Oligomers, Lauren Klein
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations
Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease with significant societal impacts. AD is the only top ten leading cause of death that cannot be prevented, cured, slowed, or even diagnosed before symptoms are present. AD, similar to other neurodegenerative diseases, has been linked to protein aggregation as the key factor in the disease pathology. However, the mechanism by which AD proliferates is poorly understood. Recent advancements in techniques and methods in structural biology, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron microscopy (EM), have opened a new era of studies into protein aggregates implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, including AD. Therefore, this …

Utah People And Environment Poll 2024/25 Executive Report, Alex Theophilus, Jessica D. Ulrich-Schad
Utah People and Environment Poll (UPEP)
Utah's people and environment are currently experiencing significant changes as the population continues to grow, droughts and flooding pose threats to agriculture, air quality leads to health concerns, energy needs rise, and public lands see increased use. Action is needed to address these changes, especially given how rapidly they are occurring. Political leaders, environmental organizations, Tribal Nations, and universities play a critical role in ensuring Utah’s environment, economy, workforce, and underserved communities have a sustainable path forward. Understanding residents’ views, values, and concerns can help better craft the policy, inform infrastructure, and identify the services needed to do so. With …

Law Librarian Scholarship
The Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT) vocabulary is among the most prominent genre vocabularies used in library cataloging. To investigate how the current application of LCGFT affects users’ genre access, we gathered data from library patrons, library staff, and parties involved in genre creation and use. The results demonstrate that patrons actively seek out genre materials in libraries, often via library catalogs, and that LCGFT has room for growth and expansion that might enhance patrons’ search experience.
Evaluating Ancient Volcanic Disaster In The Río Grande De Chone, Manabí, Ecuador, Corey Alexander Herrmann
Evaluating Ancient Volcanic Disaster In The Río Grande De Chone, Manabí, Ecuador, Corey Alexander Herrmann
Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations
Across the world, disasters are increasing in their frequency and in their intensity. This is due to a confluence of factors social (like modern development and population growth) and “natural” (such as the inputs of anthropogenic climate change). Social scientists in anthropology are pursuing the field of disaster anthropology to explore these shifting trends and investigate the human response to disasters today. Archaeologists, in turn, have focused instead on exploring disaster more concretely through identifying exposure to particular hazards, leaving deeper questions of the social character behind disaster processes relatively undertheorized.
Archaeologists working in South America have been quite attuned …
