Effects Of Turbulence On Scramjet Engines Combustion, Mohamed En-Nali Dec 2024

Effects Of Turbulence On Scramjet Engines Combustion, Mohamed En-Nali

Theses and Dissertations

In the present work, we aim to investigate the predictive capabilities of low and high-fidelity turbulence models and understand how they perform in complex conditions in a scramjet engine. In this study, we use the DLR experiments to present a comparative performance assessment of low to high fidelity turbulence models. The DLR case is interesting since it exhibits turbulence due to wall effects as well as due to shear layer. Results show relatively good agreement when compared against the validation data set from the experiment. DHRL was able to resolve more turbulence structures compared to all other models. HRL showed …

This was a retrospective, observational study conducted in a tertiary care hospital, Karnataka, India. Case record of all patients aged ≥18 years with COVID-19 disease admitted to the COVID-19 ICU during March 2021 to July 2021 and treated with two drugs at least were included. A total of …

Elementary Teachers’ Knowledge And Application Of Formative Assessment To Improve Instruction, Judy Charles

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Many students at the Valley View Primary School (pseudonym) in the Caribbean are not performing according to numeracy and literacy standards on national tests. Administration and teachers wanted to know why changes to formative assessment practices are not increasing students’ achievement levels. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory case study was to examine teachers’ perspectives regarding the importance of formative assessments relating to their instructional practices and knowledge of formative assessments in this primary school. The study was guided by Xu and Brown’s teacher assessment literacy in practice (TALiP). Nine participants were purposefully sampled. Research questions helped guide exploration regarding …

Fictional And Historical Narratives Of African American Soldiers Of Wwii, Abigail Rae Stewart Dec 2024

Fictional And Historical Narratives Of African American Soldiers Of Wwii, Abigail Rae Stewart

Honors Theses

This thesis examines the experiences of African American soldiers during World War II through the dual lenses of oral histories and fictionalized accounts, arguing that both are essential to fully understanding their multifaceted journeys at home and abroad. Oral histories provide direct, personal narratives from veterans themselves, capturing their voices, emotions, and reflections on the discrimination, camaraderie, and resilience that defined their wartime and postwar lives. These firsthand accounts offer invaluable insights into the structural realities of systemic racism within the military and society, as well as the personal sacrifices these soldiers made in the name of a country that …

Sustainability Of Food Prescription Programs In Rural Mississippi, Eve Davis

Honors Theses

Food prescription programs are an innovative strategy to address food insecurity and to promote health as a preventative measure, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Mississippi has high rates of chronic diseases relating to nutrition, poverty, and limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Throughout this research, I have analyzed program funding and sustainability mechanisms such as community investment, nutrition education, and awareness. The preliminary research has identified the need for collaboration between healthcare providers, local farmers, nonprofit organizations, and government officials. I interviewed various individuals that could become potential stakeholders for food prescription programs, such as individuals from nonprofit …

Big Tech To Utilize Nuclear Reactors For Powering Data Center Expansion And Fighting Climate Change, Raymond Depaul

Capstones

Amazon is advancing its goal for carbon-free energy by investing in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) through partnerships with X-energy, Energy Northwest, and Dominion Energy. These compact nuclear reactors will provide clean energy to power Amazon’s data centers and other operations, with expected benefits for energy resilience and community jobs. The SMR projects will add substantial power capacity to regions like the Pacific Northwest and Virginia, supporting Amazon’s target of net-zero carbon operations by 2040. The current project looks into the adverse effects these agreement may have on the environment, and how big tech companies' historical environmental interactions may come into …

Eleven Are The Stars Of Joseph’S Dream; His Coat, Many Colors, Alexander B. Bloom

Capstones

At the Conservative synagogue where I attended Saturday school for part of my childhood in the 90s I recall the teachers’ reimagination of the popular Michael Jackson song “We Are the World,” taught to the seven and eight year-olds who were made to sing it in chorus at some holiday celebration that year.

“We are the Jews,” we bleated out, in concert, “We are the Chosen.”

From my place among them I remember the unsettled feeling I had, to consider my non-Jewish friends at school, teachers and babysitters who knew not of tefillin, my maternal grandparents in the pews of …

Do Clothes Make The Feminist?, Jiana N. Smith

Capstones

In September 2024, New York fashion brand Sandy Liang faced backlash online for its girlish style codes as part of a broader debate about trends that reinforced gender stereotypes, like tradwives, “girl dinner” and the coquette aesthetic. However, critics misjudge the brand, which is grounded not in internet trends but in the designer’s real-world experiences. In addition, thanks to the complex fashion landscape, no garment is inherently political but dependent on the wearer’s intentions and styling choices.

The Evidence Is In: Breast Implants Are Making People Sick Increasingly Women Find When They Have Their Implants Removed, Their Symptoms Improve—Or Disappear., Pamela J. Appea

Over the years, breast implants have been associated with a wide range of health issues, including cancer and autoimmune diseases, but surprisingly these issues are not well known to the public. In 1992, health concerns led the FDA to halt the use of silicone gel breast implants for cosmetic surgeries, although implants containing saline remained available (it was during this period that the Oprah segment that Gmitro remembered ran on TV). In 2006, after more research, which some experts believe was insufficient, the FDA re-approved the use of silicone implants. In 2019, a novel “textured” breast implant manufactured …

Wherever it rains, it can flood. More inland homeowners who never expected to see their homes flood are finding themselves inundated by rain as climate change intensifies extreme storms and weather patterns. Many homeowners decide to buy homes not realizing that flooding isn’t limited to coastal areas, so they forego flood insurance coverage, leaving their biggest asset at risk.
