Abnormal Event Detection Using Hypergraph Based Multiple Objects Tracking Techniques In Surveillance Videos, Palanivel S
Theses and Dissertations
Abnormal event detection aims to identify the events that deviate from expected normal patterns. This work primarily focuses on detection of rare events in public places. The existing research challenges in a video-based surveillance systems for the vehicle have been analysed and presence of abnormal objects in traffic-oriented videos have been detected. A novel approach for event summarization and rare event detection has been proposed in this work. The key ingredient in this work is the incorporation of Hypergraph (HG) matching.
Despite the reasonable amount of success achieved by a large number of researchers over the globe, distinguishing important videos …

Using the appraisal framework, this research aims to identify and examine these two opposing orientations as they appear in Indonesian scientific articles. The analysis considered factors such as publication year, geographical scope, methodology, and sector. The findings of this investigation reveal that research on migrants’ SWB is predominantly quantitative, with a significant lack of nuanced perspectives. Most studies focus on developed countries, resulting in an underrepresentation of developing …

Check-In-Check-Out Intervention For Jose: A Collaborative Approach To Behavioral Intervention For A Student From A Cld Background, Robai N. Werunga Phd
Journal of Case Learning & Exceptional Learners
Engaging families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) backgrounds has been found to yield collateral effects that include positive school outcomes for CLD students with disabilities. However, fostering active CLD family engagement, including those of immigrant status has historically posed some challenges. Additionally, when the student in question has a diagnosis that involves behavioral challenges, school and family interactions tend to be adversarial in nature. In this case study, the author describes the procedures undertaken to implement an intervention that not only addresses targeted behaviors of a student from CLD background, but also solicits and fosters parental involvement.

The management of solid waste poses a worldwide obstacle in the pursuit of a sustainable society. This issue has intensified with the increase in waste production caused by rapid population expansion, industrialization, and urbanization. The continuously growing volume of municipal solid waste, particularly the substantial volume of organic waste, along with improper disposal practices, results in the release of greenhouse gases and other harmful airborne substances which simultaneously causes health risks and socioeconomic concerns. This article examines various waste-to-energy (energy production in the form of heat and electricity) concepts as well as waste-to-materials (various value-added materials including biofuel, biochemical, char, …

“I think I can, I think I can’ puffed “The Little Engine That Could.” The American folktale taught the value of optimism and hard work reflecting a growth mindset belief about abilities. A growth mindset positively impacts academic achievement, motivation, and children’s agency for learning. Few studies have explored how early childhood teachers can develop children’s growth mindsets. We report on a study that developed design principles to assist early childhood teachers to foster a growth mindset in children in early childhood classrooms at one school in Western Australia using design-based research. Two iterations of the principles were designed and …

The (Im)Possibility Of Anti-Systemic Politics: Uprisings, Exilic Spaces, And Alain Badiou, Jason C. Mueller
Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis
The world-system is in crisis, and a flurry of uprisings challenge the mantra that 'there is no alternative' to capitalism. However, some questions remain. What will replace the global capitalist mode of production, and how will those aspiring to transform the system do so? These questions are of relevance to three separate but related domains of research: (1) the study of anti-systemic movements by world-systems analysts; (2) the study of exilic spaces by scholars using an anarchist perspective; and (3) the work of French Philosopher Alain Badiou. This article stages a discussion between these three areas, locating areas in each …

Knowledge Tools For Communication And The Profit Motive, Arthur Suciu
Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis
This article explores the limits and risks of the domination of the profit ideology outside the economic field, especially in universities and scientific research. The ideology of profit, which starts from relativist premises, justifies its domination by rejecting any kind of radical ideology. As such, the ideology of profit has a totalitarian character. Given that the market instrumentalizes both university training and scientific research, challenging the ideology of profit requires theories and methods that do not correspond to the logic of profit, but instead enable a radical critique of capitalism.

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experience and perceptions adapting to the process of college-level education for African international students at a four-year college in the southeastern United States. The theory that guided this study was Berry’s acculturation theory, which categorizes individual adaptation strategies into two dimensions. This study was guided by acculturation theory aligned with the central research question and sub-questions. Participants who completed their studies or were current students at the university were selected through purposeful and snowball sampling. Data was collected through individual interviews, online surveys, and focus groups and analyzed …
Speech-Language Pathologists’ Perceptions Of A Clinical Doctorate In Speech-Language Pathology: A Phenomenological Study, Dawn Mckee

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the perspectives of speech-language pathologists regarding a clinical doctorate as a potential entry-level degree for practicing speech-language pathologists. The central research question sought to determine the overall attitudes of speech-language pathologists about a clinical doctorate. The theories guiding this study were social constructionism and experiential learning theory, as this study attempted to construct the perceived reality of practicing speech-language pathologists regarding clinical doctorates and involved their educational and work experiences. The methodology utilized was transcendental phenomenology and included three data collection approaches: interviews, letter-writing, and focus groups. The data were analyzed …
