Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale

The Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale, Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale, and Post-Discharge Coping Difficulty Scale were developed by Dr. Marianne Weiss to measure nurse-sensitive discharge care processes and patient outcomes. Three versions of the scales were developed concurrently for different patient populations – Adult medical-surgical patients, Parents of hospitalized children, and Postpartum Patient mothers (see Weiss & Piacentine, 2006, Weiss et al., 2007, and Bobay et al., 2018 for description of the development and initial testing). Additional scales and information about translation rights are located at Marquette Nursing.

Shaping Socially Engaged Art Practice And Critical Pedagogy In The Uk Arts And Cultural Sector: An Auto/Biographical Framing Of Class, Gender And Political Activism, Chrissie Tiller Jan 2024

Shaping Socially Engaged Art Practice And Critical Pedagogy In The Uk Arts And Cultural Sector: An Auto/Biographical Framing Of Class, Gender And Political Activism, Chrissie Tiller

Doctoral

Situated at the intersection of critical pedagogy, radical theatre and political activism, this PhD thesis reflects critically on a series of publications and an interdisciplinary counterhegemonic socially engaged art practice between 2010-20. Mobilising the auto/biographical as a conceptual framework for critical analysis, the thesis addresses questions of systemic inequalities, cultural democracy and social transformation in the UK arts and cultural sector. By examining my lived experience through the analytical lenses of intersectionality and feminist standpoint theory, the thesis foregrounds how interconnecting oppressions of gender and class have contributed to the formation of my creative practice and its pedagogical interventions, constituting …

Tracing The Contributions Of Django Reinhardt And Charlie Christian In The Evolution Of The Guitar In Jazz, Darach O'Laoire Jan 2024

Tracing The Contributions Of Django Reinhardt And Charlie Christian In The Evolution Of The Guitar In Jazz, Darach O'Laoire

Doctoral

The objective of this project is to examine the music of Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian with a view to analysing the origins and development of innovative harmonic and melodic material within their work. Having established the musical context in Europe and the United States from which both musicians developed, their musical styles are traced and analysed. The analytic framework used is one based on the organising principles underpinning the jazz solo of the time (circa 1920 to 1940). In examining Reinhardt’s and Christian’s musical outputs, the emphasis is put on identifying musical material which is anomalous to, or existing …

Omphale, Phryné, Antigone, Hélène, Déjanire: ‘Le Sexe Faible’ In Camille Saint-Saëns’S Greece-Inspired Works, Arun Rao

Doctoral

This thesis examines the convergence of the fin-de-siècle revival of Greek antiquity and the denigration of women brought on by the patriarchal structures of the Second Empire and the Third Republic in five works composed by Camille Saint-Saëns between 1870 and 1910: Omphale, Phryné, Antigone, Hélène, and Déjanire. Its main purpose is to reveal the compositional strategies he devised in order to effectively give each of these title characters the musical upper hand over their male counterparts. That these five works were significant landmarks in his exceptionally long career is attested by the numerous articles he published around the time …

A Multi-Life Cycle Assessment Of External Wall Insulation Strategies In An Irish Domestic Retrofit, Sara Carrigan, Patrick Daly, Alberta Congeduti

Articles

European Union (EU) policy and initiatives are driving both building renovation and the uptake of low-embodied carbon and circular design in the construction sector. The European Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast (2021) introduces global warming potential (GWP) methodology, and the future state will likely be embodied carbon targets for which life cycle assessment (LCA) of buildings will be required. External wall insulation (EWI) will have an important role to play in meeting targets. In this context, this paper compares the carbon emission payoff of three alternative EWI strategies that address conventional, low-carbon and circular solutions to EWI respectively, in …

Impact Of Psychological Therapy On Psychological Wellbeing And Quality-Of-Life In Functional Neurological Disorder: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Natalie Sen Jan 2024

Impact Of Psychological Therapy On Psychological Wellbeing And Quality-Of-Life In Functional Neurological Disorder: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Natalie Sen

School of Psychology Theses

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a common and complex condition, with a heterogeneous presentation of motor, sensory and cognitive symptoms. FND often results in significant physical disability, poor psychological wellbeing, and poor quality-of-life. A growing evidence base has been developing on the effectiveness of psychological therapy (PT) for people with FND. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to understand the effectiveness of PT on psychological wellbeing and quality-of-life in people with FND, building on existing reviews to update and strengthen the knowledge base.A systematic search was performed on four electronic databases to identify research studies evaluating 1:1 outpatient PT …

Exploring The Behavioural And Neural Bases Of Impulsivity In A Transdiagnostic Approach Relevant For Addiction., Kenza Kadri

School of Psychology Theses

This thesis aims to investigate the behavioural and neural basis of impulsivity, which is known to be a risk factor in the development of psychiatric disorders such as addiction. To tackle this issue, the thesis uses neuroimaging, behavioural, and machine-learning techniques to identify transdiagnostic markers of impulsivity and their relationship with striatal connectivity and decision-making variability. This thesis was divided into two studies. The first one aims to associate a set of transdiagnostic markers relevant to addiction with the connectivity profiles of the striatum, which is known to be implicated in processes of reward, motivation, and decision-making. In particular, this …

Rapid Antigen Testing For Sars-Cov-2 By Lateral Flow Assay: A Field Evaluation Of Self- And Professional Testing At Uk Community Testing Sites, Matthias E Futschik, Samuel Johnson, Elena Turek, David Chapman, Simon Carr, Zareen Thorlu-Bangura, Paul E Klapper, Malur Sudhanva, Andrew Dodgson, Joanna R Cole-Hamilton, Nick Germanacos, Raghavendran Kulasegaran-Shylini, Edward Blandford, Sarah Tunkel, Timothy Peto, Susan Hopkins, Tom Fowler

School of Biomedical Sciences

BACKGROUND: The advent of lateral flow devices (LFDs) for SARS-CoV-2 detection enabled widespread use of rapid self-tests during the pandemic. While self-testing using LFDs is now common, whether self-testing provides comparable performance to professional testing was a key question that remained important for pandemic planning.

METHODS: Three prospective multi-centre studies were conducted to compare the performance of self- and professional testing using LFDs. Participants tested themselves or were tested by trained (professional) testers at community testing sites in the UK. Corresponding qRT-PCR test results served as reference standard. The performance of Innova, Orient Gene and SureScreen LFDs by users (self) …
