The Power Of Plate & Knowledge: Nutrition’S Role In Pcos Management For Asian American Women, Cassandra Camille Diego Curameng
The Power Of Plate & Knowledge: Nutrition’S Role In Pcos Management For Asian American Women, Cassandra Camille Diego Curameng
Nursing | Student Research Posters
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a metabolic endocrine disorder affecting 8–11% of women worldwide, with 70% remaining undiagnosed (WHO, 2023). It presents with symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, insulin resistance, high testosterone levels, anxiety, depression, and infertility, significantly impacting quality of life and health (OASH, 2021). The symptoms of PCOS can severely impact women’s quality of life, mental health, and long-term well-being. Insulin resistance contributes to symptom severity and a 50% likelihood of developing diabetes or prediabetes by age 40 (Wang et al., 2011). Women with PCOS face a threefold increased risk of endometrial, ovarian, and breast cancers (Barry …
Ad Hoc Constructions Of Penal Statutes, Joel S. Johnson
Ad Hoc Constructions Of Penal Statutes, Joel S. Johnson
Notre Dame Law Review
The Supreme Court construed penal statutes in forty-three cases from the 2013 Term through the 2022 Term. In those cases, the Court tended to adopt narrow constructions, a preference consistent with several substantive canons of construction, such as the rule of lenity and the avoidance of constitutional vagueness concerns. Substantive canons were routinely included in party briefs, frequently raised during oral argument, and occasionally explicated in concurring opinions. Yet the Court did not rely on substantive canons in the vast majority of the narrow-construction cases. For example, the Court never firmly relied upon the rule of lenity—the substantive canon most …
The Lost History Of Judicial Restraint, Derek A. Webb
The Lost History Of Judicial Restraint, Derek A. Webb
Notre Dame Law Review
For over 125 years, jurists and scholars who have championed judicial restraint have looked back to James Bradley Thayer’s 1893 Harvard Law Review article, The Origin and Scope of the American Doctrine of Constitutional Law, as the seminal authority for the rule that courts should presume the constitutionality of a challenged law and only invalidate it if its unconstitutionality is “clear” and “beyond a reasonable doubt.” But Thayer presented those three rules (presumption of constitutionality, clear error rule, and reasonable doubt standard) as rooted in historical legal practice in America. And yet none of his twentieth or twenty-first century …

A Uniform Choice? Esas And The State Right To Education, Hadiah C. Mabry
Notre Dame Law Review
Education savings accounts (ESAs) are on the rise. Just since 2023, ESAs have been on the legislative docket in Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Montana, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, and Wyoming, with ESAs already active in eleven other states. These programs provide funds directly to parents on a per-child basis which can be used on any number of educational pursuits. While ESAs are relatively young in the world of school choice, they are also the natural outgrowth of a greater push toward educational freedom for parents. They join the ranks of more established programs like school vouchers, tax credits, and charter schools.

Clinical Practice Guideline: Shared Decision Making For Patients With Mental Health Disorders, Karen Rose Grant-Simmons
Clinical Practice Guideline: Shared Decision Making For Patients With Mental Health Disorders, Karen Rose Grant-Simmons
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Summary This project was a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for practitioners who deliver healthcare services to patients living with mental health disorders. The practice problem addressed by this CPG was lack of mental health patient inclusion in terms of determining treatment plans of care. In back-to-back patient satisfaction surveys, patients indicated they would like to have more say in their treatment plans. The practice problem was important to increase patient input in clinical decision-making practices of practitioners. The project question was: Does evidence support development of a CPG for mental health patient-centered input regarding treatment plans of care that was …

Critical Reflection And Early Career Instructor Formation, Rafael Alexandre Mello
Critical Reflection And Early Career Instructor Formation, Rafael Alexandre Mello
All Faculty Scholarship
Mello develops a reflection on what it means to prepare early career instructors for their career in teaching. This chapter proposes to reconceptualize this preparation in terms of formation, juxtaposed to training. Conceptualized as an often unconscious process, training steers the early career learner to neglect reflexivity and critical thinking and become a passive absorber of knowledge. Formation as a process, however, centers the ECI as an agent of their own learning by privileging critical reflection on and engagement with disciplinary knowledge, history, and politics, with the practices of learning-teaching, and the ways they relate. The chapter intertwines …

