Tools For Clinical Pharmacists To Identify Medications That Can Cause Drug-Induced Cognitive Impairment: A Systematic Review, Jacob Stanton, Michael R. Gionfriddo, Gail B. Rattinger, Yuan Fang, Mia E. Lussier Dec 2024

Tools For Clinical Pharmacists To Identify Medications That Can Cause Drug-Induced Cognitive Impairment: A Systematic Review, Jacob Stanton, Michael R. Gionfriddo, Gail B. Rattinger, Yuan Fang, Mia E. Lussier

Pharmacy Faculty Scholarship

Cognitive impairment affects around 19% of community-dwelling older adults in the United States. Pharmacists can play a significant role in identifying and deprescribing cognitive-impairing medications through cognitive-focused medication reviews or as part of comprehensive medication management. Multiple tools exist to help pharmacists and other practitioners identify these medications, yet a comprehensive description of these tools has not been undertaken. We searched EBSCO MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and PsycInfo from inception to August 4, 2023, using search terms relative to medications and cognition. Studies were included if they detailed a tool to assess the cognitive burden of a medication regimen. Abstracts …

The U.S.-China Chip War: Using International Relations Theories To Explain The Reasons Behind Technological Decoupling, Nolan Tavares

Honors Projects in Politics, Law, and Society

Technology has transformed the world with the help of increasing advancements in semiconductor technology. This results in countries seeking a steady supply of semiconductors globally. This thesis investigates why the United States and China have implemented a mix of technological "decoupling" policies to prioritize semiconductors. The theoretical research for this thesis utilizes international relations perspectives and concepts as a framework to examine the root causes behind these policies. By using qualitative text analysis to code sources based on international relations theories, a series of direct evidence is presented to show the causes behind these policies. Furthermore, the concepts and direct …

How The Tax Cuts And Jobs Act Changed The Distribution Of Itemized Deductions, John Nardolillo Jr. Dec 2024

How The Tax Cuts And Jobs Act Changed The Distribution Of Itemized Deductions, John Nardolillo Jr.

Honors Projects in Accounting

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 introduced significant changes to itemized deductions and the standard deduction, impacting taxpayers across income levels. This study utilizes data from the Statistics of Income to examine changes in tax progressivity and vertical tax equity between 2017 and 2020. The analysis finds that higher-income earners retained a considerably greater benefit from itemizing under the TCJA, indicating a decrease in progressivity post-2017. These results suggest a widening disparity in the tax benefit distribution of itemized deductions, as lower-income groups benefited less from itemizing. The study's insights provide a basis for policymakers as they …

The Effect Of Variable Learning Contexts On Novel Word Retention In Adults, Emily A. Badoni Dec 2024

The Effect Of Variable Learning Contexts On Novel Word Retention In Adults, Emily A. Badoni

Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the impact of decontextualized learning on memory recall and retention within virtual reality (VR) environments. Forty-six healthy young adult participants, both male and female, were randomly assigned to either a consistent VR learning condition (n = 23) or a diverse VR learning condition (n = 23). Both groups were exposed to the same set of 30 nonwords and their definitions across three learning phases. The participants in the consistent condition remained in the same VR environment throughout the study, while the participants in the diverse condition experienced three different VR environments. Immediate and delayed post-tests were conducted …

Physics-Informed Transfer Learning For Process Control, Samuel Arce Munoz Dec 2024

Physics-Informed Transfer Learning For Process Control, Samuel Arce Munoz

Theses and Dissertations

In the realm of process control, managing complex systems with limited prior knowledge presents significant challenges, particularly in environments where traditional mechanistic models are either unavailable or computationally prohibitive. This work explores the integration of deep transfer learning with system identification and Model Predictive Control (MPC) to develop control strategies that are both data-efficient and computationally streamlined. Initially, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks are employed to create approximate MPC controllers by leveraging transfer learning from a source system to a target system, demonstrating that transfer learning can achieve comparable performance to traditional MPC methods with reduced training data. Building upon …

Conditional Cooperation With Longer Memory, Nikoleta E. Glynatsi, Ethan Akin, Martin A. Nowak, Christian Hilbe Dec 2024

Conditional Cooperation With Longer Memory, Nikoleta E. Glynatsi, Ethan Akin, Martin A. Nowak, Christian Hilbe

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Direct reciprocity is a wide-spread mechanism for the evolution of cooperation. In repeated interactions, players can condition their behavior on previous outcomes. A well-known approach is given by reactive strategies, which respond to the coplayer's previous move. Here, we extend reactive strategies to longer memories. A reactive-n strategy takes into account the sequence of the last n moves of the coplayer. A reactive-n counting strategy responds to how often the coplayer cooperated during the last n rounds. We derive an algorithm to identify the partner strategies within these strategy sets. Partner strategies are those that ensure mutual cooperation without exploitation. …

Resistance/Rise: Iranian Student Activism In The Late 1970s Us, Will Teague

History Faculty Publications and Presentations

In the late 1970s Iranian student activists in the United States worked to educate the American public on the history of the US-Iranian relationship and the long-term consequences in Iran of the 1953 CIA-sponsored coup that placed Mohammad Reza Pahlavi on the Iranian throne. The students directly challenged local and state governments to respect freedoms of speech, press, and assembly, and pushed President Jimmy Carter to keep his promise of injecting human rights into American foreign policy. Iranians studying in the US were not monolithic in thought, but they shared the common goal of liberating Iran from Pahlavi’s despotic rule …

Jefferson Health - Northeast Papers (formerly Aria Health Papers)

INTRODUCTION: The degree of improvement in serum creatinine (SCr) has previously been suggested as a sensitive indicator of treatment response in patients with hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI), while HRS reversal remains the primary endpoint in clinical trials.

METHODS: A total of ≥ 30% SCr improvement was analyzed as an exploratory prespecified endpoint in the CONFIRM trial. In this post hoc analysis, intent-to-treat population data from three Phase 3 studies (OT-0401, REVERSE, and CONFIRM) conducted in North America in patients with HRS-AKI were pooled to assess the incidence of > 30% improvement in SCr and its association with clinical outcomes.

RESULTS: …

Adapting For Accessibility: How Secondary Humanities Teachers Modify Open Educational Resources Using The Universal Design For Learning Framework, Christine Nick

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine how secondary humanities teachers modify Open Educational Resources (OERs) to align with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. Originally developed to democratize access to educational content, OERs have become widely used across K–12 settings in the U.S., particularly following initiatives such as the Common Core standards and the U.S. Department of Education’s #GoOpen Project. Despite the growing adoption of OERs, limited research has addressed how teachers adapt these materials to meet the diverse needs of their students, especially through the lens of accessibility and inclusivity. Using the UDL framework, this descriptive …
