The Integration Of African American History Into State History Curriculum Standards: Examining The Commonwealth Of Virginia, Roxanne Souma
The Integration Of African American History Into State History Curriculum Standards: Examining The Commonwealth Of Virginia, Roxanne Souma
Student Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative case study sought to analyze and describe both the quantity and quality of African American history curriculum integration into Virginia's U.S. History curriculum standards at three points in time (2008 standards, 2015 standards, and revised 2020 standards) in the three U.S. history courses (USI, 5th, USII, 6th, VUS, 11th). Regarding quality, the study measured African American history integration in the three identified U.S. History courses in the three standards revision years according to Banks' (1994) Four Levels of Multicultural Integration, as defined and discussed in the Conceptual Framework. The study results indicated Virginia's U.S. history courses integrate African …

Multitiered Systems Of Support And The Achievement Gap In The Washington, Dc, Metropolitan Mid-Atlantic Region: An Analysis Of Teacher Perceptions Of Effectiveness, Demarco Ray Brooks
Student Theses and Dissertations
Efforts to bridge educational achievement gaps and address inequities remain a central challenge across the United States. The multitiered system of supports has emerged as a prominent intervention framework with which to equip educators for this task. Given its growing adoption across school districts, a deeper understanding of teacher perspectives on the effectiveness of the framework is vital to efforts by educational stakeholders, leaders, and officials to eliminate achievement gaps. This study specifically involved exploration of teacher perceptions regarding the impact of the framework on marginalized students’ academic achievement and its use to close achievement gaps. Analysis of interviews and …
Intersections Of Living And Machine Agencies: Art-Based Models Of Adaptive Conversation With The More-Than-Human World, Carlos Castellanos
Intersections Of Living And Machine Agencies: Art-Based Models Of Adaptive Conversation With The More-Than-Human World, Carlos Castellanos
Tradition Innovations in Arts, Design, and Media Higher Education
Today’s AI systems are not built to have reciprocal interplay with their environments and thus they demonstrate little interest in emergence, adaptation or developing mutually productive relationships with the natural world. Is a different kind of AI possible? How can artists contribute to its development? In this essay, I will discuss ways in which the arts might help guide us towards a new kind of AI, built upon adaptive conversation (i.e. shared construction of meaning) with nature. I will discuss how can work with AI while also challenging its prevailing ontology, and even suggest alternative ontologies and epistemologies. I will …
Computing Exterior Isoclinism Of Crossed Modules, Zekeri̇ya Arvasi̇, Alper Odabaş
Computing Exterior Isoclinism Of Crossed Modules, Zekeri̇ya Arvasi̇, Alper Odabaş
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we introduce exterior isoclinism for crossed modules, extending the concept of isoclinism from groups to these 2-dimensional algebraic structures. Motivated by work on tensor and exterior products of non-abelian groups, we utilize non-abelian exterior products, exterior squares, and exterior centers to define this new equivalence relation. Additionally, we provide computational tools implemented in the GAP system to identify exterior isoclinism families of small groups and crossed modules.
The Multiples Of A Numerical Semigroup, Ignacio Ojeda, José Carlos Rosales
The Multiples Of A Numerical Semigroup, Ignacio Ojeda, José Carlos Rosales
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Given two numerical semigroups $S$ and $T$ we say that $T$ is a multiple of $S$ if there exists an integer $d \in \mathbb{N} \setminus \{0\}$ such that $S = \{x \in \mathbb{N} \mid d x \in T\}$. In this paper we study the family of multiples of a (fixed) numerical semigroup. We also address the open problem of finding numerical semigroups of embedding dimension $e$ without any quotient of embedding dimension less than $e$, and provide new families with this property.

Moment-Based Approximation For Variance Of Semi-Markovian Random Walk With Gamma Distributed Interference Of Chance, Büşra Alakoç, Asli Bektaş Kamişlik, Tülay Yazir, Tahi̇r Khaniyev
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This study proposed moment-based approximations for the expected value and variance of the ergodic distribution of the semi-Markovian random walk process (X(t)) with gamma distributed interference of chance. Many studies have investigated analogous moment problems by using asymptotic approach. The key distinguishing aspect of this study from others in the literature is obtaining Kambo’s approximations for the moments of X(t) instead of asymptotic expansions. Firstly, the approximation formulas for the moments of boundary functional SN(z) of X(t) were obtained. Then using these results, approximation formulas for the first two moments of the ergodic distributions of X(t) were derived. Finally, the …