To Read Or Not To Read: How Book Censorship Affects Students And Undermines Different Worldviews, Jordyn L. Bailey
Honors Theses
The past five years have seen an unprecedented growth in book challenges across the nation. The American Library Association announced in March 2024 that 2023 saw a ninety-two percent increase in challenged titles, making it a record year for book bans and challenges (American Library Association 2024). States are seeing increased government inference into these issues. Namely, Florida remains a leader in book challenges with over forty percent of all book bans in the 2022-2023 school year (Meehan 2023). This project examines the effect of book challenges and bans on adolescent readers, with an emphasis on how frequently challenged books, …
Sustainable Carbon Footprint Growth Mechanism In Forest Systems Under Patterns Ofglobal Climate Change, Wenbo Zhang, Guangxu Liu
Sustainable Carbon Footprint Growth Mechanism In Forest Systems Under Patterns Ofglobal Climate Change, Wenbo Zhang, Guangxu Liu
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Forests play a crucial role in regulating the global carbon cycle, but there are few existing studies on measuring the carbonfootprint of forest systems and analyzing the driving factors for sustained growth. This study investigated the carbon footprint of forestsystems, examined the driving factors behind their sustained growth under patterns of global climate change, and developed a researchmethodology to understand this sustained growth mechanism. To determine the carbon footprint and carbon-carrying capacity offorest systems, this study began with the impact of cities on forest systems and constructed a carbon footprint account for forest systems.Based on a relative growth model and …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In agroecosystems, interactions between maize root systems and soil microbes have significant effects on soil health and plant yield. In order to quantitatively assess the impact of this mutualism, the study used field experiments and soil analysis methods to analyze the effects of different sludge applications on soil physicochemical properties and microbial activity. The experiments were studied in a controlled trial with different sludge treatment gradients. The results showed that the sludge-applied soil exhibited positive changes in structure and biological activity compared to the control. The mass fraction of soil macro-aggregates increased after sludge treatment, from 48.9% to 51.1% after …

Sheteiwy, Mohammed Alyafei
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Plants encounter considerable challenges due to environmental changes induced by anthropogenic activities or abrupt seasonal patterns. As sessile organisms, plants are continuously subjected to various abiotic stresses that adversely affect growth and productivity. Researchers have been studying for years to understand how plants develop resilience and respond to these environmental stressors. The application of phytohormones is widely recognized as a practical approach to mitigate the adverse effects of abiotic stresses on horticultural plants. Phytohormones play a crucial role in enhancing plant resilience by modulating key physiological functions such as seed germination, seedling growth, root formation, and photosynthetic efficiency. They also …

The Purification, Characterization, And Inhibition Profile Of Some Herbicides Ofglutathione S-Transferase From Broccoli, Hacer Erdem Kiziltunç, Hali̇s Şaki̇roğlu, Mi̇ne Aksoy
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Herbicide selectivity is determined by the variability of herbicide degradation processes in weeds and crops. GlutathioneS-transferases (GSTs) have been widely studied in plants because of their role in herbicide metabolism. GSTs metabolize herbicides bycatalyzing reduced glutathione (GSH) conjugation. The significance of GSTs in herbicide metabolism has been understood by examiningGST in some plants. In this study, a GST enzyme was purified from broccoli using an affinity chromatography (glutathione agarose)method to contribute to the elucidation of plant GSTs. A characterization of the purified broccoli GST enzyme was then carried out.In the last step, the inhibition profiles of some selected types of …

Glutathione Alleviates Boron Toxicity By Modulating Nitrogen Metabolism And Boronuptake In Rice Seedlings, Lei Zhang, Lizhu Suo, Yan Shan, Bo Wang
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Boron (B) toxicity is an abiotic stressor in plants due to the narrow threshold range between B deficiency and B toxicity.Glutathione (GSH) has been reported to reduce abiotic stress in plants, but its effect on B toxicity alleviation, particularly in riceseedlings, is not clear. Therefore, the present research yields information on the antioxidant mechanism, nitrogen metabolism, cell wallcomponents, and B concentrations that allow rice seedlings to withstand the adverse effects of B toxicity by GSH application. The resultssuggest that B toxicity suppressed the growth traits of rice. However, GSH treatment exhibited a positive influence on the growth ofrice seedlings. GSH …
