Optical Response Of Pdms Surface Diffraction Gratings Under Exposure To Volatile Organic Compounds, Aleksandra Hernik, Faolan Radford Mcgovern, Izabela Naydenova Jan 2024

Optical Response Of Pdms Surface Diffraction Gratings Under Exposure To Volatile Organic Compounds, Aleksandra Hernik, Faolan Radford Mcgovern, Izabela Naydenova

Articles

Monitoring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in indoor air is significantly gaining importance due to their adverse effects on human health. Among the diverse detection methods is optical sensing, which employs materials sensitive to the presence of gases in the environment. In this work, we investigate polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), one of the materials utilized for gas sensing, in a novel transducer: a surface relief diffraction grating. Upon adsorption of the volatile analyte, the PDMS grating swells, and its refractive index changes; both effects lead to increased diffraction efficiency in the first diffraction order. Hence, the possibility of VOC detection emerges from the …

Comprehensive Review And Development Of A High-Pressure Hydraulic Impedance Tube For Vibroacoustic Attenuator Characterization, Matthew D. Beals Jan 2024

Comprehensive Review And Development Of A High-Pressure Hydraulic Impedance Tube For Vibroacoustic Attenuator Characterization, Matthew D. Beals

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

This research establishes a versatile test bench for characterizing hydraulic vibroacoustic attenuators. The primary evaluation metric is the transfer matrix, determined experimentally, with an emphasis on key properties such as transmission loss. To ensure accuracy and broad applicability, the methodology is based on industry-standard techniques for determining the transfer matrix. A comprehensive literature review consolidates existing approaches for hydraulic attenuator characterization. The test bench features a hydraulic impedance tube equipped with eight dynamic pressure transducer (DPT) taps strategically positioned before and after the sample interface. This setup accommodates arbitrary samples terminated with standard hydraulic fittings. Using ASTM E2611, the transfer …

Sediment Carbon Storage In Subtidal Beds Of The Invasive Seagrass Halophila Stipulacea Along An Extreme Water Depth Gradient, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Demian A. Willette, Kelsey M. Vaughn, Allie Durdall, Marilyn Brandt, Sophia Costa, Kristin Wilson Grimes Jan 2024

Sediment Carbon Storage In Subtidal Beds Of The Invasive Seagrass Halophila Stipulacea Along An Extreme Water Depth Gradient, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Demian A. Willette, Kelsey M. Vaughn, Allie Durdall, Marilyn Brandt, Sophia Costa, Kristin Wilson Grimes

Biology Faculty Works

Blue carbon ecosystems such as mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrass beds are found globally and are fundamental to fisheries production, storm surge protection, and carbon sequestration. The contribution of seagrass ecosystems to global carbon stocks is still not well understood, including in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). No study has been published to-date assessing the sediment carbon density (SCD) in seagrass beds in the USVI. This study focused on the carbon storage ability of the invasive species, Halophila stipulacea, which is compact in size compared to common native seagrasses and has spread rapidly to become a dominant seagrass in …

On The Structure Of Repeated-Root Polycyclic Codes Over Local Rings, Maryam Bajalan, Edgar Martinez-Moro, Reza Sobhani, Steve Szabo, Guelsuem Goezde Yilmazguc Jan 2024

On The Structure Of Repeated-Root Polycyclic Codes Over Local Rings, Maryam Bajalan, Edgar Martinez-Moro, Reza Sobhani, Steve Szabo, Guelsuem Goezde Yilmazguc

EKU Faculty and Staff Scholarship

This paper provides the Generalized Mattson Solomon polynomial for repeated-root polycyclic codes over local rings that gives an explicit decomposition of them in terms of idempotents. It also states some structural properties of repeated-root polycyclic codes over finite fields in terms of matrix product codes. Both approaches provide a description of the perpendicular to 0-dual code for a given polycyclic code. (c) 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Social And Political Factors In A Model Of Economic Development And Distribution: An Application To The Philippines, Delano S. Villanueva Jan 2024

Social And Political Factors In A Model Of Economic Development And Distribution: An Application To The Philippines, Delano S. Villanueva

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This quantitative historical paper presents a model of endogenous economic growth and distribution explicitly incorporating social extraction and political competition, with application to the Philippine experience. The model is tested and simulated using institutional information and historical data. The major objective is to explain developments in the distribution of national income and wealth and in the growth rate of per capita national income. When calibrated, the model is found to be consistent with the broad contours of Philippine macroeconomic history. The study concludes with several policy implications for a successful strategy of economic development.

Facebook Marketplace: The Mediating Effect Of Perceived Quality To Image Quality And Purchase Intention, Tyron W. Yap Jan 2024

Facebook Marketplace: The Mediating Effect Of Perceived Quality To Image Quality And Purchase Intention, Tyron W. Yap

DLSU Business & Economics Review

With the limitations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, marketers and sellers have shifted to using online platforms to market and sell their products. Thus, the objective of this study is to test the influence of the quality of food images used online on the perceived quality of the food product and on customers’ intent to purchase. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test four hypotheses. Results suggest that food image quality significantly influences perceived value, perceived value significantly influences purchase intention, and food image quality significantly influences purchase intention. Further, it was revealed that perceived quality …
