Act For Ocd: An Example Of Act And Values-Based Exposures, Leila K. Capel, Michael P. Twohig
Act For Ocd: An Example Of Act And Values-Based Exposures, Leila K. Capel, Michael P. Twohig
Psychology Faculty Publications
Exposure exercises as seen in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) are standard in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In the last two decades, additional research has been conducted on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and the ways that exposure exercises are conducted from an ACT model. Empirical support for conducting exposures from an ACT model exists. Group level statistics suggest that ACT with ACT-based exposures is as effective as traditional ERP or CBT. A key component of ACT and values-based exposures is the focus on teaching psychological flexibility to allow for engagement with values-based …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The cocrystal or supramolecular complex between Cu(II) complex of salicylic acid and uncoordinated piracetam has been synthesized. Its structure is characterized by element analysis, FT-IR, UV-Visible spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Spectroscopic methods confirm the formation of the metal complex while X-ray crystallography establishes molecular and crystal structure of the obtained compound. Binuclear Cu(II) complex of salicylic acid (complex molecule) is in the form of “Chinese lantern” and it interacts with uncoordinated piracetam by complicated system of H-bonds. However, according to the Hirshfeld surface analysis a contribution of the O•••H/H•••O contacts is only 24.9% while H•••H and H•••C/C•••H contacts account for …

The Gestalt Effect Of Memory Poetry: A Response To The Cognitive Seriousness Of Literature, John R. Hart
The Gestalt Effect Of Memory Poetry: A Response To The Cognitive Seriousness Of Literature, John R. Hart
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This project challenges the Anti-Cognitivist position that literature may have plenty to say about the world within a text, yet literature cannot contribute to knowledge outside the text. Drawing on the work of Cognitivists and others, I argue that at least one subgenre of literature—memory poetry—can deepen, enrich, and broaden areas or understanding. Indeed, there are cases where understanding may be so lacking as to only allow for us recognize how much we do not know about an experience, such as the experience of a post-traumatic flashback, at a more visceral level than the DSM-V can achieve in a clinical …

Despite the benefits of Advance directives, approximately only 1 in 3 U.S adults have documented advance directives. In medical school and residency, learners are often not taught or given very brief information on conducting end-of-life planning conversations with patients. Due to this deficiency, some institutions have conducted advance directive workshops but not many have been both palliative fellow and resident led, though some have been led by a geriatric fellow. Therefore, we approached advance directives with a resident and palliative fellow-led workshop. We aimed to develop and conduct a workshop on advance directives to assess feasibility and effectiveness in raising …
Cmsi Translations #11: Mid-Life Overhaul And Upgrade Of The Type 052c Guided Missile Destroyer, Ju Lang
Cmsi Translations #11: Mid-Life Overhaul And Upgrade Of The Type 052c Guided Missile Destroyer, Ju Lang
CMSI Translations
The construction of the Type 052C guided missile destroyer took a long time, and it was experimental in the sense of "taking small steps for rapid progress" (xiao bu kuai pao). In fact, it was also the engineering prototype of the standard fleet destroyer Type 052D. The first and second Type 052C ships were launched in April and October 2003, respectively. They were the most advanced guided missile destroyers of the PLAN at that time, but the subsequent four ships of the same type were launched in October 2010, July 2011, and January and July 2012, respectively.

In this holdover proceeding based on nuisance, the tenant moved for discovery regarding the landlord's allegations of 17 incidents of objectionable conduct. The court granted the motion, finding that the tenant demonstrated "ample need" for the information to adequately defend herself. The court emphasized the importance of discovery in nuisance cases to ensure a fair trial and allowed the tenant to obtain information such as the identities of witnesses and the basis for the landlord's knowledge of the alleged incidents.
Mechanism Of Impaired Cd8+ T Cell Activation During Ross River Virus Infection, Christopher Bullock
Mechanism Of Impaired Cd8+ T Cell Activation During Ross River Virus Infection, Christopher Bullock
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Ross River virus (RRV) is a mosquito transmitted virus endemic to Australia that infects humans and causes acute symptoms of rash, fever, myalgia, and fatigue. Although systemic viral infection subsides within a few weeks, joint pain lingers in many patients for months. Active viral replication is not readily detected in this chronic phase, although persistent viral RNA has been found in the synovial fluid of patients. This can be studied in mice, which can be productively infected with RRV when inoculated in the foot. Like in humans, in the chronic phase of disease, viral RNA is still present in the …
A Study Of Thomas Oord’S Open Theism And Theodicy, Olaoluwa Apata
A Study Of Thomas Oord’S Open Theism And Theodicy, Olaoluwa Apata
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Open theism’s opposition to the traditional Christian view and its rejection of the classical definitions of God’s attributes, character, and divine impassibility continually creates a point of contention between the two worldviews. As one of the leading voices in this movement, Thomas Oord offers what can be described as a refined argument in support of Open theism in contemporary theological and philosophical studies. His open theism holds that due to God’s kenotic act and uncontrolling love, his ability to know the future is limited and he cannot prevent evil. Oord introduces his version of open theism with the goal of …

