Quantum And Bio-Inspired Self-Healing Networks, Na Dec 2024

Quantum And Bio-Inspired Self-Healing Networks, Na

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes techniques to reduce the costs and inefficiencies associated with providing redundancy in networks by using self-healing network architectures. The techniques feature quantum-inspired routing algorithms (QIRA) and bio-inspired self-healing (BISHA). QIRA leverages quantum principles to concurrently explore multiple paths and to share information about network conditions through quantum entanglement. BISHA leverages cellular automata to mediate inter-device communication, such that when a failure is detected, the device is isolated and information about the failure is communicated to neighboring devices. The neighboring devices collaborate to reconfigure the network topology and reroute data traffic around the failed component. Machine learning algorithms, …

Data-Driven Design For Thermal Management And Control In Datacenters, Na Dec 2024

Data-Driven Design For Thermal Management And Control In Datacenters, Na

Defensive Publications Series

Design of thermal controllers for datacenter machines has traditionally relied on heuristics and trial-and-error testing, resulting in lengthy design times and possibly suboptimal controller parameters. This disclosure describes techniques that leverage control and linear-system theory to build models that enable the software simulation of thermal controllers used in datacenters. Per the techniques, test data is captured from a real machine and used to create a reduced-order model of the machine and its thermal controller. A transfer function of the reduced-order model is obtained using linear system theory. Control theory is leveraged to determine the appropriate controller parameters for the machine …

Through sharing expertise, jointly producing events, and developing longer-term strategies together, these collaborative efforts have enhanced outreach of Cal Poly Pomona Special Collections and Archives and associated scholarly activities, enriched perspectives on equine cultural heritage, and facilitated innovative …

Dynamic Resource Allocation For Beyond 5g Networks Through Uav-Assisted Communication, Iman Adel Sami Dec 2024

Dynamic Resource Allocation For Beyond 5g Networks Through Uav-Assisted Communication, Iman Adel Sami

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

In response to the surging demand for cellular services, driven partly by the post-COVID-19 era, network operators are grappling with the challenge of enhancing network capacity and throughput. Fifth-generation mobile technology and beyond (6G) with techniques like network slicing are emerging as promising solutions for faster data speeds and improved network performance across various devices. In network slicing, distributing radio resources between different virtual operators (slices) is often performed in a static manner. Therefore, due to the dynamic user demand, the users of one virtual operator could suffer from a lack of resources, whereas another virtual operator with overlapping cells …

Faculty Perceptions Of Soft And Hard Skills In Sport Management Curricula, Jonathan Rosenberg Ed.D., Simon M. Pack

The COSMA Journal

While employers still see the value in accessing hard skills, the current hiring process involves placing a greater emphasis on the transferable skills known as soft skills. These soft skills include critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, written and oral communication, and the ability to research independently. As such, hiring managers suggest the onus for developing soft skills rest with faculty as they equip these future employees with the soft skills necessary for a given role or industry. There exists an abundance of research in skill development and employability from the vantage point of the employer and of the graduating student, however, …

Iraqi Journal for Computer Science and Mathematics

Cyberbullying has arisen as a prevalent and worrying issue in the digital age, substantially influencing the well-being and mental health of social media users. Previous studies have identified several factors and theories of cyberbullying. Still more in-depth research is required to understand the key factors influencing cyberbullying intention in social media. This study aims to identify the factors influencing cyberbullying intention in social media and examine the moderating effect of fake accounts on cyberbullying intention. An extensive literature review has been conducted to examine the gaps in existing studies on cyberbullying intention. As a result, this study uses the Theory …

Displaced And Distressed: Refugee Mental Health As A Public Health Priority, Iman Badr Dec 2024

Displaced And Distressed: Refugee Mental Health As A Public Health Priority, Iman Badr

Visions for Public Health Justice

This infographic examines the critical intersection of race, class, and gender in understanding the mental health challenges faced by Middle Eastern refugees in the United States. Drawing on Fundamental Cause Theory, Gender Role and Socialization Theory, and Stigma Theory, I demonstrate how structural barriers, socioeconomic inequalities, and cultural factors create significant obstacles to mental healthcare access for this vulnerable population. The analysis reveals alarming statistics: PTSD prevalence among Middle Eastern refugees ranges from 13% to 25%, with 48% of Arab refugees in the U.S. meeting criteria for depression and 58% experiencing anxiety. Additionally, the data highlights pronounced gender disparities, with …

Evaluation Of A Token Reinforcement System For Assignment Completion In Students With Educational Disabilities, Brandon O'Dell Dec 2024

Evaluation Of A Token Reinforcement System For Assignment Completion In Students With Educational Disabilities, Brandon O'Dell

Theses

Token reinforcement systems are an effective tool in applied behavior analysis. Studies as early as the 1960s and 70s have demonstrated the effectiveness of token economy from addressing the behaviors of psychiatric patients (e.g., Allyon & Azrin, 1965) to supporting the academic achievement of students in school settings (e.g., McLaughlin & Malaby, 1972) Most recently, Espinoza and Hackenberg (2024) discussed the history and effectiveness of token reinforcement, while providing practical recommendations for its application. The current study aimed to implement a token reinforcement system to increase assignment completion and accuracy in three eighth-grade students with various medical and educational diagnoses …

Why The Ostensible Agency Tort Doctrine Is Incoherent, Daniel Harris Dec 2024

Why The Ostensible Agency Tort Doctrine Is Incoherent, Daniel Harris

University of Miami Business Law Review

One of the most perplexing areas of current tort law is the ostensible agency tort doctrine, which courts use to determine whether companies should be held liable for the negligence of their independent contractors. In most cases, liability under this doctrine requires proof the plaintiff detrimentally relied on a representation that the contractor was an employee of the defendant. However, in cases involving the negligence of independent contractor emergency room doctors, courts often hold hospitals liable under the ostensible agency tort doctrine without requiring such proof. Why does the doctrine take two inconsistent forms?

This Article argues that the law’s …

Composting For Cleaner Air, Simi Benisty, Katie Bui, Narmin Solman, David Woo

Master's Projects and Capstones

The aim of this project was to address food waste at Mary's Kitchen by implementing a composting initiative to divert organic waste from landfills. The project took place in a nonprofit organization that serves food to the homeless, where the target population includes staff, volunteers, and clients of the kitchen. Key interventions involved creating educational materials on composting, recycling, and waste management, including flyers in both English and Spanish, as well as a QR code for easy access. Additionally, smaller, color-coded buckets were introduced to replace the 33-gallon bins, making waste sorting more manageable. Measures included staff and volunteer compliance …
