Acquisition Targeting: Toward Modelling Small Business Acquisition With Machine Learning, Jeremy Chambers
Acquisition Targeting: Toward Modelling Small Business Acquisition With Machine Learning, Jeremy Chambers
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
Small business acquisition suffers from a lack of information transparency, and many business buyers consequently value acquisitions differently. This project uses the case study methodology to analyze Sound Hardware Inc. and its management team to understand its context in-depth and provide a model that calculates an acquisition price in addition to offering business planning. It does this by using machine learning algorithms to reduce the number of engineered variables resulting in a priority list of factors contributing to value. This core process of dimensionality reduction is followed by a sample valuation that uses the results of the dimensionality reduction in …

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
In 2022, Indonesia experienced a public health crisis involving acute kidney failure in children, traced to paracetamol syrup contaminated with ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol. This underscores the urgent need for safer antipyretic alternatives. This study investigates the antipyretic potential of transdermal patches formulated with ethanol extract of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) leaves sourced from Srandakan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Extract concentrations of 0.8%, 1.0%, and 1.2% were tested, alongside a negative control (no extract) and a positive control (paracetamol). The patches underwent evaluations for organoleptic properties, weight uniformity (0.41±0.02 to 0.52±0.02 g), thickness (0.36±0.03 to 0.41±0.03 mm), water absorption …

A Mother's Understanding Of Her Adolescent: A Social Anxiety Study, Cheronda Pinkard
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Social anxiety disorder (SAD) affects 1% to 13% of adolescents, often placing significant demands on their caregivers. Mothers frequently adapt their behaviors to accommodate their child’s anxiety, which may impact their well-being and the parent-child relationship. This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of mothers accommodating adolescents with SAD to understand better the emotional and relational toll of this caregiving role. The problem addressed is the limited understanding of how maternal accommodation affects mothers. Mental health practitioners, educators, and policymakers may benefit from this research by gaining insight into these families' challenges and informing family-centered interventions and support services. Guided …

Molecular Mechanism Governing The Plasticity Of Use-Dependent Spike Broadening In Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons, Tyler D. Alexander, Stephen Tymanskyj, Kyle J. Kennedy, Leonard K. Kaczmarek, Manuel Covarrubias
SKMC Student Presentations and Publications
Use-dependent spike broadening (UDSB) results from inactivation of the voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels that regulate the repolarization of the action potential. However, the specific signaling and molecular processes that modulate UDSB have remained elusive. Here, we applied an adeno-associated viral vector approach and dynamic clamping to conclusively demonstrate how multisite phosphorylation of the N-terminal inactivation domain (NTID) of the Kv3.4 channel modulates UDSB in rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. The Kv3.4 phosphonull variant promotes slow recovery from inactivation, cumulative inactivation, and UDSB. In contrast, the Kv3.4 phosphomimic variant promotes fast recovery from inactivation and robust resistance to cumulative inactivation …

Exclusion Within Inclusive Education Policy: The Challenges Facing Urban Refugees In Accessing Education In Thailand, Mst Umme Habiba Fahmina Karim Dr.
Exclusion Within Inclusive Education Policy: The Challenges Facing Urban Refugees In Accessing Education In Thailand, Mst Umme Habiba Fahmina Karim Dr.
Indonesia Law Review
Despite Thailand’s adoption of the Education for All policy in 2005, which grants all children, including refugees, access to free public education, refugee children largely remain excluded. Camp-based refugees attend informal, unrecognized education programs, while urban refugee children are categorised with migrant children in enrollment data. In 2023, only 34% of legal migrant children were enrolled in public schools, while refugees—often classified as "illegal migrants"—are either left out or attend unofficial community schools. This study examines the gap between policy and practice by exploring the experiences of urban refugees and perspectives of key stakeholders, including refugees, government agencies, and humanitarian …

Rupture In The Legal Hierarchy: Normative Conflicts And The Subversion Of Agrarian Principles In Indonesia’S Omnibus Law, Waldus Situmorang, Mella Ismelina F. R., Rasji Rasji
Indonesia Law Review
This article examines the normative conflict between Law No. 6 of 2023 on the Establishment of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law on Job Creation and the Basic Agrarian Law (UUPA), specifically within the land law cluster. Using a normative approach and the theory of derogation, the article identifies three core areas of legal inconsistency: (1) the strengthening of Land Management Rights (Hak Pengelolaan), (2) foreign ownership of apartment units, and (3) the granting of land rights in aboveground and underground spaces. These legal inconsistencies not only create normative dualism but also generate legal uncertainty and threaten the principle of …

International Economic Agreements As Impediments To Carbon Tax Climate Change Mitigation: Is The Un Framework Tax Convention The Way Forward?, Edwin Vanderbruggen
Indian Journal of International Economic Law
This article outlines some of the international legal impediments to domestic environmental tax policies in furtherance of climate change mitigation, i.e. certain WTO rules on trade in goods, fuel tax exemptions in aviation treaties, and tax stabilisation provisions that are protected under the umbrella clause of investment treaties. It argues that international action is the most effective and often the only option to address those legal obstacles. The emergence of the United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation (‘FTC’) is, in that regard, a timely development. Given the central institutional role UN-related bodies already have in climate change, sea …
