Do improved women’s descriptive representation in legislative branches and women’s participation in civil society decrease the intensity of civil conflicts? Is the impact of women’s presence in legislative branches on the conflict intensity magnified by women’s participation in civil society, and vice versa? In this study, we aim to expand the constructivist argument that equal gender roles in politics and civil society can bring about less intensive internal armed conflicts. Targeting dysregulated protease expression and/or abnormal substrate proteolysis, highly selective inhibition of pathogenic proteases by monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) presents an attractive therapeutic approach for the treatment of diseases including cancer. Herein, we report a functional selection method for protease inhibitory mAbs by periplasmic co-expression of three recombinant proteins-a protease of interest, an antibody Fab library, and a modified β-lactamase TEM-1. We validate this approach by isolation of highly selective and potent mAbs inhibiting human matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9).

Augustine of Hippo’s Privatio Boni concept—the idea that evil is not a substance, but the privation of good in a substance—is the most influential early systematic theodical attempt within Christianity to exculpate a good God from responsibility for evil. Suicide is a significant public health concern across the world. It is the second leading cause of death for children and young adults ages 10-34 (CDC, 2016). In 2021, suicide rates were highest among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) persons, and AI/AN youths had the highest rates of suicide compared to their same-aged peers from other racial and ethnic groups (Stone, Mack, & Qualters, 2021). Botulism is an uncommon but serious neurological condition caused by the botulinum toxin produced by the gram-positive bacterium named Clostridium botulinum. Common symptoms of botulism include muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty swallowing, respiratory failure, muscle weakness, and potentially death. Currently, two types of antitoxin are used: equine-derived heptavalent antitoxin and human-derived immunoglobulin (BabyBIG®). However, treatment with heptavalent antitoxin may lead to hypersensitivity reactions, while BabyBIG®, which is produced in low yield, is used only for children. การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาประสิทธิภาพการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายด้านการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมป้องกันประเทศ ของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศ 2) เพื่อศึกษาปัญหาอุปสรรคในการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายและนำผลการศึกษาไปจัดทำเป็นข้อเสนอแนะแนวทางในการเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการดำเนินงานของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศ สำหรับงานวิจัยฉบับนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ดำเนินการวิจัยด้วยวิธีการศึกษาข้อมูลทางเอกสารและเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลด้วยการสัมภาษณ์ผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างจำนวน 10 คน ประกอบด้วย ผู้บังคับบัญชาระดับสูงจากกระทรวงกลาโหม ผู้บริหารและเจ้าหน้าที่จากสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศ ผู้แทนจากสำนักงานคณะกรรมการพัฒนาระบบราชการ (ก.พ.ร.) และผู้แทนจากบริษัทร่วมทุน โดยผู้วิจัยได้นำแนวคิดทฤษฎีการวัดผลการดำเนินงานแบบดุลยภาพ (Balanced Scorecard หรือ BSC) มาใช้เป็นกรอบแนวความคิดเพื่อวิเคราะห์ประสิทธิภาพการดำเนินงานของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศ ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่าประสิทธิภาพการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายด้านการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมป้องกันประเทศ ของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศจากมุมมองการวัดผลประสิทธิภาพทั้ง 4 มิติ ตามแนวคิด BSC พบว่าในมิติด้านการบรรลุเป้าหมายองค์กรมีประสิทธิภาพดีเป็นไปตามตัวชี้วัดของ ก.พ.ร. และค่าเป้าหมายขององค์กร ส่วนมิติด้านคุณภาพการให้บริการประสิทธิภาพด้านผลสำเร็จของงานดี แต่ต้องปรับปรุงประสิทธิภาพในการให้บริการเนื่องจากมีกระบวนการขั้นตอนให้บริการที่มีความล่าช้าและยึดติดรูปแบบระบบการทำงานแบบราชการซึ่งขัดกับรูปแบบการดำเนินงานขององค์การมหาชน โดยต้องลดกระบวนงานขั้นตอน ปรับกฏหมายให้เอื้อประโยชน์ให้การดำเนินงานมีความรวดเร็วเพื่อไม่ให้เกิดการเสียประโยชน์ทางด้านธุรกิจจากกระบวนการจัดตั้งบริษัทร่วมทุน ที่ต้องใช้เวลานาน ส่วนมิติด้านกระบวนการภายในองค์กรและมิติด้านการพัฒนาองค์กรสู่ความเป็นเลิศพบว่าประสิทธิภาพด้านการพัฒนาองค์กรดี แต่ควรปรับปรุงด้านกระบวนการทำงานและพัฒนาทักษะของบุคลากรรวมถึงต้องปรับสภาพแวดล้อมของการทำงานการสร้างความตระหนักรับรู้และสร้างความเข้าใจของเจ้าหน้าที่ของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศให้มีความเข้าใจในวิสัยทัศน์ขององค์กร และมีการเปิดกว้างในการทำงานร่วมกันเป็นทีมทั้งภายในและภายนอกองค์กร เพื่อเป็นรากฐานสำคัญในการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศอย่างเป็นระบบ ปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายด้านการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมป้องกันประเทศของสถาบันเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศพบว่า กฏหมาย ระเบียบ คำสั่ง ข้อบังคับ ไม่รองรับกับการพัฒนาด้านอุตสาหกรรมป้องกันประเทศ ระเบียบของหน่วยงานมีความซ้ำซ้อนไม่มีการทำงานประสานกันทั้งระบบ รวมถึงความไม่ชัดเจนในมาตรการการดำเนินงานตามนโยบายของรัฐบาล ตลอดจนกองทัพไม่ให้การสนับสนุนการจัดซื้ออาวุธยุทโธปกรณ์ที่ผลิตภายในประเทศ และการถูกจำกัดงบประมาณด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศ ซึ่งส่งผลให้ไม่สามารถพัฒนาบุคลากรที่มีความรู้ความสามารถด้านการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีป้องกันประเทศได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

