Food insecurity disproportionately affects smallholder farming households and within them women, who bear primary caregiving responsibilities and contend with time and resource constraints that heighten their vulnerability to adverse nutrition-related health outcomes. This study cross-sectionally investigates the association between food production practices, household consumer behaviour, and the experience of food insecurity with women's waist-hip ratio (WHR), a key indicator of abdominal obesity, in a coastal community in Kenya. Background: Black race, inadequate health literacy, and poor perceived control are predictors of increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among race, health literacy, perceived control, and CVD risk while controlling for known risk factors in incarcerated men. Methods: We included data from 349 incarcerated men to examine race and CVD risk (Framingham Risk Score) using a serial mediation model with health literacy and perceived control using 95% confidence intervals (CIs) from 5000 bootstrap samples. The COVID-19 pandemic placed significant mental strain on frontline healthcare workers, particularly travel nurses deployed to high-risk areas. This group experienced heightened anxiety, fear, and post-traumatic stress, which often limited their engagement in essential self-care practices. Previous research indicates that structured self-care interventions, particularly those incorporating mindfulness, can help mitigate stress and improve mental health. Yeasts inhabit diverse natural environments, including the honeycombs of wild honeybee colonies residing at different elevations. This study investigates yeast populations in honeycombs located at two sampling sites, Bligo and Sukomulyo, Central Java Province, Indonesia, situated in a montane region at elevations of 131.1 and 676 meters above sea level, respectively. Out of the 40 yeast isolates collected, 12 distinct fingerprints were identified, representing ten strains across four species. Debaryomyces hansenii emerged as the predominant species, accounting for seven of the total strains, and being found at both sampling sites. Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) leaves contain chemical compounds that can be used to promote anti-obesity. This study aimed to examine the phytochemical and anti-obesity properties of the ethanol extract of binahong leaves. The binahong extract was obtained by maceration of the leaves, followed by ethanol extraction. Phytochemical analysis was performed by UV-Vis spectroscopy to identify and determine the levels of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, and tannins in the extract, using quercetin as a standard for calibration. Absorbance was measured at a wavelength of 430 nm. The flavonoid, glycoside, tannin, saponin, and steroid/terpenoid contents were determined, but alkaloid compounds were not found. …

Long-duration spaceflight is associated with pathophysiological changes in the intracranial compartment hypothetically linked to microgravity-induced headward fluid shift. This study aimed to determine whether daily artificial gravity (AG) sessions can mitigate these effects, supporting its application as a countermeasure to spaceflight. Twenty-four healthy adult volunteers (16 men) were exposed to 60 days of 6° head-down tilt bed rest (HDTBR) as a ground-based analog of chronic headward fluid shift. Ontology development involves a top-down approach where ontology engineers and domain experts collaboratively define and evaluate ontological elements and axioms. Translating ontology axioms into natural language can significantly aid in ontology evaluation by making the content more understandable to subject matter experts who may lack a background in knowledge engineering. In this preliminary study, we investigate the potential of large language models (LLMs) in axiom translation from ontologies to facilitate ontology evaluation. The aim of this investigation was to examine levels of minerals in fruit pulp of 12 jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) genotypes. In total, 25 mineral elements including quantity (7), essential-trace (12) and unclassified mineral elements (6) have been detected using ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. Overall, ‘Seedling 1 (yellow-fleshed)’ was shown to be comparatively rich in essential-trace elements (molybdenum, chromium, copper, and iron). Dyadic leader–follower relationships play a significant role in sustainable development of labor-intensive and service-oriented organizations. The purpose of this study is to assess employees’ motivation and outcomes of developing and maintaining high-quality supervisor–subordinate guanxi in Chinese hotels. A survey was undertaken in four- or five-star hotels, with a total of 318 matched employees-supervisor completed responses used for data analysis, which was conducted using SPSS Statistics and SmartPLS. The global prevalence of type 2 diabetes is one of the greatest health threats in society, especially in the rural population. Rural healthcare data analysis has proved a need for type 2 diabetes control education. Despite the existence of helpful diabetes control interventions, rural diabetes patients still struggle to maintain healthy behaviors, with about 60% of the patients recording hemoglobin A1c levels above 9. We conducted a multilevel meta-analysis of 390 effect sizes from 167 studies with 157,923 participants examining the relationship between connectedness with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) communities and health-related outcomes, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We conducted our initial search in January 2023 in APA PsycInfo, ERIC, Medline, and Open Dissertations, selecting studies that (a) measured LGBTQ+ community connectedness, (b) measured health, and (c) provided an estimate of the relationship between LGBTQ+ community connectedness and health. In this exploratory study, we examined the understudied relationship between body composition and sexual behavior among freshmen college students, addressing a gap in empirical research. Our sample consisted of 217 nonclinical college students recruited from a university in the southwestern United States; a majority of the students were Hispanic (70%) and freshmen (95%). Using multivariate logistic regression, we explored associations of body mass index, body fat percentage, and fat mass index with sexual behaviors. More than half of the participants were either overweight (22.5%) or obese (30.4%), and nearly 70% fell outside the healthy range of body fat. Results showed …

