Alf Engen (1909-1997) immigrated to the U.S. from Mjondalen Norway in 1929,becoming the country’s best ski jumper and Four-Way competitor in the 1930s and 1940s. Alf was the oldest of the remarkable Engen family, that included his brothers Sverre and Karre(Corey). Alf was one of the pioneers who led the transition from Nordic events that dominated skiing in the early years, to alpine skiing in the latter part of the 1930s, along with Birger and Sigmund Ruud, Roy Mikkelsen, Hjalmar Hvam and others

Book V of the Mathematical Collection is addressed to a certain Megethion, about whom we know nothing else. From the context he may have been a student or patron of Pappus in Alexandria. In a heading at the start, Pappus says that the general theme will be comparisons between different geometric figures. The overall structure brings interesting relations and connections to the fore. The book opens with a very well-known and charming discussion of how the importance of such comparisons can be seen by considering the structures built by non-human creatures such as bees. …

Selama satu dekade ke belakang, terdapat dua sorotan isu strategis yang menghinggapi kemaritiman Indonesia: transformasi doktrin maritim dan kebimbangan perilaku strategisnya dalam tata kelola Laut Cina Selatan (LCS). Pada isu pertama, Indonesia tengah berada dalam proses perubahan doktrin strategis dari Wawasan Nusantara (Wasantara) menuju Poros Maritim Dunia (PMD). Sementara pada isu kedua, dinamika doktrin strategis tersebut diikuti oleh ambivalensi perilaku Indonesia dalam penanganan ancaman di LCS. Since Odysseus’ first appearance in Homer’s epics, he has been featured in a wide variety of works across history. In the hands of Sophocles, Virgil, Dante Alighieri, William Shakespeare, and Jorge Rivera-Herrans, he has acted as both protagonist and antagonist. However, Odysseus remains the same ingenious and deceptive warrior king of Ithaca throughout every work. While Odysseus’ identity remains largely the same since his creation, the shifting societal values change the role in which he plays in each subsequent story. Civilian military activism is a challenge that U.S. policymakers have struggled with since the Founding. The United States’ first answer to this issue was the Neutrality Act of 1794, which embodied the young nation’s rejection of private violence and fear of being dragged into international conflicts by overzealous citizens. For decades, the Neutrality Act remained an important tool in the government’s repertoire and was amended to close newfound loopholes and respond to evolving technologies. Akko III: The Late Periods comprises two parts (IAA Reports 72 and 73), the third and fourth volumes in a series publishing the results of four excavations that took place within and just outside of the Old City of ‘Akko between 1991 and 1998. The Critically Endangered white-bellied heron Ardea insignis is a large-bodied, range-restricted, piscivorous bird of the Himalayan mountains. With fewer than 60 individuals remaining globally, regular monitoring is required for this rare species. We present the results of surveys during 2017 and 2023-2024 in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The encounter rate of white-bellied herons in 2017 was 0.55 individuals per km of river, but we did not detect the bird during intensive surveys in the same location during 2023-2024. The surveyed area within the Reserve was once a stronghold for the species, but its population appears to be declining. …

The borrowing of foreign lexicon in Indonesian is well documented. However, to date, research on Korean loanwords has remained unavailable. Against the backdrop of the Korean Wave (hallyu), this paper discusses the phonological adaptation of Korean loanwords in Indonesian and the way these loanwords contribute to the Indonesian lexical landscape. By collecting data on Korean culture from a selection of Instagram and Twitter (now X) accounts from the Indonesian community, our corpus shows that besides nouns, Korean loanwords also include adjectives and verbs. We identified 52 loanwords related to the domain of popular culture, including film, music, and …

This entry covers the origins of the word plagiarism, how it differentiates from common knowledge and copyright, and defines different types of plagiarism. It addresses how perceptions of plagiarism have changed over time, variations in how different cultures view plagiarism, and how technological advances have led to increases in plagiarism. One section focuses on plagiarism and academic integrity, providing examples of incidents and their consequences, as well as non-academic examples. The purpose of this project was to examine the result that a career fair could have on the self-determination of the student members of the Tribe.

Problem: The problem is that there is a lack of diversity among the health care personnel at Tribal hospitals which is contributing to poorer health outcomes.

Intervention: This project utilized Self-Determination Theory to guide the process for practice improvement with the student members of the Tribe using an interventional career fair called Dream Day.

Abstract: In April 2024, Biden Administration officials revealed that in the year 2023, about 90% of Russia’s microelectronics came from China, which Russia has used to make missiles, tanks, and aircraft. This quasi-experimental study explores the effectiveness of using a video game as a text in high school narrative instruction, testing Lave and Wenger’s (1991) situated learning theory, which posits that learning is a by-product of social interaction. Gĩkũyũ and settler colonist women’s life histories were analyzed using textual analysis of first-person accounts to understand the ideologies behind women’s perceptions of land, place, and human-environment relationships, and to fill a gap in the literature on women in central Kenya. Earlier studies have focused on social relations between Gĩkũyũ and colonists, social issues affecting these groups, or land as an important, but nongendered construct. Our major finding was that the women’s understandings of humanenvironment relations and place reflected gender awareness, but overall were consistent with the dominant ideologies of men from their cultural background and time.
