Recommendations For Adapting Religious Materials For People With Aphasia, Allison Dahl
Recommendations For Adapting Religious Materials For People With Aphasia, Allison Dahl
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This study aimed to discover whether text adaptations for aphasia commonly applied to secular texts are also applicable to religious texts, as religious texts are often held in a special regard by religious people. This research included five participants with aphasia who consider themselves members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These participants indicated preferences using a 7-point scale between paired samples of religious text formatted using common aphasia-friendly text adaptations. These quantitative data were analyzed for preference trends. Additionally, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews focused on adaptation preferences as well as aphasia’s effects on …

Motivations And Goals Of Parents Participating In The Working With Parents Manual Pilot Study, Amanda Nicholson
ETD Collection
Understanding the motivations and goals of parents participating in parenting programs is crucial for developing effective parenting programs and keeping participants engaged. This study reviews the motivations and goals of participants in the Working With Parents Manual (WWPM) Pilot Study (Mowder, 2022). The WWPM is based on the Parent Development Theory (PDT) which defines six categories of important parenting behaviors (i.e., Bonding, Discipline, Education, General Welfare and Protection, Responsivity, Sensitivity). The study explores parents' motivations and goals for participating in the WWPM program, the impact participation has on parenting behaviors, and the relationship between parenting goals and program satisfaction. The Abusive Effects Of Trauma On Leadership Styles And Performance, Robert Kraft
The Abusive Effects Of Trauma On Leadership Styles And Performance, Robert Kraft
Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project
This Doctor of Ministry (DMin) Major Applied Project (MAP) investigates the relationship between toxic leadership in the military and trauma, particular how trauma can have negative, abusive effects on leadership style and performance. Most research in this area addresses trauma in postvention. This MAP addresses trauma’s potential effect on leadership style and explores the use of a pre-emptive, preventative training. Leadership theory is explored as well as trauma in the form of mental disorders, such as PTSD and narcissism. The author’s experience as an ordained pastor of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, serving as an Army Chaplain, revealed the value of …

Acquisition Of English By Additional Language Learners In Inquiry-Based Classrooms Within International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Schools, Valerian Goguadze
Acquisition Of English By Additional Language Learners In Inquiry-Based Classrooms Within International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program Schools, Valerian Goguadze
Dissertations
Many International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) schools provide English instruction to all students. The program has grown worldwide with a significant enrollment of students who speak a first language other than English, necessitating the need for an English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum. The IB’s philosophy of language acquisition is deeply integrated into its documents, school policies, and classroom practices. Consequently, all IB teachers, not just those who teach additional languages, are expected to have a basic understanding of how to teach English. Despite IB’s supportive-inclusive policies, EAL learners continue to face challenges in learning English.

More Than Just A Grade: Factors Influencing Secondary Students’ Engagement With Digital Feedback, Mandy Prior
More Than Just A Grade: Factors Influencing Secondary Students’ Engagement With Digital Feedback, Mandy Prior
Dissertations
The increasing use of technology in secondary education has shifted teacher feedback practices to digital environments. While digital feedback offers many promising affordances, the factors that influence how students engage with and use digital feedback are not well understood. Previous research indicates that digital feedback poses unique challenges for engagement. New paradigm feedback models seek to identify processes and actions that promote feedback engagement. However, these models require further study in digital and pre-higher education contexts. This qualitative single-case study investigated the factors influencing secondary students' engagement with digital feedback. Data included 24 student interviews conducted across four grade levels …

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), raising concerns about exacerbation of symptoms and vulnerability of the patients. This project first reviews existing literature on the interconnections between COVID-19 and PD, focusing on the physiological, psychological, and treatment-related challenges faced by patients. Then it analyzes survey data examining increased severity of COVID-19 in individuals with PD, alongside the literature researching potential mechanisms linking the two, such as inflammation and neurodegeneration. The survey’s key areas of focus included symptom management, treatment satisfaction, the impact of PD on daily living, and the impact of COVID-19 on motor and …

