Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies

This article examines the role of oral methodology in reconstructing historical knowledge in Mainland Tanzania over the last six decades. Although greater attention is paid to the period from the 1960s onwards, efforts have been made to illuminate on the use of oral methodology in the period before. The article is organised into four temporal sections, each representing a distinct phase of oral methodology. The first section explores the role of oral methodology before independence. It will be noticed that the gradual use of oral sources in the writing of history in Mainland Tanzania started way back during German and …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The current study delved into the problematic achievement gap between African-American graduates students and other groups, specifically in the online learning environment. African-American graduate students’ lower achievement is problematic due to its lost opportunity costs and social subjugation of an entire group of Americans. The study’s purpose was to improve our understanding of this problem in order to better inform the content and packaging of future academic delivery to this population. A qualitative methodology with a phenomenological design was used to cull the 1st hand experiences of African-American graduate students as to their online learning experiences. Self-determination and constructivism theories …

Background: The type of anesthesia is important in maternal and fetal well-being. There is different information about the effect of general and spinal anesthesia on APGAR scores and hemodynamic stability for maternal, so in this study, a comparison was made following these two methods.

Objective: To compare anesthetic types regarding feto-maternal outcomes. Determine the effect of anesthesia type on neonate APGAR score, determine the effect of anesthesia type on the material's hemodynamic stability, and determine the effect of induction time on neonate APGAR score. Materials and Methods: This study is a clinical trial and 60 term pregnant women …

The Influence Of Provision Of Public Services On Tax Compliance In Smes: Mediating Role Of Tax Morale, Menchidia Rwabunywenge, Mariamu Nchimbi, Said Juma Suluo

Business Management Review

This study investigates the relationship between the provision of public services, tax morale, and tax compliance in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Tanzania. A cross-sectional research design was employed, using a sample of 479 SMEs from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with data collected through self-administered questionnaires. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that the provision of public services has a significant positive effect on tax compliance, with tax morale acting as a partial mediator in this relationship. This suggests that taxpayers’ perceptions of the quality of public services influence their intrinsic motivation …

The Empowerment Of Consumers With Disabilities: The Role Of Self-Esteem, Accessibility, And Access To Information, Megawati Simanjuntak, Fauzia Rahmi, Santi Utami Dewi

ASEAN Marketing Journal

Consumer empowerment in Indonesia remains relatively low, particularly for individuals with disabilities. This study investigates the roles of accessibility, self-esteem, and information access in empowering disabled consumers. A total of 100 participants with physical disabilities, aged 17 and older, were surveyed regarding their online and offline purchasing experiences. Data were collected via an online questionnaire and analyzed using SEM PLS. Results indicate that self-esteem and information accessibility significantly influence the empowerment of consumers with disabilities, with the Disabled Consumer Empowerment Index categorized as "not empowered." Notably, the knowledge dimension received the lowest scores based on a traffic-light system. These findings …

Journal of Indonesian Tourism and Policy Studies

ABSTRACT

Indonesia is an archipelagic country that has many marine tourism destinations. One of the most popular marine tourism is Maratua. This study aims to find out what are the attractions of Maratua that make Maratua the most popular tour. In addition, it also aims to find out the marketing strategy and constraints on the Maratua tour package. The research method used is qualitative research with data collection techniques, namely observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results of this study reveal that the main attraction in Maratua is the marine biota and its resorts which are similar to the Maldives. …

The Homecoming Readings On Theater Inside Syria, Mona Merhi Dec 2024

The Homecoming Readings On Theater Inside Syria, Mona Merhi

Regards

This research focuses on theater inside Syria during the decade following the Syrian revolution. It examines the theatrical aesthetics of prominent experiences while attempting to understand the impact of everyday life challenges and the internal conflicts on Syrian theater. I argue that similar challenges may create post-conflict theatrical forms that are informed by a certain sense of allegiance to the city and the art form of the stage. While borrowing Diana Taylor’s concept of multiple allegiances and strategies of doubling and staying the same, the present scholarship looks into the decision of staying inside Syria as both an aesthetic framework …

Defining The Undefined: Exploring The Concept Of Situationship Among Filipino Adolescents, Cassy Franchezka D. Deniega, Trisha Carrie A. Revillo, Chrizelle M. Villanueva

Sinaya: A Philippine Journal for Senior High School Teachers and Students

Situationship, a term that has gained significant attention through media exposure, has become increasingly common in contemporary dating culture. Despite its growing prevalence, there remains a need for a clear and contextualized meaning of situationship, especially among Filipino adolescents. This study seeks to provide a definitive and nuanced definition of situationship, contextualize this emerging concept in modern dating, and contribute to the existing literature on relationship dynamics. Focus group discussions anchored on a descriptive phenomenological research design were conducted among 15 Filipino adolescents aged 18 to 20 years old and were considered to fall under the late adolescence group. Participants …

Molecular Mechanism Governing The Plasticity Of Use-Dependent Spike Broadening In Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons, Tyler D. Alexander, Stephen Tymanskyj, Kyle J. Kennedy, Leonard K. Kaczmarek, Manuel Covarrubias Dec 2024

Molecular Mechanism Governing The Plasticity Of Use-Dependent Spike Broadening In Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons, Tyler D. Alexander, Stephen Tymanskyj, Kyle J. Kennedy, Leonard K. Kaczmarek, Manuel Covarrubias

SKMC Student Presentations and Publications

Use-dependent spike broadening (UDSB) results from inactivation of the voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels that regulate the repolarization of the action potential. However, the specific signaling and molecular processes that modulate UDSB have remained elusive. Here, we applied an adeno-associated viral vector approach and dynamic clamping to conclusively demonstrate how multisite phosphorylation of the N-terminal inactivation domain (NTID) of the Kv3.4 channel modulates UDSB in rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. The Kv3.4 phosphonull variant promotes slow recovery from inactivation, cumulative inactivation, and UDSB. In contrast, the Kv3.4 phosphomimic variant promotes fast recovery from inactivation and robust resistance to cumulative inactivation …

Generative Ai Applied To Aac For Aphasia: A Pilot Study Of Aphasia-Gpt, Dallin J. Bailey, Francesca Herget, Derek Hansen, Forrest Burton, Grant Pitt, Tyson Harmon, David Wingate

Faculty Publications

Background

People with aphasia may be supported by augmentative and alternative communication systems, but further development is necessary to improve the communication support such systems provide. Advances in artificial intelligence methods of natural language processing may provide improved support for people with aphasia, but development and testing involving people with aphasia is critical.

Aims

The purpose of the study is to describe the development and pilot testing of a new AAC system for people with aphasia, a mobile web app named Aphasia-GPT.

Methods & Procedures

Aphasia-GPT is specifically designed to receive spoken input from a user with aphasia; it then …