Crop damage attributed to pest birds is an important problem, particularly in low-income countries. This paper describes a prototype system for pest bird detection using a Conv1D neural network model followed by scaring actions to reduce the presence of pest birds on farms. Acoustic recorders were deployed on farms for data collection, supplemented by acoustic libraries. The sounds of pest bird species were identified and labeled. The labeled data were used in Edge Impulse to train a tinyML Conv1D model to detect birds of interest. The model was deployed on Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense (nodes) and XIAO (Base station) …

UAVs are becoming a crucial tool in modern warfare, primarily due to their cost-effectiveness, risk reduction, and ability to perform a wider range of activities. The use of autonomous UAVs to conduct strike missions against highly valuable targets is the focus of this research. Due to developments in ledger technology, smart contracts, and machine learning, such activities formerly carried out by professionals or remotely flown UAVs are now feasible. Special Forces (SF) soldiers are the most elite element of military forces, who have undergone rigorous training in order to prepare them for a wide array of specialised missions. In Australia, entry into the SF is determined through the highly competitive SF Selection Course (SF-SC), which is a gruelling program involving extreme physical demands, psychological stress, and restricted access to sleep and nutrition. This embedded quasi-experimental research design examined the impact of an enrichment initiative entitled the Mathematics Enhancement Programme (MEP) on Jamaican students’ performance and attitude towards mathematics. It identified teaching strategies for integrating the MEP into Jamaican primary mathematics classes. It investigated the impact of the MEP on teachers’ pedagogical practices, and it identified the barriers to integrating the MEP. A sample of 331 students and 12 teachers were conveniently selected from three schools from three parishes in Jamaica for the intervention group. The comparison group consisted of 180 students and seven teachers conveniently selected from two schools in central Jamaica. …

The French Foreign Legion, part of the July Monarchy’s 1831 expansion of the Army of Africa, sought to create a non-French force entirely deployable outside of the metropole. The creation of the expatriate corps intended to solve two of France’s most pressing problems at the time: an excess of foreign migrants at home, and a dearth of French soldiers abroad. The Paris government hoped to attract recruits from its considerable non-national male population, particularly political exiles and migrant workers fleeing Europe’s 1830 revolutionary wave. This paper delves into the legal accountability and historical narrative, which go hand in hand, surrounding the comfort women system implemented by the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII. These women, including my late grandmother from South Korea, were forced into sexual slavery, servicing Japanese soldiers across the Asia-Pacific. Despite being one of the most significant atrocities in history, with victims from 10 countries and between 20,000 to 500,000 individuals, the plight of comfort women remains relatively unheard of.

Cultural property limits the normal prerogatives of owners in order to give legal substance to the interests of the public or of specially protected non-owners. This thesis utilizes the works of Judith Butler, Simone de Beauvoir, Frederic Jameson, and Edward Said in a discourse analysis of influencers and writers in the right wing "manosphere." The figures analyzed herein are Andrew Tate and Matt Walsh. Their rhetoric aims to create a discursive woman who embodies traditional notions of gender and sex that de Beauvoir critiqued in 1949. The constant adherence and reference to a mythical past exhibits ways of thinking that coincide perfectly with Jameson's own theoretical work with the term and its inherent false nostalgia. Under the classic paradigm of international environmental law articulated in the 1941 Trail Smelter arbitration decision, States are responsible for downstream or downwind harm that crosses from their territory into another State. But climate change threatens not just neighboring States but the entire global commons. This Article explores whether the conditions are ripe for a “Grotian Moment”—a paradigm shifting development leading to accelerated formation of customary international law related to the human right to a healthy environment.
