Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The study analyzed interactions among economic, environmental, and sociocultural factors in agricul-tural irrigation systems to evaluate and promote integral sustainability, using the application of plitho-genic n-SuperHyperGraphs. Significant interactions between vertex attributes were identified during the study's development. Results highlighted that optimizing economic profitability, implementing ecologi-cal pest management, and fostering social cohesion are essential for improving system sustainability. It is concluded that an interdisciplinary approach is critical for achieving comprehensive agricultural sus-tainability, proposing an evaluative model adaptable to local settings to strengthen sector resilience. Ad-ditionally, the application of plithogenic n-SuperHyperGraphs provides a useful tool across various study areas for management and …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Concern regarding the negative effects of synthetic pesticides has driven the development of bioinsecti-cides as sustainable alternatives. Consequently, Nicotiana glauca has gained prominence for its insecti-cidal properties due to phytochemical compounds effective against pests such as Drosophila immigrans. This study, therefore, evaluated the efficacy of Nicotiana glauca extract as a bioinsecticide by optimizing extraction parameters and analyzing its insecticidal action under laboratory conditions across eight combined treatments. For this purpose, multiple experimental combinations were analyzed through Plithogenic n-SuperHyperGraphs, allowing a multidimensional evaluation of the attributes and proper-ties of each treatment. Results indicated that treatment with 96% ethanol, 48 hours of …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Graph theory examines networks consisting of nodes (vertices) and the connections (edges) between them. Mixed graphs, which combine both undirected and directed edges, provide a versatile framework for representing relationships with symmetric and asymmetric connections across various systems. In this work, we introduce and analyze the concept of mixed graphs within the contexts of Fuzzy Graphs, Neutrosophic Graphs, and Turiyam Neutrosophic Graphs. By exploring their properties, interrelations, and potential applications, we aim to advance theunderstanding of uncertain graphs.

Despite having tremendous progress in image-to-3D generation, existing methods still struggle to produce multi-view consistent images with high-resolution textures in detail, especially in the paradigm of 2D diffusion that lacks 3D awareness. In this work, we present High-resolution Image-to-3D model (Hi3D), a new video diffusion based paradigm that redefines a single image to multi-view images as 3D-aware sequential image generation (i.e., orbital video generation). This methodology delves into the underlying temporal consistency knowledge in video diffusion model that generalizes well to geometry consistency across multiple views in 3D generation. Technically, Hi3D first empowers the pre-trained video diffusion model with 3D-aware …

Despite the remarkable abilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) to answer questions, they often display a considerable level of overconfidence even when the question does not have a definitive answer. To avoid providing hallucinated answers to these unknown questions, existing studies typically investigate approaches to refusing to answer these questions. In this work, we propose a novel and scalable self-alignment method to utilize the LLM itself to enhance its response-ability to different types of unknown questions, being capable of not only refusing to answer but also providing explanation to the unanswerability of unknown questions. Specifically, the Self-Align method first employ …

Chatogekko amazonicus is a miniaturized gecko from northern South America and is among the smallest of toe pad bearing lizards. The toe pads of C. amazonicus are miniscule, between 18% and 27% of the plantar surface area. We aimed to investigate the relationship between adhesive toe pad morphology, body size, and adhesive capabilities. Using scanning electron microscopy, we determine that the adhesive pads of C. amazonicus exhibit branched setae similar to those of other geckos, but that are generally much smaller. When compared with other gecko taxa, we show that C. amazonicus setae occupy a similar range of seta length: …

Theses
This thesis aims to explore the use of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-L (ZIF-L) as a support for immobilizing alcalase and its potency in producing protein hydrolysates. ZIF-L was synthesized at room temperature using an aqueous solution, and alcalase was immobilized through adsorption batch experiment. The successful immobilization of alcalase on ZIF-L was confirmed through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The maximum adsorption capacity of alcalase on ZIF-L was determined to be 672.1 ± 5.5 mg g-1 at 40°C using an initial protein concentration of 5 mg mL-1. Adsorption equilibrium data …

Globally, winter temperatures are rising, and snowpack is shrinking or disappearing entirely. Despite previous research and published literature reviews, it remains unknown whether biomes across the globe will cross important thresholds in winter temperature and precipitation that will lead to significant ecological changes. Here, we combine the widely used Köppen–Geiger climate classification system with worst-case-scenario projected changes in global monthly temperature and precipitation to illustrate how multiple climatic zones across Earth may experience shifting winter conditions by the end of this century. We then examine how these shifts may affect ecosystems within corresponding biomes. Our analysis demonstrates potential widespread losses …
Medieval Hypebeast: The Conspicuous Consumption Of Joan I Of Aragon, Jonathan Seyfried
Medieval Hypebeast: The Conspicuous Consumption Of Joan I Of Aragon, Jonathan Seyfried
Quidditas
Limited releases, celebrity culture, and insane profit margins: these features define the hypebeast phenomenon of the early twenty-first century. The rise and fall of this cycle of conspicuous consumption bears remarkable resemblance to the craze for French culture in the Crown of Aragon in the late fourteenth century. King Joan I, starting from the time of his youth as the Duke of Girona, funded several projects to import French culture. In 1380, Joan married Violante de Bar, niece of the French King Charles V and the Duc de Berry. Once Joan and Violante ascended to the throne, they co-created a …

Alfred Russel Wallace Notes 32. Wallace On The Tigers Of Singapore, Charles H. Smith
Faculty/Staff Personal Papers
Historian John van Wyhe has written a good deal on Alfred Russel Wallace’s travels in the Malay Archipelago in the 1850s and 1860s, in so doing coming to a number of generally derogative surmises on Wallace’s thoughts and collecting efforts that disagree with the conclusions made by other scholars. In this work one example of such treatment is given, concerning Wallace’s estimation of the number of persons in Singapore attacked by tigers over the middle years of that century.

