Graph Entropy Of Some Special Chemical Graphs, B. I. Andrew, A Anuradha
Graph Entropy Of Some Special Chemical Graphs, B. I. Andrew, A Anuradha
Baghdad Science Journal
Chemical graph theory plays an important role in modelling molecules, especially examining physico-chemical properties of the chemical compounds. Alkanes are one of the chemical compounds which are made up of hydrogen and carbon atoms, generally known as hydrocarbons. These alkanes having empirical formula 2(+1). Structural/constitutional isomers are the collection of chemical compounds having same empirical formula but different structural arrangements, this lead to the diversity in the physico-chemical properties. Graph descriptors are the essential tools in the graph theory to study about these physico-chemical properties. Some of these graph descriptors are graph spectrum, graph energy and graph entropy which contribute …
Solving Edges Deletion Problem Of Complete Graphs, Anwar N. Jasim, Alaa A. Najim
Solving Edges Deletion Problem Of Complete Graphs, Anwar N. Jasim, Alaa A. Najim
Baghdad Science Journal
As the network size increases, there is an increased probability that some components will fail. It is therefore necessary for the network to be able to maintain the interconnection even in the presence of faulty components. The likelihood of a failure in the connections between stations is higher than that of a failure in the stations themselves because of the nature of many networks. Numerous graph-theoretic methods can be used to examine the reliability and efficacy of a network, and the network's dependability is determined by its connectivity. For a parallel and distributed system, the maximum connection time between any …
Optimizing Encrypted Search In The Cloud Using Autoencoder-Based Query Approximation, Mahmoud Mohamed, Khaled Alosman
Optimizing Encrypted Search In The Cloud Using Autoencoder-Based Query Approximation, Mahmoud Mohamed, Khaled Alosman
Baghdad Science Journal
Searching over encrypted data is critical for secure cloud services. However, encryption reduces search efficiency due to inability to directly compute on ciphertexts. This leads to an inherent tradeoff between privacy and usability that has motivated extensive research on enabling effective encrypted search. Recent work has explored using machine learning models like autoencoders to optimize similarity search under encryption. Autoencoders compress data into low-dimensional vectors capturing semantic information. Documents and queries can be encoded for efficient similarity computation without decryption. However, existing analysis remains limited in scope and scale. The research address these gaps through large-scale experiments and novel optimizations. …
Preparation, Characterization, Of Some Oxadiazol Derivatives Prepared From Different Carboxylic Acids, Selvana A. Yousif
Preparation, Characterization, Of Some Oxadiazol Derivatives Prepared From Different Carboxylic Acids, Selvana A. Yousif
Baghdad Science Journal
A series of Mefenamic acid derivatives were designed and synthesized and the products were characterized spectroscopically using FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR techniques. Series A included the transformation of six drugs (Mefenamic acid, Ampiciline, Noproxen, Benzilic acid, Diclofenac acid, and cephics) which are known to have highly medicinal effectiveness to acid chloride then react with thiosemicarbazide to synthesize series B. In the third stage, oxadiazole was prepared using POCl3 as a ring-closing agent to compounds (B1-B6). The final step in the strategy was building new Mefenamic acid derivatives consisting of condensation of the Mefenamic acid chloride with the compounds …
Predicting Movie Production Years Through Facial Recognition Of Actors With Machine Learning, Asraa Muayed Abdalah, Noor Redha Alkazaz
Predicting Movie Production Years Through Facial Recognition Of Actors With Machine Learning, Asraa Muayed Abdalah, Noor Redha Alkazaz
Baghdad Science Journal
This study used machine learning algorithms to identify actors and extract the age of actors from images taken randomly from movies. The use of images taken from Arab movies includes challenges such as non-uniform lighting, different and multiple poses for the actors and multiple elements with the actor or a group of actors. Additionally, the use of make-up, wigs, beards, and wearing different accessories and costumes made it difficult for the system to identify the personality of the same actor. The Arab Actors Dataset-AAD comprises 574 images sourced from various movies, encompassing both black and white as well as color …

