Tcad Structure Input File Generation Using Large Language Model, Le Minh Long Nguyen, Albert Lu, Hiu Yung Wong

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

In this paper, we study the possibility of using Large Language Models (LLMs) to create Technology Computer-Aided-Design (TCAD) structure generation input files. LLMs are machine learning models trained on vast amounts of text data from the Web and are designed to understand, generate, and interact with humans through natural languages such as English. However, unlike programming languages with abundant training examples on the Web, TCAD examples are scarce. In this work, by using TCAD Sentaurus Structure Editor (SSE) as an example, 7000 nanowire data are generated to fine-tune open-source models (Llama 2 and 3) to obtain chatbots that can generate …

Differential Expression Analysis Of Treatment Resistant And Treatment Susceptible Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Paired With Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, Kinzie Bailey Jan 2024

Differential Expression Analysis Of Treatment Resistant And Treatment Susceptible Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Paired With Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, Kinzie Bailey

Theses

Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium which causes gonorrhea, is a public health threat as recognized by the CDC due to the risk of untreatable gonorrhea due to the high prevalence of resistance to antibiotics in the gonococcal population [1]. Current screening methods for resistance to antibiotics for clinical infections may take up to 2 days to produce results, which could result in delays in treatment, unnecessary follow-up appointments, inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions, and overall poor treatment outcomes [2]. In this study, we utilize RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to characterize the expression patterns of resistant and susceptible strains of N. gonorrhoeae. Here, we look …

Machine Learning, Fuzzy Logic And Zero Trust-Based Quishing Prevention Solution For Android Smartphones, Felix William Jan 2024

Machine Learning, Fuzzy Logic And Zero Trust-Based Quishing Prevention Solution For Android Smartphones, Felix William

Theses

QR code phishing, or "quishing," exploits the widespread adoption of QR codes to embed malicious URLs that lead users to phishing sites or initiate malware downloads. Unlike traditional phishing methods, QR phishing is uniquely deceptive, leveraging the inherent trust and convenience associated with QR codes while bypassing standard detection mechanisms. This thesis presents the SEQR scanner, a novel solution tailored to detect and prevent QR phishing attacks, specifically focusing on Android platforms. By integrating multiple detection mechanisms—machine learning prediction, fuzzy logic algorithm, and third-party blacklisting APIs—the solution effectively identifies malicious QR codes with precision. A zero-trust-based mechanism is implemented alongside …

Various categories and variations of LDAP queries that mimic real attack situations, as well as legitimate benign queries representing typical LDAP operations, are included in the dataset to further classify them based on user roles. Four different machine learning algorithms, including XGBoost, Logistic Regression, Support …

Florescence, Evan D. Jaccodine Jan 2024

Florescence, Evan D. Jaccodine

Theses

Florescence is a photographic project that provokes conversation between mediums, methods, and attitudes in art and design. Starting as grainy, screened Risograph prints mounted into custom wood frames, the uniformity of mechanical reproduction is distorted by handmade craft elements. The images examine the materiality of making as part of the message they produce; they are both eclectic handmade objects and mass-produced products. These pictures intend to communicate an idea like an advertisement, except the message, meaning, or intention isn’t clear. I am interested in the moment when the viewer comes close enough to the image to see the prints' poor …

Tracked Gulls Help Identify Potential Zones Of Interaction Between Whales And Shipping Traffic, Megan A. Cimino, Heather Welch, Jarrod A. Santora, David Kroodsma, Elliott L. Hazen, Steven J. Bograd, Pete Warzybok, Jaime Jahncke, Scott A. Shaffer

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Seabird-vessel interactions are often studied through the lens of fisheries bycatch, but seabirds encounter many watercraft types. Western Gulls Larus occidentalis breeding on the Farallon Islands (California, USA) have a foraging domain that encompasses both shipping lanes and productive fishing grounds, resulting in ample opportunities for vessel encounters. Previous research showed that these Western Gulls can serve as ecosystem indicators because their foraging behavior is linked to ocean prey conditions, and because their foraging grounds overlap with that of Humpback Whales Megaptera novaeangliae, which can make prey accessible. Because ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear are concerns for whales …

Use Or Not: A Qualitative Study On The User Adoption And Abandonment Of Voice Shopping With Smart Speakers, Jiahe Lan, Yu Chen, Zheng Yan

