Visual Analytic Techniques For Interpretable Algorithmic Ranking Systems, Jun Yuan Dec 2024

Visual Analytic Techniques For Interpretable Algorithmic Ranking Systems, Jun Yuan

Dissertations

Rankings have a profound impact on the increasingly data-driven society. From leisurely activities like the movies to watch, the restaurants to patronize; to highly consequential decisions, like making educational and occupational choices or getting hired by companies— these are all driven by sophisticated yet mostly opaque algorithmic rankers. A small change in how these rankers order the data items can have profound consequences, like deterioration of the prestige of a university or a job applicant missing out on being on the list of the top candidates for an organization. These scenarios necessitate data-driven and human-centered innovation to make rankers accessible, …

Online Versus Face-To-Face Instruction: Entry Level Accounting Students Are Performing About The Same, Nancy L. Johnson, Candalyn B. Rade

The North American Accounting Studies

Students today demonstrate strong aptitude for using online learning resources resulting from most completing high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning resources available for instructional design include faculty created, publisher provided, and a plethora of online videos. This study aimed to understand if scores on graded assignments differ between online (OL) and face-to-face (F2F) sections of entry-level accounting, differences in student learning resources access, and if access correlates with performance on graded assignments. Findings revealed students performed similarly in OL and F2F sections on many, but not all graded assignments. Video resource access was higher for OL students and was …

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Gastric lymphoma often presents with non-specific symptoms, contributing to delayed diagnosis. Gastric Outlet Obstruction (GOO) is a potential complication that may occur in patients with gastric lymphoma. A 62-year-old male patient presented with persistent weakness, nausea, and vomiting. His symptoms began with long-standing abdominal discomfort, which had not been further evaluated. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) revealed GOO secondary to a mass, which, after pathological and immunohistochemical evaluation, was diagnosed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The patient was subsequently given a nasojejunal feeding tube and treated with R-CHOP chemotherapy (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and oral prednisone). The non-specific nature of gastric lymphoma …

Intestinal protozoan parasites spread all the world and associated between man and animals. They are transmitted to man through consuming drinks and food contaminated with parasite cysts. They infect all age groups, each of these protozoa is characterized by special and distinctive symptoms such as fever, chills and abdominal pain, may have only mild abdominal discomfort or no symptoms at all but the main distinctive symptom of the infection is severe diarrhea. Sometimes the infection is not limited to the intestines only, but is transmitted to other organs. diagnosis of intestinal protozoan infections based on symptoms and physical findings is difficult; …

Prevalence Of Abortifacient Disorders In Small Ruminants: A Comprehensive Review, Abdul Saboor, Qudratullah Kalwar, Muhammad Mohsen Rahimoon, Hubdar Ali Kolachi, Sajad Ali Laghari, Asmatullah Kaka, Rafique Ahmed, Fayaz Hussain, Taj Muhammad, Atthar Uddin

Journal of Bioresource Management

Abortifacient disorders in small ruminants present a serious problem for livestock farmers, leading to financial losses and lower production rates. This review examines both infectious and non-infectious factors that cause abortions in goats (Capra hircus) and sheep (Ovis aries), which are crucial animals in rural farming practices. Infectious causes, such as bacteria (Brucella melitensis, Chlamydia abortus, Coxiella burnetii), viruses (bluetongue, border disease), and parasites (Toxoplasma gondii), are major factors in reproductive health problems, resulting in considerable livestock losses. Additionally, non-infectious factors like poor nutrition, toxins, and genetic issues also contribute to these …

Economic Analysis And Profitability Of Honey Production And Marketing In Cross River State, Nigeria, Joseph A. Ugbe, Tee T.N., Ancha P.U

Journal of Bioresource Management

The significance of honey in the socio-economic livelihoods of rural and semi-urban populations is paramount, as it tackles issues such as unemployment, income, and ecosystem preservation. The decrease in the timber industry has caused numerous individuals who rely on forests for their income to be without jobs, making it difficult to find other ways to make a living. This study examines the economic analysis and profitability of honey production and marketing in Cross River State, Nigeria, over 5 years (2017-2021) for sustainable forest management. Six hundred and eighty-four (684) respondents were selected from three ecological zones in the state using …

A total of 100 participants with physical disabilities, aged 17 and older, were surveyed regarding their online and offline purchasing experiences. Data were collected via an online questionnaire and analyzed using SEM PLS. Results indicate that self-esteem and information accessibility significantly influence the empowerment of consumers with disabilities, with the Disabled Consumer Empowerment Index categorized as "not empowered." Notably, the knowledge dimension received the lowest scores based on a traffic-light system. These findings …

Roselle And Red Ginger: A Potential Combination Of Medicinal Plants For Hypertension Therapy, Ranum Wanudya Yunas, Siti Irma Rahmawati, Fadlina Chany Saputri, Asep Bayu, Giuseppina Chianese, Masteria Yunovilsa Putra

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Hypertension is a prevalent cardiovascular condition that significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Effective management is essential to prevent severe complications. Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) and red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) are two medicinal plants known for their antihypertensive properties. Roselle contains bioactive compounds such as anthocyanins that exhibit vasodilatory and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition, while red ginger is rich in gingerols and shogaols, which possess anti-inflammatory and vasodilatory properties. The complementary mechanisms of action of these two plants, including ACE inhibition, antioxidant activity, and modulation of vascular tone, result in a more …
