Hospital Location, Socioeconomic Factors, And Obesity Impact On Patient Readmission Rates 30 Days Post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, Mazalo Looky
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is associated with a high rate of readmissions within 30 days after discharge. Patient variables such as obesity and socioeconomic status (SES) are modifiable, whereas hospital factors such as location indicate the need for a better regional needs assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of hospital location, SES, and obesity (independent variables) on the 30-day readmission rate post-CABG (dependent variable) among US patients. Secondary data sets available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Society of Thoracic Surgery websites were analyzed to assess the impact of location, …

Background: Oncolytic adenoviruses (OAds) are the most clinically tested viral vectors for solid tumors. However, most clinically tested "Armed" OAds show limited antitumor effects in patients with various solid tumors even with increased dosages and multiple injections. We developed a binary oncolytic/helper-dependent adenovirus system (CAdVEC), in which tumors are coinfected with an OAd and a non-replicating helper-dependent Ad (HDAd). We recently demonstrated that a single low-dose CAdVEC expressing interleukin-12, programmed death-ligand 1 blocker, and HSV thymidine kinase safety switch (CAdTrio) induces significant antitumor effects in patients, including complete response. Similar to previous OAd studies, all patients primarily amplified Ad-specific T …
Understanding The Current Provisions Of Support For People With An Intellectual Disabilities And/Or Autism In Crisis: A Mixed Methods Study, Rohit Shankar

Long-Term Adverse Effects After Electroconvulsive Therapy (Ect): A Narrative Analysis Exploring People’S Experiences, Meaning-Making, And Coping, Emily Shipwright, David Murphy
School of Psychology
Approximately 2500 people receive electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) annually in the United Kingdom; however, there is growing evidence of long-term adverse effects. Few studies have focused on people’s experience of ECT, particularly over the long term. The experience of ECT is known to be complex, requiring qualitative exploration. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the long-term adverse experiences of ECT, including psychological impacts, meaning-making, and coping. Narrative analysis considered thematic, structural, and performative elements of seven people’s stories. Themes were explored across the timeline of participants’ experiences. Before ECT, participants felt misinformed regarding ECT and misunderstood by healthcare professionals. They noticed …

Agronomic Biofortification Of Calcium In Pak Choy (Brassica Rapa Subsp. Chinensis) Via Hydroponic Nutrient Film Technique, Regina Septiani Zahro, Khavid Faozi, Zulfa Ulinnuha, Agus Sarjito
Jurnal Kultivasi
Pak choy is rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamin K, all essential for health. Pak choy requires a proper balance of nutrients for optimal growth. In a hydroponic system, any imbalance in nutrient levels can negatively impact plant growth and reduce the nutritional value stored in the tissues. Selecting suitable varieties and providing appropriate calcium treatment can help increase calcium content and enhance productivity. This study aims to determine the effect of calcium concentration on growth, yield, and Ca content and the most responsive varieties to increased calcium concentration. The research design used was a Split Plot Design …

We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and radiologic findings in 17 children with an aberrant cisternal cranial nerve 7 (CN7), and found that these patients had additional anomalies involving other pontine cranial nerves (CNs). The hallmark imaging feature identified in all patients was an aberrant cisternal segment of an enlarged-appearing CN7. The abnormal nerve coursed anteriorly toward the Gasserian ganglion, where it fanned out toward the internal auditory canal, Meckel cave, or both. This finding was accompanied by a small cisternal CN5, which often had a lateral bowed appearance. CN5 and CN7 were abnormally close to each other. Meckel's cave appeared …

In this licensee holdover proceeding, the court dismissed the petition and found that the tenant, the son of the deceased tenant of record, had proven his entitlement to succeed to the rent-stabilized tenancy. The court found that the tenant's documentary evidence and testimony, including bank statements, utility bills, and identification documents, outweighed the landlord's testimony that he had never observed the tenant residing in the apartment. The court also rejected the landlord's argument that the tenant's omission from the deceased tenant's SCRIE application precluded his succession claim.