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The recent advances in smart speakers impel the emergence and prevalence of voice shopping - placing orders on voice assistants. Previous work has studied user acceptance of voice shopping and the factors influencing users' experience of voice shopping. However, despite the growing interest in the use of voice shopping, little is known about the limited usage or abandonment of voice shopping. In this paper, we address this research gap through a qualitative study of 43 users of Tmall Genie, a smart speaker popular in China. We found that participants are willing to make low-involvement purchases via voice shopping. However, after …

After publication of our paper Reconfigurations in brain networks upon awakening from slow wave sleep: Interventions and implications in neural communication, we noticed an error in our condition labels that required some revision of figures and text and some new interpretations throughout the manuscript. The error was a consequence of the double-blind nature of the original experimentation which contained two interventions: (1) a blue-enriched light intervention, as originally mentioned; and (2) an olfactory odorant condition. In review of previous analyses and presentations of the data, there was a time when non-descriptive labels (e.g., “A”, “B”) were accidentally swapped, indicating the …

A Comparative Multivariate Analysis Of Var And Deep Learning-Based Models For Forecasting Volatile Time Series Data, Saroj Gopali, Sima Siami-Namini, Faranak Abri, Akbar Siami Namin

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The existing literature on forecasting time series data is primarily based on univariate analysis and techniques such as Univariate Autoregressive (UAR), Univariate Moving Average (UMA), Simple Exponential Smoothing (SES), deep learning models, and, most notably, univariate Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) built based on univariate variable where the next lag of time series is leveraged for forecasting the next cycle of data. This paper takes this line of research to the next level by focusing on forecasting time series data based on “multivariate” modeling and analysis. To have a better insight of the performance of various deep learning-based models when multivariate …

Assessment Of Digital Collaboration Skills, Esperanza Huerta, Ana Lidia Franzoni Velázquez, Scott Jensen

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This exploratory study proposes a methodology for assessing digital collaboration skills based on the students' actual behavior. Students' comments using a digital collaboration tool during a one-month long project were manually coded. This methodology is not context specific and can be used across different domains. This assessment contrasts with self-reported measures in which students rate themselves as already possessing collaboration skills. Finally, the study explores the use of generative AI to automatically code student's comments to alleviate the labor-intensive process that coding requires and to enable scalability in coding data.

Is Knowledge Management (Finally) Extractive? – Fuller’S Argument Revisited In The Age Of Ai, Norman Mooradian

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Aim/Purpose The rise of modern artificial intelligence (AI), in particular, machine learning (ML), has provided new opportunities and directions for knowledge management (KM). A central question for the future of KM is whether it will be dominated by an automation strategy that replaces knowledge work or whether it will support a knowledge-enablement strategy that enhances knowledge work and uplifts knowledge workers. This paper addresses this question by re-examining and updating a critical argument against KM by the sociologist of science Steve Fuller (2002), who held that KM was extractive and exploitative from its origins. Background This paper re-examines Fuller’s argument …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

A number of nearby dwarf galaxies have globular cluster (GC) candidates that require spectroscopic confirmation. Here we present Keck telescope spectra for 15 known GCs and GC candidates that may be associated with a host dwarf galaxy, and an additional 3 GCs in the halo of M31 that are candidates for accretion from a now disrupted dwarf galaxy. We confirm 6 star clusters (of intermediate-to-old age) to be associated with NGC 247. The vast bulk of its GC system remains to be studied spectroscopically. We also confirm the GC candidates in F8D1 and DDO190, finding both to be young star …

Theses

This dissertation aims to study the underlying physics of anomalous transport of emulsions in porous media and quantify the role of droplet-pore and droplet-droplet interactions in transport in porous media experimentally. The complexities of this problem arise from the network heterogeneity, correlations between the pores across the medium, interfacial properties of the fluids, and the correlations between the pore scale dynamics and system-level transport. This dissertation presents significant advancements in the study of emulsion dynamics within two-dimensional porous media through the development of innovative image analysis and tracking methods. These advancements include precise detection and tracking of deformable objects, which …

Optical Differentiation Wavefront Sensor With Pixelated Filters Toward High Performance Metrology, Biswa R. Swain Jan 2024

