Thermocatalytic Plasma-Assisted Dry Reforming Of Methane Over Ni/Al2o3 Catalyst, Tyler Wong
Thermocatalytic Plasma-Assisted Dry Reforming Of Methane Over Ni/Al2o3 Catalyst, Tyler Wong
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Plasma catalysis is an advantageous approach that combines the effects of plasma with the enhancements of a catalyst. By utilizing a nickel catalyst in the plasma discharge zone of a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), it can give an enhancement to the electrical field, boost microdischarges, and increase conversion and selectivity rates of CH4 and CO2 in the dry reforming of methane (DRM) reaction.
Industrial application of nickel catalysts in DBD Plasma DRM process are limited by poor stability, which is caused by the sintering of active metal particles and coke deposition on the catalyst surface. In this work, …

Cloud droplet number concentration (Nd) is crucial for understanding aerosol–cloud interactions (ACI) and associated radiative effects. We present evaluations of four ground-based Nd retrievals based on comprehensive datasets from the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Aerosol and Cloud Experiments in the Eastern North Atlantic (ACE-ENA) field campaign. The Nd retrieval methods use ARM ENA observatory ground-based remote sensing observations from a micropulse lidar, Raman lidar, cloud radar, and the ARM NDROP (Droplet Number Concentration) value-added product (VAP), all of which also retrieve cloud effective radius (re). The retrievals are compared against aircraft measurements from the fast cloud droplet probe (FCDP) and …
Using Quantitative And Kinetic Proteomics To Explore Proteostasis, Nathan Raul Zuniga Pina
Using Quantitative And Kinetic Proteomics To Explore Proteostasis, Nathan Raul Zuniga Pina
Theses and Dissertations
Every cell consists of carefully orchestrated biomolecules such as lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins. To maintain internal stability (homeostasis), cells maintain the right amount of these molecules at the right time and at the right place. This process is especially true for proteins since they are the foundation functional units within the cell. Proteins form structures and perform chemistry that bestows cells overarching functional roles. Cells maintain protein homeostasis (proteostasis) by modulating synthesis, folding, and degradation processes (turnover) to maintain the abundance levels for all proteins. This is the foundational kinetic model of proteostasis that is covered in this work, and …

Formation Of Hollow Solid Lipid Microparticles From Natural Waxes Using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide, Purlen Sezer Okur, Deniz Ciftci, Ozan Ciftci
Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications
In this study, the potential of natural waxes, namely, candelilla wax (CLW) and carnauba wax (CW), was explored to form extra-hard shell hollow solid lipid particles using a particle formation process based on supercritical fluid technology. Melting behavior and volumetric expansion of CLW and CW in pressurized CO2 were investigated as a function of pressure. The melting point of waxes decreased linearly with increasing pressures up to a certain level; then stayed constant regardless of further elevated pressures. The highest melting point depressions of 13.0% and 8.3% were observed for CLW and CW at 140 and 130 bar CO …

Isolation Of The Toxic Principle Of Moraea Pallida By Means Of The Sensory Receptors Of Sheep, Leendert D. Snyman, T. Stephanus Kellerman
Poisonous Plant Research (PPR)
Chemical fractions of Moraea pallida were offered to a sheep in which aversion to the plant had previously been established. Fractions refused due to the presence of the aversive substance sensed by the sheep were further purified until a single substance had been isolated. The purified substance was characterized as epoxyscillirosidin, the toxic principle of M. pallida.

Wearable devices like smartwatches, fitness trackers, and body sensors have become increasingly popular for health and wellness. Mobile Health (mHealth) uses wearable and mobile devices, wireless technologies, and data science to collect and analyze health data to improve health delivery and outcomes. However, privacy and legal concerns surrounding mHealth data make building a secure mHealth infrastructure a challenging task. Moreover, real-time sharing with many data consumers is another challenge in enabling temporally precise mHealth intervention. This dissertation proposes NDNHealth, a secure mHealth infrastructure over the Named Data Networking (NDN) architecture. NDNHealth provides a secure, efficient, and scalable way to share …

Aspirin has for some time been used as a first-line treatment for acute coronary syndromes, including ST-elevation myocardial infarction, for secondary prevention of established coronary disease, and for primary prevention in patients at risk of coronary artery disease. Although aspirin has been in use for decades, the available evidence for its efficacy largely predates the introduction of other drugs, such as statins and P2Y12 inhibitors. Based on recent trials, the recommendation for aspirin use as primary prevention has been downgraded. In addition, P2Y12 inhibitors given as a single antiplatelet therapy have been associated with a lower incidence of bleeding than …

Background: The relationship between obesity and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) was controversial, which may be due to the crudeness definition of obesity based on body mass index (BMI). As obesity and metabolic abnormalities often coexist, we aimed to explore whether the classification of obesity based on metabolic status can help to evaluate the real impact of obesity on the readmission of NHL.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, utilizing the 2018 Nationwide Readmissions Database, we identified NHL-related index hospitalizations and followed them for non-elective readmission. The patients with NHL were classified as metabolically healthy non-obese (MHNO) and obese (MHO) and metabolically …

The case involves a holdover proceeding seeking possession of a rent-stabilized apartment due to illegal occupancy. The landlord alleged that the tenant's occupancy of the basement/cellar apartment was unlawful, as it could not be legalized according to the New York City Department of Buildings. However, the court dismissed the petition, citing precedents that require proof of actual governmental violations or penalties for illegal occupancy. Without evidence of such violations or penalties, the court ruled in favor of the tenant, emphasizing the need for exhaustion of administrative remedies before pursuing eviction based on unlawful use.

Another Obstacle For Survivors Of Sexual Violence: The Effect Of Limiting Emotional Distress Damages In Title Ix Cases, Allison Mauk
Another Obstacle For Survivors Of Sexual Violence: The Effect Of Limiting Emotional Distress Damages In Title Ix Cases, Allison Mauk
University of Dayton Law Review
In April 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States decided in Cummings v. Premier Rehab Keller, P.L.L.C. that emotional distress damages were not recoverable in private rights of action brought under anti-discrimination statutes. Pursuant to their authority under the Spending Clause, Congress has enacted four distinct anti-discrimination statutes including Title VII, the Rehabilitation Act, the Affordable Care Act, and Title IX. In Cummings, a deaf and blind plaintiff sought emotional distress damages under the Rehabilitation Act and Affordable Care Act after she was denied an interpreter at a physical therapy appointment. The Court developed a test to determine whether …
