Training Strategies To Mitigate Residential Youth Care Employee Turnover And Increase Care Quality, Fatima Sylvertooth

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

High employee turnover in residential youth care facilities has the potential to decrease the accomplishment of the facilities’ organizational goals. Business owners are concerned with employee intent to leave, as it is the number-one predictor of employee turnover. Grounded in job embeddedness theory, this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was conducted to explore training strategies some residential facility leaders use to mitigate employee turnover and increase care quality. The study participants were eight residential youth care leaders in the state of Michigan who use successful strategies to mitigate employee turnover in residential youth care facilities. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. Through …

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia Sep 2024

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia

Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal

In today’s society, the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is imminent yet, large segments of the world remain marginalized. I contend that peer-to-peer and inter-institutional networks can be used to connect local with global systems to close this divide. Using today’s virtual and digital technologies the gap can be bridged using collaboration platforms using different knowledge systems that do not simply replicate the same information. The suggested model represents forming strategic alliances for information sharing and collaboration to empower and support local knowledge systems. The examples discussed show our efforts toward an inclusive approach with communities in full partnership, …

These methods not only have healing properties but also reflect deeply rooted cultural practices designed for holistic well-being. The research is grounded in my experiences growing up in Los Guaricanos de Villa Mella, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, a marginalized yet culturally rich community. Through participation in youth spiritual groups, community dances, and events, I developed a profound appreciation for …

Associations Between Neighborhood Factors And Adherence In Youth With Spina Bifida: The Mediating Role Of Parental Stress And Youth Internalizing Symptoms, Breana Lyn Bryant

Master's Theses

Spina bifida (SB) is a birth defect that impacts physical, medical, and neuropsychological functioning. Physical complications like hydrocephalus and bladder dysfunction require daily adherence to complex medical regimens. Additionally, youth with SB are more likely to have symptoms of anxiety and depression which can impact their ability to master their regimens. Evidence in other pediatric populations have examined the impact of family factors, like parental stress, and individual-level predictors of self-management outcomes, yet few have examined how the broader context, like neighborhoods, impact outcomes. Therefore, the current study examined (1) the level of the neighborhood vulnerability and acute healthcare services …

By focusing on the relationships mobilized by adventure playground advocates at different scales and across different points of view, and how these networks shaped the local production of spaces for play, this dissertation's method underlines the importance …

Jurisdiction Devolution: An Interim Transitional Arrangement On The Road To Indigenous Self-Government, Nicole Spadotto Sep 2024

Jurisdiction Devolution: An Interim Transitional Arrangement On The Road To Indigenous Self-Government, Nicole Spadotto

Dalhousie Law Journal

Indigenous self-government is a key component of reconciliation between Canada and Indigenous Nations. The negotiation of self-government agreements and exercise of self-government should occur on Indigenous Peoples’ own terms. Negotiations, however, can be lengthy. There are more immediate power-sharing alternatives. These include recognition legislation, where federal and provincial governments recognize Indigenous Peoples’ inherent right to self-government over certain affairs, thus creating space for Indigenous Nations to exercise their inherent self-government rights. They also include jurisdictional devolution, a fuller form of delegation, which might include law-making and enforcement powers. This latter option is “somewhat unpalatable” because the source of the governance …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background: Autistic youth experience high rates of anxiety, which has been treated with modified cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), often integrating exposure therapy. Such anxiety treatments are effective for this population; however, there remains a gap between these evidence-based mental health interventions and their implementation in community mental health (CMH) services where autistic youth receive care.

Method: This qualitative study conducted semi-structured interviews with four types of community members in the United States: 15 autistic youth with anxiety, 15 caregivers of autistic youth with anxiety, 11 CMH clinicians, and 8 CMH clinic leaders. Participants identified the training needs of CMH clinicians to …

An Exploration Of Adult Children’S Attachment To Their Parents Across Two Cultural Groups: Indians In India And Indians Who Immigrated To The United States, Vilasini Meenakshi Arun Aug 2024

An Exploration Of Adult Children’S Attachment To Their Parents Across Two Cultural Groups: Indians In India And Indians Who Immigrated To The United States, Vilasini Meenakshi Arun

Doctoral Dissertations

Typically, attachment theory has been studied and explored with western populations. Individuals seeking mental health treatment within the United States include western and nonwestern cultural groups and research, theories and interventions that apply to diverse populations are necessary. Attachment relationships are often a part of, or reasons for clients to seek therapy either overtly or covertly, thus allowing research on attachment to better inform treatment plans and practice. An attachment relationship between a parent and child can be influenced by several factors and may change over the course of development, but little is known about this process among Indians …

Development Of Community‐Based Workshops For Mexican‐Origin Rural, Low‐Income Study Participants, Rosa D. Manzo, Yvette G. Flores, Adela De La Torre Aug 2024

Development Of Community‐Based Workshops For Mexican‐Origin Rural, Low‐Income Study Participants, Rosa D. Manzo, Yvette G. Flores, Adela De La Torre

Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education

This paper documents the process of developing community-based psychoeducational workshops to engage and retain study participants within a comparison research site. The development and adaptation of the workshops followed methods of cultural adaptation and ecological validity (Domenech-Rodriguez & Wieling, 2004; Bernal, Bonilla, & Bellido, 1995). Our work supports the idea that culturally responsive approaches can engage community members and increase the acceptability of researchers in low-income Mexican-origin communities.

Parental Incarceration And Substance Use: Multipliers Of Aces Determining The Future Of Our Youth, Katie Heath

Master of Arts in Human Services

Although we are aware that a large percentage of incarcerated individuals that have entered the criminal justice system have substance use disorders, less attention has been given to the large percentage of these individuals that are parents. As these parents struggle with navigating the criminal justice system and maintaining sobriety, the children in these homes are often left facing uncertainties of where they will get their next meal, how they will find a way to get to school, or avoid the chaos in their home. This study aims to look at how this significant population of children faces a multiplied …

The objective of this scoping review was to synthesise the academic and grey literature on equity-informed social media risk communication strategies developed during the pandemic. DESIGN: The review followed the Arksey and …