Women, Collective Creative Practice, And Community Health, Anne Hensley
Women, Collective Creative Practice, And Community Health, Anne Hensley
Honors Theses
A growing body of research shows that art therapy yields positive outcomes for those experiencing stress and mood disorders. Creative arts therapies have been shown to lower cortisol, improve personal and universal outlook, decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression, increase self-esteem and confidence, alleviate burnout, help individuals to cope with trauma, and support brain function through activity-dependent plasticity. However, little research has been done on collective and collaborative arts, and the enhanced benefits communal practice might bring. Additionally, art therapy is inaccessible to many, due to a dearth of practitioners and cultural and socioeconomic barriers to participation. Peri-, menopausal, and …
Why Law "Beyond The State" Need Not Be A Threat To Democratic Values, Paul Schiff Berman
Why Law "Beyond The State" Need Not Be A Threat To Democratic Values, Paul Schiff Berman
Buffalo Law Review
Discussions of “law beyond the state” almost inevitably run into objections from those who believe that sub- or supranational legal orders necessarily subvert local democratic governance. Self-proclaimed populists and others express concern that the “will of the people” will be unduly subjected to the dictates of “cosmopolitan elites”1 or local factions, or corporate capture. These objections range across the political spectrum. Those on the right tend to focus on concerns that transnational orders will impose human rights or immigration rules on a national polity, while those on the left worry about trade regimes that might impose local labor or environmental …

Performance Evaluation Of Routing Protocols And Ml-Based Enhancements For Uav-Assisted Post-Disaster Communication Networks, Prachi Choudhary
Performance Evaluation Of Routing Protocols And Ml-Based Enhancements For Uav-Assisted Post-Disaster Communication Networks, Prachi Choudhary
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
During natural disasters, the existing communication systems collapse, and the disaster-affected areas become disconnected without any means of exchanging information. The collapse of existing communication networks poses challenges for First-Responders (FRs) in locating survivors during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations and for survivors to communicate for emergency aid. To alleviate post-disaster consequences and save lives, Uncrewed Air Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, can be employed to establish adaptable and reliable emergency communication networks. UAVs offer portability and rapid deployment, making them effective in crises. This thesis presents two main contributions: 1) Evaluation and Comparison of Routing Protocol Performance: The …

The Impact Of Transformational Leadership On Employee Motivation Across Non-Profit And For-Profit Organizations, Kayla L. Lent
M.S. in Leadership
This project examines the impact of transformational leadership on employee motivation within both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Using a case study approach, the research was inspired by the author’s observations of transformational leadership in practice and its effects on employee engagement, morale, and alignment with organizational goals. A qualitative methodology was employed, featuring a semi-structured interview with a nonprofit leader to explore key components of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Findings reveal that transformational leadership fosters intrinsic motivation and strengthens organizational culture across sectors. The study concludes with practical recommendations for adopting transformational practices …

On The Readership Of Spinoza’S Writing & A Poetics For Thought, Tam Pham
On The Readership Of Spinoza’S Writing & A Poetics For Thought, Tam Pham
Honors Thesis
This paper invites attention to textual facts and other intricacies in the readership of Spinoza’s writing, which bring to the fore his thinking qua thinking under language, a consideration that seems at least underappreciated, if not misappreciated, by the very readership in question. In so doing, the paper reflects on the possibility—and perhaps necessity—of a poetological purview into a philosophical corpus, in terms of its being written under a sense of Latin as well as of other tongues, generated by and for a thinker to be the linguisticity within which he thinks. To put in differently: if Spinoza were to …

The World Health Organization (WHO) monitors public global health and tries to assist vulnerable populations in their pursue to achieve optimal health. WHO has always voiced concerns regarding health and environmental impacts of fossil fuel consumption. Reviewing WHO website shows various reports on fossil fuel impacts from multiple perspectives. The paper aims to examine the temporal construction of fossil fuel threat in WHO reports. Such construction aims to encourage people to take preventive measures within time span that precedes the impact of the threatening element. To accomplish this aim, the paper employs Cap’s (2013, p. 16) temporal proximization strategy as …