The Soil Test: Facilitating Increased Receptivity To Spiritual Formation In A Large Church Through Education, Motivation, And Resources, Rosemary Moore
The Soil Test: Facilitating Increased Receptivity To Spiritual Formation In A Large Church Through Education, Motivation, And Resources, Rosemary Moore
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Decades of recent research and writing about spiritual formation and discipleship assume that there will be growth in spiritual maturity if churches have more models and biblical information. However, the literature addresses the wrong problem; it presupposes that the church is ready for spiritual formation. In their efforts to facilitate it, those trying to help the church are like the farmer who sows seed onto unprepared soil. Good seeds, such as discipleship groups, are sown into the soil of the church without paying attention to whether the soil can produce a harvest. The project posited that five conditions should be …

A Quantitative Approach To Determining The Reduction Rate Of Cassette Labeling Errors Within A Surgical Pathology Diagnostic Laboratory, Kiaya Symonné Pruitt
A Quantitative Approach To Determining The Reduction Rate Of Cassette Labeling Errors Within A Surgical Pathology Diagnostic Laboratory, Kiaya Symonné Pruitt
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Cassette labeling errors within a surgical pathology laboratory can affect patient safety variously, including invalid patient results. In order to diminish these errors, automated systems have been placed in surgical pathology laboratories. However, there is no current research on reducing cassette labeling errors within a surgical pathology laboratory that possesses a partial automated system without a LIS connection. Therefore, the current study aimed to determine if there is a statistically significant reduction in pathology cassette labeling errors during different phases of the barcode system (an automated system) implementation for cassette creation. A nonexperimental correlational design was used for the current …
An Investigation Into The Redemptive Uses Of Technology To Help Churches Reach The Lost And Make Disciples, Scott W. Sherman
An Investigation Into The Redemptive Uses Of Technology To Help Churches Reach The Lost And Make Disciples, Scott W. Sherman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
There is a compelling rationale for investing the time and energy to develop a successful digital discipleship program. There is a mandate to reach the lost. There is a command to make disciples of all nations. Theologically there is significant and sufficient biblical evidence that discipleship and can happen remotely. Evidentially, Christian digital community has occurred successfully and with levels of engagement needed for spiritual accountability and growth. Following a non-empirical mixed methodology based on Bernard Lonergan for evidence gathering and subsequently incorporating a redemptive Augustinian methodology akin to The City of God, we have fulfilled the purpose of being …
The Impact Of Policing On Female Police Officer’S Parenting Styles, Debbie Michelle Chambers
The Impact Of Policing On Female Police Officer’S Parenting Styles, Debbie Michelle Chambers
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of female police officers with children in rural Georgia. For years, women have been proving themselves in this profession only to face gender inequality, discrimination, harassment including physical, emotional, and sexual, and skepticism from the community. Despite these barriers, females have achieved high-ranking positions in local and state agencies and federal law enforcement. This achievement has come with a price that could impact how the female officer parents her children. Several studies have been conducted on a variety of factors impacting the female police officer, such as rank, position, …
Implementation Strategies To Improve Medication Adherence In Adolescents (Aged 13 To 17 Years) With Antipsychotic Induced Weight Gain: Educational Toolkit For Clinicians, Joy Asike
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Nonadherence to medication leads to relapses of condition, frequent hospitalization and poor outcomes. Although antipsychotics are effective in the management of mental disorders and psychosis, the side effects, especially weight gain negatively influence medication compliance. Anti-psychotics related to weight gain is one of the most concerning treatment-emergent side leading to a great burden on patients, parents, and clinicians. Obesity and antipsychotic-related weight gain increase the risks to short- and long-term physical health problems such as metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension. Evidence has shown that there is generally low guideline adherence regarding the monitoring of antipsychotics, especially in children and adolescents. …

With the aging of society, the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a common cause of death, has been increasing. Transcription factor EB (TFEB), the master transcriptional regulator of the autophagy/lysosomal pathway, is regarded as a promising candidate for preventing various age-related diseases. However, whether TFEB in the proximal tubules plays a significant role in elderly patients with CKD remains unknown. First, we found that nuclear TFEB localization in proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) declined with age in both mice and humans. Next, we generated PTEC-specific Tfeb-deficient mice and bred them for up to 24 months. We found that TFEB …

