Whose Library Is It? A Youth Participatory Action Research Study Examining School Libraries As Culturally Sustaining Environments From The Students' Perspectives, Salamah Adjoua-Mullen
Theses & Dissertations
Traditionally, school libraries are assumed to be spaces of positivity and inclusion free from bias and discrimination. However, school libraries have not remained untouched by harmful school policies and state educational laws. Recently, new policies and laws have begun to restrict the role of librarians and library spaces are continuously being eliminated from school districts across the United Sates. One issue is the library profession has examined the library as a room but not the concept of what a library space is or can be. One approach to addressing this gap is by examining school libraries through the lens of …

Trans/Feminist Collaborative Autoethnographic Storying Of Gender-Based Violence, During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Lesley Murray, Jessica Moriarty, Amanda Holt, Sian Lewis, Mel Parks
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
The COVID-19 crisis has spotlighted particular insidious social problems, including gender-based violence (GBV), and their relationship with movement and confinement. As well as changing configurations of GBV, the experience of the global pandemic and the immobilities of national lockdowns have created space to imagine GBV – to connect with past experiences in the context of our rethinking of current experiences across multiple spaces. In this article we explicate a transdisciplinary feminist collaborative autoethnographic storying of GBV during the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the ‘trans/feminist methodology’ of Pryse (2000), we seek to contribute knowledge of GBV through the lens of COVID-19 …

Acculturation Stress And The Coping Skills Of African Immigrant Men In The United States, Emmanuel Oppong
Acculturation Stress And The Coping Skills Of African Immigrant Men In The United States, Emmanuel Oppong
Harold L. Hodgkinson Award for Outstanding Dissertation
African immigrant men living in the United States experience the process of acculturation and encounter varying stressors while adjusting to their new society. Despite the growing population of African immigrant men living in the United States, research on acculturative stress and coping excluded first-generation African immigrant men. The purpose of this descriptive phenomenological study was to examine the lived experiences of African immigrant men, the types of acculturative stress experienced, and the coping skills used in managing acculturative stress while living in the United States. Berry’s acculturation theory provided the framework for the study. Data were collected from 10 semistructured …

Designing Secondary Level Physics Course’S Instruction Over Lms, Jimita Pokharel
Instructional Psychology and Technology Graduate Student Projects
This project aimed to revamp the science course delivery at a private school in the Tanahun district of Nepal, with a primary focus on transitioning from conventional in-person instruction to a blended learning model. The specific target was the 10th-grade physics curriculum, encompassing Units 1–4. The existing teaching methodology relied on paper-based materials and face-to-face lectures, lacking any online teaching or learning components. This transformation sought to address this gap, recognizing the increasing significance of online education in adapting to unforeseen challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and aligning with the advancements in the global educational landscape.
Effect Of Timing Of Energy Intake On Blood Glucose And Body Composition In Women With Overweight Or Class One Obesity, Michael Wade Smith
Effect Of Timing Of Energy Intake On Blood Glucose And Body Composition In Women With Overweight Or Class One Obesity, Michael Wade Smith
Theses and Dissertations
Overweight and obesity has increased in the U.S. Unfortunately, this increases the risk of metabolic dysfunction, such as diabetes. Meal timing has recently shown promise as viable options to minimize the risk of overweight or obesity and metabolic dysfunction. The primary purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate the effect of timing of energy intake on blood glucose in females with overweight or class one obesity (BMI=27-35 kg/m2). This study utilized crossover design with two conditions counterbalanced in random order. Participants completed two 2-week 1500kcal dietary interventions: 1) a big breakfast diet or BB (50% of energy intake between …

Towards An Efficient Machine Learning Based Phish Detection System, Hamad Alfalasi
Theses
Over the recent past, the world has experienced a digital revolution that has profoundly transformed many aspects of human life. This revolution has redefined the way individuals interact, how businesses operate, and how societies function. For businesses, operations have been fundamentally altered, changing the way they interact with customers and other businesses through digital tools and platforms used for transactions. Phishing, a deceitful approach, leverages technological and social tricks to access sensitive personal information, including financial details. A common attack mode involves installing harmful software on electronic devices to gain unauthorized access to personal information, particularly usernames and passwords of …

Sticks, Naomi Karen Miller
Theses
Sticks is a thesis consisting of allegorical sculptural objects informed by chairs and inspired by a transgender woman’s personal narrative. Derived from personal anecdotes and feelings, the objects form a constellation of moments in time. The body of work primarily consists of burned wooden chairs. The chairs are analogous to the self. Fire is applied to the chair to document change. My work is about the ways an individual is changed by small moments of interaction. It explores the relationship between identity, observation, perception, and time.

Mmmworld: Health Modern Food, Xindi Wang
Theses
The societal concern for maintaining a healthy lifestyle has endured the test of time, especially given the transformative impact of globalization, urbanization, and industrialization on dietary patterns. The evolution of eating habits, propelled by the modernization of societies, has ushered in unprecedented changes in the way people consume and engage with food. While modern diets offer unparalleled convenience and variety, they also introduce a plethora of industrially processed products, contributing to the inadvertent neglect of the intrinsic value of natural ingredients. This shift has, in turn, resulted in profound implications for human health, giving rise to an increase in chronic …

Anesthesia Agents And The Risk Of Postoperative Delirium In Adult Non-Cardiac Surgical Patients: An Integrative Review, Narah Latortue
Master of Science in Nursing Final Projects
Introduction: As patients recover from surgery, it has been recognized that anesthetic agents are an external risk factor for the development of acute postoperative delirium. Postoperative delirium (POD) manifests as inattention with changes in perception or cognition, altered levels of consciousness, and changes in motor activity such as agitation or lethargy up to seven days after surgery. POD is linked to increased morbidity and mortality, prolonged hospitalizations and recovery, and persistent cognitive decline.
Purpose: The purpose of this integrative review was to determine which anesthetic agents decrease the risk of postoperative delirium (POD) development in adult non-cardiac surgical patients.

The thioredoxin (TXN) system is an NADPH + H+/FAD redox-triggered effector that sustains homeostasis, bioenergetics, detoxifying drug networks, and cell survival in oxidative stress-related diseases. Elovanoid (ELV)-N34 is an endogenously formed lipid mediator in neural cells from omega-3 fatty acid precursors that modulate neuroinflammation and senescence gene programming when reduction-oxidation (redox) homeostasis is disrupted, enhancing cell survival. Limited proteolysis (LiP) screening of human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells identified TXNRD1 isoforms 2, 3, or 5, the reductase of the TXN system, as an intracellular target of ELV-N34. TXNRD1 silencing confirmed that the ELV-N34 target was isoform 2 or 3. This …