Baghdad Science Journal
Through optical emission spectroscopy, zinc (Zn) plasma produced on the basis of a laser can be investigated in the proposed study. Zinc plasma spectral emissions were studied as a function of laser energy (200, 300, 400, and 500) mJ. Record plasma emission with a 100 ns integration time. The spectral lines of zinc were determined, and the electron temperature () and electron density () were studied using Boltzmann diagrams. It is noted from the results that as the laser energies increase, the values of and rise as well, as the values range from (1.075−1.467) eV for electron temperature, …

Evaluation Of Retinol Binding Protein 4 Level In Iraqi Patients With Type 2 Diabetes And Pre-Diabetes Status As A Predictive Factor, Heba Mohammed Hatem, Kadhim K. Ghudhaib
Baghdad Science Journal
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has doubled in recent years due to a defect in insulin production, which can develop to form diabetes complications that affect the kidneys, nerves, and eyes. As a result, early diagnosis and classification of Type II diabetes are critical to aiding physician assessments. Accordingly, the current study aimed to determine Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) levels in patients with T2DM and pre-DM as early predictors for disease cases. The current study included 138 subjects, divided into three groups, on the basis of FBG and HbA1c criteria, including (DM, 46 patients, pre-DM, 46 participants, and …
Variability In Northeastern Early Paleoindian Period Basecamps: Implications For The Peopling Of New Landscapes, Anne Parfitt
Variability In Northeastern Early Paleoindian Period Basecamps: Implications For The Peopling Of New Landscapes, Anne Parfitt
Anthropology Theses and Dissertations
The Pleistocene peopling of the Americas remains a process we still do not fully understand. One primary reason for this is that in many regions of North America, it is not always possible to determine whether the earliest archaeological sites represent the activities of pioneering people, or of later populations. One area where the earliest sites are most likely to represent a founding population is Northeastern North America (e.g., the Great Lakes and New England-Maritimes regions), due to the relatively late deglaciation in this area. The earliest sites in this area include a dozen or so large, distinctive basecamps with …
Two Birds, Two Stones: Separating Biodiversity Conservation From Patent Law, Jessie Sadlon
Two Birds, Two Stones: Separating Biodiversity Conservation From Patent Law, Jessie Sadlon
Nebraska Law Bulletin (Selected Issues)
The current decline in biodiversity is faster than any other point in human history.[1] Overexploitation is the leading driver of biodiversity loss; species are harvested at unreplenishable rates. Government, non-government, and industry representatives are searching for direction in addressing this rapid species loss. In particular, the World Intellectual Property Organization (“WIPO”) is looking to channel biodiversity conservation through patent systems by instituting an origin disclosure requirement within the patent application process. This paper explores the intersection of biodiversity and innovation, contending the origin disclosure requirement is an unjustified, ineffective mechanism to effectuate biodiversity conservation.
Part II describes the biodiversity crisis …
Regulation And Function Of Mec-2 Alternative Splicing In Single Cells, Canyon Calovich-Benne
Regulation And Function Of Mec-2 Alternative Splicing In Single Cells, Canyon Calovich-Benne
Biological Sciences Theses and Dissertations
One mechanism for generating diversity at the single cell level is selective expression of a unique set of transcription factors (TFs) and RNA binding proteins (RBPs). These regulatory factors contribute to functions of cells by controlling cell fate, turning genes on and off, and processing of transcripts either co- or post-transcriptionally. Many genes, especially neuronal genes, have multiple different splicing events, promoters, and/or polyadenylation sites. Post-transcriptional coordination is in the infancy of being studied and the functional consequences of this coupling at the single cell level has yet to be explored. Here we show, mec-2 coordination of alternative transcription start …
Childhood Maltreatment And The Conserved Transcriptional Response To Adversity (Ctra): The Protective Roles Of Social Support From Romantic Partners, Family, And Friends In Adulthood, Sumaiyah U. Syed
Psychology Theses and Dissertations
Childhood maltreatment is associated with an increased risk of chronic disease and mortality in adulthood, with chronic inflammation emerging as a key pathway. However, findings in the literature are mixed: while some studies associate childhood maltreatment with heightened inflammation, others report no such link. Given the prevalence of childhood maltreatment, identifying protective factors in adulthood is crucial. Social support during childhood has been shown to buffer the effects of early life stress on immune function, yet the role of social support from various sources in adulthood remains unclear. The current study examined the association between childhood maltreatment and the expression …