BACKGROUND: Cachexia accounts for about 20% of all cancer-related deaths and indicates poor prognosis. The impact of Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn), a microbial risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC), on the development of cachexia in CRC has not been established.

METHODS: We evaluated the association between Fn abundance in pre-surgical stool samples and onset of cachexia at 6 months post-surgery in n = 87 patients with stages I-III CRC in the ColoCare Study.

Apolipoprotein E ε4 (APOE4) is a strong genetic risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease and metabolic dysfunction. However, whether APOE4 and markers of metabolic dysfunction synergistically impact the deterioration of white matter (WM) integrity in older adults remains unknown.

In the UK Biobank data, we conducted a multivariate analysis to investigate the interactions between APOE4 and 249 plasma metabolites (measured using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) with whole-brain WM integrity (measured by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging) in a cohort of 1,917 older adults (aged 65.0–81.0 years; 52.4% female).

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a liver cancer originating from hepatocytes, is a major health concern and among the most common malignancies worldwide. Sorafenib, approved by the U.S. F.D.A., is the primary first-line treatment for patients with advanced HCC. While the preferred first-line systemic regimen for HCC is immunotherapy with Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab or Tremelimumab-actl + durvalumab, Sorafenib is still an alternative recommended regimen. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion in genetically predisposed individuals, marked by inflammation and the production of anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies. Although CD patients often have lower body mass indexes and LDL levels, systemic inflammation can lead to endothelial dysfunction and accelerated atherosclerosis, potentially increasing the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). We present a case of a 46-year-old female with CD who developed multivessel CAD, ultimately requiring coronary artery bypass grafting. Aging involves significant changes in body composition, marked by declines in muscle mass and bone mineral density alongside an increase in fat mass. Sarcopenia is characterized by low strength and muscle mass, and osteosarcopenia is the coexistence of sarcopenia and osteopenia/osteoporosis. Background: The 17-item Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) is a commonly used patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess kinesiophobia, but the measurement properties of the TSK in people with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) are unknown. Nevertheless, there is a significant gap in exploring the impact of food intake on physiological indicators (e.g., weight) over time. Plant-waste-derived bioactive compounds have generated growing interest recently. In this context, this project examined the phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity, and antibiofilm capability of the seed extract of Phoenix dactylifera. Six date seed varieties (Fardh, Sukarri, Negal, Majdool, Zahidi, and Khadrawy) were studied. In this study, a novel ultrasound-assisted extraction technique is compared with the conventional extraction method (maceration using 80% ethanol), taking into account both the quality and quantity of polyphenols. This study aimed to evaluate the possible impact of an aquaponics system on the cultivation of pearl millet, finger millet, and quinoa, utilizing water from tilapia aquaculture.