Models of the underwater acoustic soundscape are important for evaluating the effects of human generated sounds on marine life. The performance of models can be validated against measurements or verified against each other for consistency. A verification workshop was held to compare models that predict the soundscape from wind and vessels and estimate detection ranges for a submerged target. Eight modeling groups participated in the workshop which predicted sound levels with observation windows of 1 min and 1 km2. Substantial differences were found in how modelers computed the propagation losses for decidecade bands and estimated the source level of wind. …

Examination Of The Effects Of Various Pharmacotherapies For Diabetes On Nicotine Intake And Pain Sensitivity, Sebastian Ortegon
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Tobacco use and diabetes are major public health concerns. Prior work has suggested that persons with diabetes may exhibit greater susceptibility to nicotine dependence, and treatments for nicotine cessation are less effective. From existing literature, it is also unclear if neuropathic pain contributes to nicotine use in persons with diabetes. To address these issues, this Masterâ??s thesis first assessed the efficacy of diabetes pharmacotherapies on nicotine intake, food consumption, and water intake in rodent models of insulin resistance (Aim 1). Subsequent studies assessed the impact of analgesic medications on nicotine intake and neuropathic pain in rodent models that produce neuropathic …
Deciphering Rodent Behavior: Unraveling Complex Decision-Making Through High-Throughput Data Analysis In Behavioral Neuroscience, Atanu Giri
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Understanding the effects of substance use on decision-making is critical for both clinical andtranslational research. In this thesis, I present two complementary studies that explore decision- making behavior in rodents with a focus on alcohol consumption and novel experimental frame- works. The first study examines the impact of acute alcohol consumption on decision-making in a behavioral approach-avoidance task. Rats were presented with a concurrent choice of consuming alcohol and sucrose mixtures across four distinct concentrations, allowing for the analysis of ap- proach or avoidance behavior. Sex-dependent differences emerged, with male rats demonstrating a significantly higher tendency to approach higher alcohol …

The opportunistic pathogen Enterococcus faecium colonizes humans and a wide range of animals, endures numerous stresses, resists antibiotic treatment and stubbornly persists in clinical environments. The widespread application of antibiotics in hospitals and agriculture has contributed to the emergence of vancomycin-resistant E. faecium, which causes many hospital-acquired infections. In this Review, we explore recent discoveries about the evolutionary history, the environmental adaptation and the colonization and dissemination mechanisms of E. faecium and vancomycin-resistant E. faecium. These studies provide critical insights necessary for developing novel preventive and therapeutic approaches against vancomycin-resistant E. faecium and also reveal the intricate interrelationships …

Climate change has had a tremendous impact on ecosystems, with an apparent connection between farming methods and environmental change. Climate change has a substantial effect on both abiotic and biotic factors that affect crop plants. The increasing number of abiotic stressors has highlighted the impact of global warming on plant productivity. This study compared and evaluated the abiotic stress resistance of two Moringa species (Moringa oleifera and Moringa peregrina) to UV radiation, increased CO₂ levels, and their combined effects. The evaluation mainly focused on key morphological features, including plant height (cm) and fresh and dry weights, to assess …

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a challenging medical issue that requires efficacious treatment options to improve long-term quality of life. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabis-derived phytocannabinoid with potential health benefits, including reports from our laboratory and others showing a therapeutic role in the pre-clinical treatment of AD; however, the mechanisms whereby CBD affects AD progression remain undefined. Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are recently discovered immune cells that initiate and orchestrate inflammatory responses. ILC2, a sub-class of ILCs, is proposed to have a role in cognitive function via unknown mechanisms. In this present study, we explored whether CBD ameliorates AD symptoms via …

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), the most common form of peripheral T-cell lymphoma, originates from follicular helper T (Tfh) cells and is notably resistant to current treatments. The disease progression and maintenance, at least in early stages, are driven by a complex interplay between neoplastic Tfh and clusters of B-cells within the tumor microenvironment, mirroring the functional crosstalk observed inside germinal centers. This interaction is further complicated by recurrent mutations, such as TET2 and DNMT3A, which are present in both Tfh cells and B-cells. These findings suggest that the symbiotic relationship between these 2 cell types could represent a therapeutic vulnerability. …

Structural birth defects affect 3–4% of all live births and, depending on the type, tend to manifest in a sex-biased manner. Orofacial clefts (OFCs) are the most common craniofacial structural birth defects and are often divided into cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) and cleft palate only (CP). Previous studies have found sex-specific risks for CL/P, but these risks have yet to be evaluated in CP. CL/P is more common in males and CP is more frequently observed in females, so we hypothesized there would also be sex-specific differences for CP. Using a trio-based cohort, we performed sex-stratified …

Excitatory neurotransmission is principally mediated by α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA)-subtype ionotropic glutamate receptors (AMPARs). Negative allosteric modulators are therapeutic candidates that inhibit AMPAR activation and can compete with positive modulators to control AMPAR function through unresolved mechanisms. Here we show that allosteric inhibition pushes AMPARs into a distinct state that prevents both activation and positive allosteric modulation. We used cryo-electron microscopy to capture AMPARs bound to glutamate, while a negative allosteric modulator, GYKI-52466, and positive allosteric modulator, cyclothiazide, compete for control of the AMPARs. GYKI-52466 binds in the ion channel collar and inhibits AMPARs by decoupling the ligand-binding domains from the …