Free Weakly K-Nilpotent N-Tuple Semigroups, Anatolii V. Zhuchok, Jorg Koppitz
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we construct a free object in the variety of weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroups and characterize the least weakly k-nilpotent congruence on a free n-tuple semigroup. Moreover, we present separately free weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroups of rank 1, calculate the cardinality of the free weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroup for the finite case, emphasize that the semigroups of the free weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroup are isomorphic and the automorphism group of the free weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroup is isomorphic to the symmetric group. We also describe all maximal n-tuple subsemigroups of the free weakly k-nilpotent n-tuple semigroup and all …

Explicit Solution Of System Of Two Higher-Order Recurrences, László Németh, László Szalay
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We give a method to determine an explicit solution to a system of two inhomogeneous linear recursive sequences of higher order. Our approach can be used efficiently in solving certain combinatorial problems. We finish the paper by considering a tiling problem with black and white dominoes, and we use the method as a demonstration to find the solution.

Fibration Category Structures Induced By Enrichments, Mehmet Aki̇f Erdal
Fibration Category Structures Induced By Enrichments, Mehmet Aki̇f Erdal
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We study fibration category structures induced by enrichments over symmetric monoidal categories that are also fibration categories. Let $\mathcal V$ be a monoidal category that is also a fibration category. Assume that $\mathcal V$ has an interval object. We show that the fibration category structure on $\mathcal V$ can be transferred over any $\mathcal V$-enriched category through corepresentable functors provided that certain power objects exists. We also give its $G$-equivariant extension for a group $G$, so that under mild conditions the category of $G$-objects in a $\mathcal V$-enriched category admits a (non-trivial) fibration category structure. We later show that several …

The 2-Adic Valuation Of Shifted Padovan And Perrin Numbers And Applications, Eric Bravo, Nuretti̇n Irmak
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We characterize the 2-adic valuation of (Pn − 1)n≥0 , where (Pn)n≥0 denotes the Padovan sequence. In addition, we use this formula to find all the Cullen and Proth numbers that are Padovan numbers. We also fully describe the 2-adic order of (Rn + 1)n≥0 , where (Rn)n≥0 denotes the Perrin sequence, and use it to find all Woodall and Proth numbers of the second kind which are Perrin numbers. As a consequence we find that 3, 5, 9, and 65 are the only Fermat numbers in the Padovan sequence; while 3 and 7 and 2 and 5 are the …

Numerical Solutions Of Sird Model Of Covid-19 By Utilizing Pell-Lucascollocation Method, Gamze Yildirim, Şuayi̇p Yüzbaşi
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This article presents an SIRD model based on the evolution of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 from the coronavirus family. Firstly, we constitute Pell-Lucas collocation method (PLCM) for this model. According to method, the matrix forms of the Pell-Lucas polynomials (PLPs) are constituted. By utilizing this matrix forms, solution forms and all terms in this model are expressed in matrix form. Thus, PLCM transforms our model into a system of the matrix equations. By solving this system, the approximate solutions are obtained. In addition, the error analysis is also presented. In the examples of this study, we analyzed …

Some Free Boundary Problem Arising In Rock Mechanics, Anvarbek Meirmanov, Koblandy Yerzhanov
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
An initial boundary value problem for the in-situ leaching of rare metals with the acid solution in the elastic skeleton is considered. First, we describe physical processes at the microscopic level with a dimensional pore size [[EQUATION]]1 by the model [[EQUATION]], where dynamics of the incompressible solid skeleton is described by the Lamé equations and the physical process in the pore space by the Stokes equations for the incompressible fluid in combination with the diffusion and transport equations for the concentration of acid and product of chemical reactions. Since the solid skeleton changes its geometry upon dissolution, the “pore space …

