Ophidiomyces Ophidiicola And Texas Snakes: A Field To Bench Study Of Ophidiomycosis, Kenlynn L. Volz Oct 2024

Ophidiomyces Ophidiicola And Texas Snakes: A Field To Bench Study Of Ophidiomycosis, Kenlynn L. Volz

Biology Theses

Ophidiomyces ophidiicola (Oo), the primary cause of Ophidiomycosis, is a fungal pathogen recently detected in Texas snakes. Prior to this study, there were major knowledge gaps regarding Oo growth, spread, and suitable environmental conditions. This study filled those gaps using a field to bench approach involving sampling snakes across Texas, in vitro fungal growth, and ecological niche modeling. 103 snakes were sampled across Texas in 2023 and 2024 and six cases of Oo infection were detected. Results of the growth experiment suggest that Oo prefers more stable temperatures and high humidity to a point and that there is a …

Innovative Soft Cryptosystem For Encrypting And Decrypting Messages With Idea, Muhammad Saeed, Hafiz Inamul Haq, Mubashir Ali, Mudassira Mustafa

Sustainable Machine Intelligence Journal

This paper introduces an advanced cryptosystem for message encryption and decryption, integrating the International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA) with soft set and soft matrix principles. Soft sets, conceptualized by Molodtsov, are adept at managing uncertainty, making them ideal for cryptographic frameworks. Our approach utilizes inverse and characteristic products of soft sets and matrices, combined with the robust IDEA algorithm, to significantly enhance security. The IDEA algorithm operates on 64 -bit data blocks with a 128 -bit key, ensuring strong encryption. Additionally, we incorporate the symmetric to introduce complex permutations, further strengthening the cryptographic process by ensuring unique encryptions for identical …

Financial Impacts Of 2020 Labor Day Wildfires To Oregon Highways, Kevin Christiansen, Rubayet Bin Mostafiz, Ayat Al Assi, Robert V. Rohli, Carol J. Friedland

Faculty Publications

Wildfire-caused damage to highways has a significant financial cost to the local, regional, and state jurisdictions where they occur. This study examines the financial ramifications of the harm caused to highways by megafires, using a case study of the highways impacted in the U.S. state of Oregon by the five megafires that occurred during the 2020 Labor Day wildfires. This study proposes a method to classify financial road damage from these wildfires based upon curated datasets collected from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Hence, this study presents a dataset with labeled classes, which include physical, roadway, and traffic. Physical …

Prazosin As An Adjuvant To Increase Effectiveness Of Duloxetine In A Rat Model Of Oxaliplatin-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy, Monica A. Wagner, Naji Ayyash

Faculty Scholarship

Objectives: Duloxetine, the only American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) treatment recommended for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in cancer survivors, is not effective for 40% of survivors. This study examined the ability of a duloxetine-prazosin combination to prevent the development of allodynia and hyperalgesia in a rat model of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OPIN). Methods: Female (n = 24) and male (n = 41) rats were started on duloxetine (15 mg), prazosin (2 mg), or a duloxetine-prazosin combination one week prior to administration of the chemotherapy drug, oxaliplatin, and continued the duloxetine-prazosin combination for 32 days. Behavioral testing for mechanical allodynia …

Using Gis To Visualize Daily Routines At The Neighborhood And Household Scales: A Feminist Approach Using A Nineteenth-Century Diary, Sterling Quinn Oct 2024

Using Gis To Visualize Daily Routines At The Neighborhood And Household Scales: A Feminist Approach Using A Nineteenth-Century Diary, Sterling Quinn

Geography Faculty Scholarship

Feminist scholars in the discipline of geography have noted the ways that routine activities at the household and neighborhood scales contribute to power relations and identity formation. Geographic information systems (GIS), with their ability to create multiple visual representations of people’s experiences in space at any scale, hold great potential for revealing these local processes and patterns that are often lost or invisible in broader historical narratives, especially when they pertain to women and children. This article contributes an example by using GIS to encode and map everyday events in a diary kept by Elisabeth Koren, a nineteenth-century Norwegian immigrant …

Reflections From A Summer Literacy Intervention: Unlocking A Love Of Literacy For Struggling Readers, Rory Cantwell Oct 2024

Reflections From A Summer Literacy Intervention: Unlocking A Love Of Literacy For Struggling Readers, Rory Cantwell

Honors Projects

Summer literacy interventions offer a solution to the devastating impacts that summer literacy loss can have on struggling readers and writers. However, these interventions should consider the impact of student attitudes towards literacy on their learning and strive to develop positive associations between literacy and enjoyment. Camp Curious, a summer literacy intervention developed as a collaboration between the Virginia Association of Teachers of English and Shrine Mont, a retreat and conference center, embodies this idea. The intervention, in the form of a week-long camp experience, strives to provide third through sixth graders with positive and varied experiences related to literacy. …

Response To A Poor Season (2017), Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Animal production and livestock factsheets

This analysis was prepared for the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Sheep Industry Business Innovation project by the Farming Systems Analysis Service in July 2017.

Provisos for the following:

  1. The price of sheep doesn’t reduce substantially over the next 12 months. This is not expected but it is a risk and therefore selling low priority stock is recommended. Low priority sheep are: dry sheep, wether weaners and old ewes >6yo.
  2. That confinement feeding is done with reasonable technical skill and that feed isn’t wasted and that animals don’t die at high rates