Optical Differentiation Wavefront Sensor With Pixelated Filters Toward High Performance Metrology, Biswa R. Swain

Theses

Freeform optics enables enhanced system performance and packaging due to the high degrees of design freedom they provide, but characterizing these optics remains challenging. Phase measurement of an optical wave is essential in the metrology of optical components, adaptive optics, and laser beam quality assessment. The Shack-Hartman Wavefront Sensors are limited by their dynamic range and resolution due to lenslet operation. Interferometric-method-based adaptive nulling requires high-performance wavefront sensor, and coordinate-scanning-based measurements are time consuming. We investigate and develop an Optical Differentiation Wavefront Sensor (ODWS) based on binary pixelated filter that enables high dynamic range, high resolution freeform metrology. Analysis of …

Focus groups were conducted with clinicians receiving CritCom reports in both …

The Future Of Unfair Terms Regulation In Commercial Contracts, Marcus Moore Jan 2024

The Future Of Unfair Terms Regulation In Commercial Contracts, Marcus Moore

All Faculty Publications

What is the future of unfair contract terms regulation? To date, regimes of unfair terms regulation have shared several key operational features, but have diverged on the question of the scope of regulation: some regimes focus on consumer contracts or exemption clauses, while other regimes include all commercial standard form contracts. Both domestic and transnational commerce would be well served by broader harmonisation of unfair terms regulation. But divergence on the basic question of the scope of regulation has hindered such harmonisation. Some important recent developments suggest a possible trend towards regulation of a scope which includes all standard form …

Fuzzy Similarity Analysis Of Effective Training Samples To Improve Machine Learning Estimations Of Water Quality Parameters Using Sentinel-2 Remote Sensing Data, Alireza Taheri Dehkordi, Mohammad Javad Valadan Zoej, Ali Mehran, Mohsen Jafari, Amir Masoud Chegoonian

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Continuous monitoring of water quality parameters (WQPs) is crucial due to the global degradation of water quality, primarily caused by climate change and population growth. Typically, machine learning (ML) models are employed to retrieve WQPs, but they require a large amount of training samples to accurately capture the data relationships. Even with sufficient training data, discrepancies still exist between values of predicted and in-situ WQPs. This study proposes a fuzzy similarity analysis (FSA) technique to enhance ML estimates of WQPs by using the prediction errors in effective training samples. The method was successfully applied to retrieve turbidity (Turb) and specific …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The adaptive mechanical properties of soft and fibrous biological materials are relevant to their functionality. The emergence of the macroscopic response of these materials to external stress and intrinsic cell traction from local deformations of their structural components is not well understood. Here, we investigate the nonlinear elastic behavior of blood clots by combining microscopy, rheology, and an elastic network model that incorporates the stretching, bending, and buckling of constituent fibrin fibers. By inhibiting fibrin cross-linking in blood clots, we observe an anomalous softening regime in the macroscopic shear response as well as a reduction in platelet-induced clot contractility. Our …

Drug escapes due to mutations in the HIV-1 virus genome have been a global menace over the last few decades. A major focus in dealing with this issue has revolved around taking advantage of the structural view of the virus to investigate how these mutations affect target drugs. The role of comparative molecular dynamics (MD), which provides valuable insights on motions involved in the functional interactions and dynamic fluctuations of the atoms in the amino acid residues on the protein chains. Although less explored than structural analyses of drug-target interactions, this study provides substantial and critical information needed to fully …

Incorporating Point Of Care Ultrasound In Cardiac Arrest And Pulseless Electrical Activity, Zayneb H. Ghazle Jan 2024

Incorporating Point Of Care Ultrasound In Cardiac Arrest And Pulseless Electrical Activity, Zayneb H. Ghazle

Theses

For decades, cardiac arrests have had a high mortality and morbidity rate despite medical interventions. Statistically, shockable rhythms (ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia) have had a better prognosis than non-shockable rhythms, which includes pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and asystole1. The reversible mechanical causes of PEA and the role of point-of-care cardiac ultrasound (POCUS) in their diagnosis and management will be discussed. This paper also focuses on the appearance and interpretation of these sonographic findings in order to guide clinicians in their medical management, goal of returning spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and estimating patient prognosis.