DNA methylation, as exemplified by cytosine-C5 methylation in mammals and adenine-N6 methylation in bacteria, is a key epigenetic process. Developing non-nucleoside inhibitors to cause DNA hypomethylation is crucial for treating various conditions without the toxicities associated with existing cytidine-based hypomethylating agents. This study characterized fifteen quinoline-based analogs, particularly compounds with additions like a methylamine (9) or methylpiperazine (11), which demonstrate similar low micromolar inhibitory potency against human DNMT1 and Clostridioides difficile CamA. These compounds (9 and 11) intercalate into CamA-bound DNA via the minor groove, causing a conformational shift that moves the catalytic domain away from the DNA. This study …
Comradeship, Remolding, And Rectification In Norman Wilwayco's Gerilya, Laurence Marvin S. Castillo
Comradeship, Remolding, And Rectification In Norman Wilwayco's Gerilya, Laurence Marvin S. Castillo
Kritika Kultura
In this article, I examine the representation of the long-running Maoist national democratic (NatDem) revolution in Norman Wilwayco’s award-winning novel Gerilya (2008), which centers on the uneasy, often violent encounters between petty bourgeois revolutionaries from the city and revolutionary peasants in the countryside. By engaging with the issues of revolutionary errors, remolding, and rectification, I explore how the novel’s predominantly unflattering depiction of revolutionary guerrillas track the difficulties that underpin the process of revolutionary remolding and the formation of comradely relations. Such portrayal conceives of the revolution as a complex social process marked by the tension between, on the one …
Transhistorical Connectivities Around The Indian Ocean: Western Colonialism And Climate Change In Amtav Ghosh's The Nutmeg's Curse, Maria-Sabina Draga Alexandru
Transhistorical Connectivities Around The Indian Ocean: Western Colonialism And Climate Change In Amtav Ghosh's The Nutmeg's Curse, Maria-Sabina Draga Alexandru
Kritika Kultura
This article argues that Amitav Ghosh’s non-fiction book The Nutmeg’s Curse illustrates the ways in which the proto-global entanglement of chaotic colonial forces, which proliferates across space and time, has played an important part in the current climate change. Ghosh imagines the Indian Ocean as a melting pot of rhizomatic energies of imperial aggression and local resistance, but also of new emerging life, with the agency of nature playing a very important part in the latter. I aim to show this in a combined Deleuzian, postcolonial, and ecocritical reading, with elements of chaos theory meant to provide possible interpretations to …

"Such A Nice Little Place": Rhizomatic Partnership In Nayomi Munaweera's Island Of A Thousand Mirrors, Isabel Alonso-Breto
Kritika Kultura
This article provides a rhizomatic partnership reading of diasporic Sri Lankan author Nayomi Munaweera’s novel Island of a Thousand Mirrors. The novel is analyzed in the light of the bio-cultural partnership-domination lens developed by Riane Eisler and Douglas P. Fry and underscores the fact that the rhizomatic quality of Indoceanic cultures can be traced even when it appears to be severely in jeopardy. Carrying out an analysis of different forms of domination and partnership models in the narrative thread, this article defends that the novel resolves that it is only outside of Sri Lanka, in diasporic territory, that the devastating …

Gurnah's Men: Rethinking Muslim Masculinities In The Indian Ocean World, Felicity Hand
Kritika Kultura
This article explores how Abdulrazak Gurnah illustrates the varieties of Muslim masculinity in the Indian Ocean world through an analysis of two of his youthful characters, Hassan Omar, from his debut novel Memory of Departure and Salim Yahya, from his more recent Gravel Heart. Both young men find themselves pitted against a more traditional male role which stifles them while, at the same time, encourages them to envisage a more fluid understanding of what it means to be a man in a predominantly Muslim society like Zanzibar. The fissures in the relationship that Hassan and Salim have with their fathers …

Located in East Asia, Taiwan is an island off the southeast part of Mainland China. After martial law was lifted in 1987, one of the ways by which the long-suppressed Taiwanese Indigenous communities can make themselves be seen has been writing in Chinese, but in a style that intentionally mixes Chinese with their ethnic mother tongues. Accordingly, this mixed literary style brings about great challenges for the English translators of Taiwan Indigenous literature. This paper deals with the English translation problems of Syaman Rapongan’s works against the background of an ongoing dispute over “domestication” and “foreignization” in translation studies, focusing …

From Hostesses To Working Girls: Sex Workers In Late 1970s Philippine Cinema, Joel David
From Hostesses To Working Girls: Sex Workers In Late 1970s Philippine Cinema, Joel David
Kritika Kultura
The depiction of morally wayward women characters as protagonists in Philippine cinema emerged in parallel with the trend in presenting gangsters and so-called bad boys in the late 1950s. Drawing influence from the spread of the French New Wave and its transformation of American cinema into the New Hollywood, the Filipino counterparts (of both genders) required comeuppances that were either tragic or reformist. One other tendency was to provide confederates for these characters, to the point where duos or, more often, groups would dominate the narrative. This paper will look at the possible reasons for the narrative strategies used by …