Construction, Emplacement, And Structure Of Cretaceous Plutons In The Ebbetts Pass Region, North-Central Sierra Nevada Batholith, California, Hollianne C. Mcclure
Master's Theses
Field, petrographic, and geochronologic analyses were conducted for five Cretaceous plutons in the North-Central Sierra Nevada batholith to better understand their construction, emplacement, and deformation histories. All the plutons in the study area were constructed incrementally, but timing and degrees of mixing between increments vary. The lack of internal contacts and heterogeneity in the interiors of the Stanislaus Meadow and Ebbetts Pass plutons suggest that there were sizeable magma chambers where there was thorough mixing of increments. The West of Elbow, Lookout Peak, and Kinney Lakes plutons were constructed from small batches of magma based on their textural and compositional …
Using Moss As An Inexpensive Air Pollution Bioindicator For Environmental Equity In Santa Clara Country, California, Tam Dan Tran
Using Moss As An Inexpensive Air Pollution Bioindicator For Environmental Equity In Santa Clara Country, California, Tam Dan Tran
Master's Theses
Toxins pervade urban areas and pose long-term health risks to humans. I examine moss as an affordable bioindicator and assess whether moss monitor results reflect other air quality (AQ) indicators, environmental factors, and social vulnerability. Specifically, I investigate (1) whether moss is an effective atmospheric pollution indicator and (2) whether low-income or high-lead-risk neighborhoods experience greater exposure to air pollution. I set out Hypnum cupressiforme moss for two months of exposure in 28 Santa Clara County locations and then measured chromium, zinc, nickel, and the loss of chlorophyll fluorescence in the moss tissue. I gathered real-time particulate matter (PM2.5) measurements …
Active Tectonics, Erosion Rates, And Topographic Metrics In The Hayword-Calaveras Fault Zone, Simone I. Yeager
Active Tectonics, Erosion Rates, And Topographic Metrics In The Hayword-Calaveras Fault Zone, Simone I. Yeager
Master's Theses
In northern California, the complex geometry of the San Andreas Fault system, and how it steps and propagates across the Earth’s surface, is revealed in the topography. Activity along the Mission and Arroyo Aguague oblique reverse faults, located where the right-lateral Hayward Fault steps to the left of the Calaveras Fault, are manifested in the Diablo Mountain Range. The high topography in the restraining step can be observed in lidar imagery and seismicity studies show these faults are connected at depth. In this study, we investigate active tectonics, erosion rates, and topographic metrics from the southern end of the restraining …
The Effects Of Stress On Attentional Networks, Alice Tsvinev
The Effects Of Stress On Attentional Networks, Alice Tsvinev
Master's Theses
The human brain has developed mechanisms to aid our survival, including attentional networks and stress response. Attentional shifts allow humans to react accordingly to their environment, following innate processes like fight or flight. Prolonged exposure to acute stress interferes with such cognitive processes as attention and working memory, impacting attentional systems. The present study examined the effects of acute stress on visual attention processes, specifically focusing on the orienting, alerting, and executive attention networks. 49 participants were randomly placed in either a stress or non-stress condition, then asked to reflect on either stressful or positive moments in their lives, respectively. …
Coding Connections: Exploring Relationships Between Computer Science Learning And Mathematics Achievement In Secondary Education, Bradley Hayes
Coding Connections: Exploring Relationships Between Computer Science Learning And Mathematics Achievement In Secondary Education, Bradley Hayes
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation in practice explores the intersection of computer science education, specifically computational thinking and programming, with mathematics achievement among 15-year-old students in selected English-speaking countries. The research addresses a gap in understanding whether skills developed through computer science can positively influence mathematics performance by assessing the extent to which learning in computer science transfers to mathematics.
To achieve this, a quantitative methodology was employed, incorporating pilot study data from a single school and large-scale survey data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022. The analysis assessed the correlation between regular participation in programming activities and mathematics attainment, …

Sustainable Mobility: Machine Learning-Driven Deployment Of Ev Charging Points In Dublin, Ruairí De Fréin, Alexander Mutiso Mutua Mr
Articles
Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in urban areas face range anxiety due to the fear of running out of charge without timely access to charging points (CPs). The lack of sufficient numbers of CPs has hindered EV adoption and negatively impacted the progress of sustainable mobility. We propose a CP distribution algorithm that is machine learning-based and leverages population density, points of interest (POIs), and the most used roads as input parameters to determine the best locations for deploying CPs. The objects of the following research are as follows: (1) to allocate weights to the three parameters in a $6$ km …

The Compositions Derived From By Changing Variable In Singular Distributions, Emi̇n Özçağ
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper we concern further results of \cite{kn:oz9,kn:oz8} by using the method mainly related to the finite part of divergent integral, in fact we consider the powers for positive integers of the composition of the Dirac delta function and an infinitely differentiable function having any number of distinct multiple roots which will be defined as the neutrix limit of the regular sequence $\delta^k_n(f(x))$. Moreover we show that the powers of the composition $\delta(f(x))$ for negative integers can be also defined via neutrix settings. Some compositions as examples to better understand will be given.
Relationship Of Cyber Threat Intelligence And Critical Infrastructure Assets On Information Technology Critical Infrastructure Attacks, Albert Su
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Ransomware cyberattacks on critical infrastructure can disrupt critical services with the capacity to impact human lives. Some security operations center (SOC) analysts feel overwhelmed by the influx of threat indicators of compromise (IoC), making it challenging to discern which alerts are significant for their organization. Grounded in John Boyd's OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) theoretical framework, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between cyber threat intelligence (CTI) and critical infrastructure assets on information technology critical infrastructure attacks. Data were collected by ingesting information from a U.S. CTI vendor and alerting IoCs related to critical …