Development Of A Stable And Buffered Reference Electrode For Binary Molten Chlorides Salts, Carlos Mejia, Nicholas Christensen, Ricardo Rodriguez Ceron, Devin Rappleye
Faculty Publications
The development of stable and buffered reference electrodes (REs) is crucial for molten salt electrochemistry, particularly in pyrochemical processing, such as electrorefining. These REs must maintain a stable potential to ensure precise control over electrorefining processes by preventing unwanted shifts in the potential that could lead to impurity deposition. This study evaluated metal chlorides and metal oxides as potential candidates for REs, with their stability assessed via electrochemical methods over extended durations. While metal chloride-based REs exhibited stable potential behavior over time, their response followed the Nernst equation, leading to potential shifts with varying concentrations of oxidized species. Metal oxide-based …

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
Cybersecurity is a critical aspect for the energy industry to defend against cyber attacks. However, justifying the costs of cybersecurity measures is essential. A cost-benefit analysis (CBA) is commonly used to support decision-making for risk mitigation, helping to identify strategies that optimally balance mitigation costs and risk reduction. In this survey, we analyse existing approaches and provide a taxonomic overview of methods for cyber risk mitigation cost-benefit analysis, focusing on key aspects that determine their applicability to energy systems. The survey includes both general and contextual works, employing various methodologies for CBA, whether analytical or criteria-based. We conclude with an …

Understanding the factors influencing successful engagement with Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs) remains a significant challenge. This understanding could be used to personalise agents to users to improve interactions. Some studies have shown that simulating personalities in healthcare agents can improve effectiveness and engagement. However, it is not yet well understood how variations of agent personality can be leveraged to improve user engagement with Motivational Interviewing (MI) ECAs. Specifically how the balance between agent warmth and directness can be controlled in an MI agent to improve likeability and engagement. We conducted an online Wizard-of-Oz (WoZ) mediated study of two variants of …

Accelerating Shock-Driven Reactions In Metal Nanocomposites, Siva Kumar Valluri, Edward L. Dreizin, Dana D. Dlott
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Metal powders are sought as energetic additives to conventional explosives. However, due to their sluggish reaction kinetics with external gaseous oxidizers, pure metals are replaced with metallic composites with intimately mixed condensed phase oxidizers prepared by arrested reactive milling (ARM). Such composites can be initiated by non-thermal, mechanical means; through shear mixing of fuel and oxidizer under a shock compressive load. Since the ARM preparatory technique allows for tuning multiple powder attributes such as fuel/oxidizer of interest, their degree of mixing, amount of oxidizer, particle porosity, among others, a parametric study is crucial in identifying suitable traits for fast reactions …

Hyperspectral Imaging For Temperature Measurements Of Hot Spots In Shocked Plastic-Bonded Explosives, Dhanalakshmi Sellan, Siva Kumar Valluri, Dana D. Dlott
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Hot spots are formed when energetic microstructures are shocked, and they play a critical role in shock sensitivity. It is important to know both the time-dependent size and temperature of the hot spots, in order to generate a kinetic model to describe reaction growth in plastic-bonded explosives (PBX). Here we use a recently developed technique where PBX is fabricated in the form of a thin wafer, embedded within a transparent polymer binder, and shocked with a laser-launched flyer plate that produces pressures of about 30 GPa range. In this method, every crystal of the cyclotetramethylene-tetranitramine (HMX)-based PBX can be observed …

Our study supports using older naturally grown sagebrush plants (wildlings) for restoration efforts. Wildlings had already faced various environmental stresses before transplantation and then had a survival advantage when transplanted. Our study also demonstrates how successfully established transplants planted in “islands” aid in the future recruitment of sagebrush. Overall, because of their higher survival, we found that wildlings led to higher sagebrush densities and were a more cost-effective approach.