Repurposing The Land Of An East Los Angeles Church: The Discovery Of How Small And Medium Sized Churches Through Affordable Housing Can Combat Homelessness While Revitalizing Its Nonprofit Status, Donald Cook, Donald Ray Cook Ii
Doctor of Ministry Projects and Theses
In order to live, humans need to sleep; therefore, sleep is mandatory, but unfortunately, everyone does not have the option of sleeping inside. Subsequently, many homeless encampments have developed in many countries. The perspective that people have often determines their response to homelessness. One person might view a homeless encampment as a problem that needs to be removed while someone else can view it as an opportunity to serve the least of these. Not only did Adam and Eve experience homelessness when removed from the Garden of Eden, but Mary, Joseph, and Jesus experienced first-hand the rollercoaster of inadequate housing. …

Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
Human motion analysis, including data visualization and annotation, is crucial for understanding human behavior and intentions during various activities, aiding in the development of innovative tools that support independent living. Current wearable sensing technology provides rich 3D spatial movement data but generates multimodal complex datasets that require specialized skills for effective analysis. Despite the need, limited research exists on tools for effective visualization and easy annotation of such complex motion data. MoViAn (Motion Data Visualization and Annotation) is an innovative 3D data analysis system offering enriched visual representations of 3D human motion data (e.g., gaze, hand movements), along with an …
Epigenomics-Based Approaches To Predict Transcriptional Regulators, Zeyu Lu
Epigenomics-Based Approaches To Predict Transcriptional Regulators, Zeyu Lu
Statistical Science Theses and Dissertations
Transcriptional regulators (TRs), proteins controlling gene expression, play a critical role in health and disease. Dysregulated TRs have been implicated in various diseases and cancers, driving the development of computational methods using next-generation sequencing (NGS) data for TR identification. However, a systematic evaluation of these NGS-based methods has been lacking. This dissertation presents a comprehensive review of thirteen existing methods, benchmarking their performance using gene sets derived from TR perturbations.
We further address the emerging challenge of identifying TRs from epigenomic regions (peaks) using NGS techniques. Existing methods often rely on motif-based analysis or user-provided gene lists, both having severe …
Bat Cutaneous Microbial Assemblage Functional Redundancy Across A Host-Mediated Disturbance, Matthew Grisnik, Donald M. Walker
Bat Cutaneous Microbial Assemblage Functional Redundancy Across A Host-Mediated Disturbance, Matthew Grisnik, Donald M. Walker
Biology
Understanding the processes and factors that influence the structure of host-associated microbial assemblages has been a major area of research as these assemblages play a role in host defense against pathogens. Previous work has found that bacterial taxa within bat cutaneous microbial assemblages have antifungal capabilities against the emerging fungal pathogen, Pseudogymnoascus destructans. However, our understanding of natural fluctuations in these cutaneous microbial assemblages over time due to shifts in host habitat is lacking. The objective of this work was to understand how the taxonomic and functional bat cutaneous microbial assemblage responds to seasonal shifts in host habitat. We hypothesized …

Microwell Fabrication For Impedance And Ac Measurements Of Isolated Ventricular Cardiomyocytes, Fallon Wenck
Multidisciplinary Studies Theses and Dissertations
Electrophysiological behavior of human hearts have been extensively studied for hundreds of years. Even with elucidation of not just biological function, but also time and frequency-dependent current flow, the sheer intricacy of in vivo cardiac tissue function remains somewhat enigmatic. All while heart disease has been the leading cause of death in the United States for over a century, with its rates of occurrence still increasing annually [1]. Thus, new research techniques and tools to quantify cardiac function are still being pursued at smaller and smaller scales to decrease research/innovation time, cost, and diagnostic ambiguity. In fact, it remains incredibly …

Oncolytic virotherapy has shown great promise in mediating targeted tumor destruction through tumor-selective replication and induction of anti-tumor immunity; however, obstacles remain for virus candidates to reach the clinic. These include avoiding neutralizing antibodies, preventing stimulation of the adaptive immune response during intravenous administration, and inducing sufficient apoptosis and immune activation so that the body's defense can work to eradicate systemic disease. We have developed a co-formulation of oncolytic viruses (OVs) with Imagent lipid-encapsulated, perfluorocarbon microbubbles (MBs) to protect the OVs from the innate and adaptive immune system. Once inside the MB, the viral particles become acoustically active such that …

Sodium bicarbonate has been used in the treatment of different pathologies, such as hyperkalemia, cardiac arrest, tricyclic antidepressant toxicity, aspirin toxicity, acute acidosis, lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, rhabdomyolysis, and adrenergic receptors' resistance to catecholamine in patients with shock. An ongoing debate about bicarbonate's efficacy and potential harm has been raised for decades because of the lack of evidence supporting its potential efficacy. Despite the guidelines' restrictions, sodium bicarbonate has been overused in clinical practice. The overuse of sodium bicarbonate could be because of the desire to correct the arterial blood gas parameters rapidly instead of achieving homeostasis by treating the …
Secular Formations Of Sacred Music: Schleiermacher, Romanticism, And Devotional Media In Germany, Desmond Sheehan
Secular Formations Of Sacred Music: Schleiermacher, Romanticism, And Devotional Media In Germany, Desmond Sheehan
Yale Journal of Music & Religion
Theologians and musicologists alike have often disregarded the material and technical facets of devotional scenes such as the one meticulously described in Schleiermacher’s Christmas Eve Celebration: A Dialogue (1806). More recent musicologists have highlighted more concealed technologies that helped to facilitate Romantic aesthetic experiences – a form of methodological unmasking that at once denies and reclaims a Schillerian notion of disenchantment. This essay argues that both types of studies perpetuate secularization narratives that displace a Christian religiosity into public artforms and social practices in Romanticism, and secular modernity by extension. As a proposed alternative, a media history of sacred music …
The Vagina Dentata: A Case For Unlocking Mouths, Loosing Hips, And Spreading The Gospel Of Healing Women's Sexual Performance Anxiety, Alisha Lola Jones
The Vagina Dentata: A Case For Unlocking Mouths, Loosing Hips, And Spreading The Gospel Of Healing Women's Sexual Performance Anxiety, Alisha Lola Jones
Yale Journal of Music & Religion
This article explores how vagina dentata folklore—stories and imagery about a mythical "toothed vagina"—connects to the ways Black religious communities often cultivate silence around women’s sexual lives, particularly within the “Worth the Wait” and Word of Faith movements. Ignited by womanist religious ethnographer Monique Moultrie’s scholarship on sexual silence in these movement, I take seriously the musicological chasm by exploring how these ministries influence Black women’s sexual agency and moral decision-making through inequitable theological procedures and discourses. The vagina dentata metaphor emerges as a symbol of constrained appetites—respiratory (larynx), digestive (intestine, anus), and reproductive (uterus, vagina)—reflecting broader sociocultural and religious …
An Analysis Of Due Process Hearing Decisions For “§ 504-Only” Students, Perry A. Zirkel
An Analysis Of Due Process Hearing Decisions For “§ 504-Only” Students, Perry A. Zirkel
Journal of the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary
Many empirical analyses have tracked the trends for both the frequency and outcomes of due process hearing decisions under the IDEA. However, the literature entirely lacks any such analysis of due process hearing decisions under § 504. This gap in the literature is largely attributable to two overlapping factors: these decisions are much less numerous than those under the IDEA, and they are not publicly available. The purpose of this article is to address this gap in the professional literature through an exploratory analysis of the frequency and outcomes of due process hearings for § 504-only students. Part I of …
