The purpose of this research is to carry out a traditional game, especially a kite, as an effort to overcome stress in elementary school students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Quantitative research with the type of survey research is carried out in this study. The sample in this study amounted to 10 students. The sample was selected based on being domiciled in a block whose houses were not far apart so that it was easy to condition them. This article discusses the kampilan sword in Jambi People’s Struggle Museum. Kampilan is a traditional weapon originating from the Philippines but has spread to several regions in Indonesia, including Jambi. The kampilan sword collection is often overlooked, and there is not much information regarding these objects, despite the museum’s primary function is research and communication. Therefore, we conducted a study of a collection of kampilan swords to explore information related to these objects, allowing the museum to utilize and develop them in the future. The Sayap Palace is a relic of the Pelalawan Kingdom, located in Pelalawan Regency. This palace was built during the reign of Sultan Assyaidi Syarif Hasim. The purpose of this article is to describe the process of the establishment of the Sayap Palace, its role in people’s lives, and its use in the field of education. This article uses the historical method with descriptive analysis techniques and literature studies. After the end of the reign of the Pelalawan Kingdom, the Sayap Palace was no longer occupied and then collapsed. The Sayap Palace’s restoration took place twice, in 2003 and 2015. …

Human beings share commonalities, many of which are intricately woven into literature. Literary works allow individuals to explore and gain insights into diverse cultures and ideas across spatiotemporal contexts. Against this backdrop, this study compared two literary works, Oedipus Rex (Sophocles, 1992) and Utenzi wa Nyakiiru Kibi [‘Epic of Nyakiiru-Kibi’] (Mulokozi, 1997), to gain insight into the two societies from which the stories are derived. Using Aarne and Thompson’s (1961) classification of the Oedipus story, the study finds that Utenzi wa Nyakiiru Kibi qualifies as an Oedipal story as it meets several Oedipal narrative motifs in the Oedipus story. In recent times, ecological studies have increasingly been employed to promote environmental awareness across various disciplines and regions worldwide. This paper specifically focuses on the repercussions of war and political violence on Iraq's ecology, which has been greatly impacted by conflict. Two noteworthy plays, Ishtar in Baghdad by Iraqi writer Rasha Fadhlil and In the Reeds by American writer Amy Merrill, shed light on this topic. Both plays, which primarily center on Iraq, underscore that those who fail to appreciate and value human life cannot possibly regard nonhuman entities with reverence. Shoulder sores predominantly arise in breeding sows and often result in untimely culling. Reported prevalence rates vary significantly, spanning between 5% and 50% depending upon the type of crate flooring inside a farm, the animal’s body condition, or an existing injury that causes lameness. These lesions represent not only a welfare concern but also have an economic impact due to the labor needed for treatment and medication. Insufficient infrastructural facilities make it difficult for a large number of students with visual and mobility impairment to walk around the campus and attend lectures. Also, fewer than ideal library facilities decrease the amount of study resources that are available to these students. This study investigated the school environment as barrier to effective academic performance among students with physical disabilities in the Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. Examines the Scottish poet Liz Lochhead's period of North American travel and her response to American second-wave feminist poetics, particularly to the anthology No More Masks! (1973) and the poetry of Adrienne Rich and Anne Sexton, the treatment of myth by J.G. Frazer and Robert Graves, and the perspective on Scottish fairy tales offered by folklorists, to explore Lochhead's creative reworking of both fairy tale and classical myth in her collections Grimm Sisters (1981) and Dreaming Frankenstein (1984).

David Henry Hwang’S Yellow Face: Fictional Autoethnography And Parody On Racial Stereotypes, Quan Manh Ha, Jacob Christiansen

Asian American Literature: Discourses & Pedagogies

Hwang’s play Yellow Face (2007), a dramaturgically inventive work, combines multiple narrative forms into a plot that blurs the distinction among social science, social commentary, and fiction. The play is simultaneously self-mocking and self-examining in its representation of the Asian American experience in theatre. It both examines Hwang’s own racial identity and boldly redefines conventional theatrical forms as the playwright places himself at the center of a highly embarrassing, fictional racial controversy in order to scrutinize the performativity of an Asian American identity. This article argues that Yellow Face is fictitious autoethnodrama as it acerbically parodies racialization.

The New Markets Tax Credit (“NMTC”) is a federal tax incentive used to promote investment in low-income neighborhoods. Many of these neighborhoods are home to historically marginalized communities. However, very few minority-led institutions participate in the NMTC program. This Article provides the first theoretical and empirical exploration of the underrepresentation of minority-led institutions in the NMTC program. Based on original interviews with representatives of Community Development Entities (“CDEs”), investors, borrowers, and consultants who participate in the NMTC program, this Article describes the “NMTC ecosystem,” a complex, relationship-driven network of NMTC program participants who influence decision-making and create opportunities for success …

This paper explores the representation of trauma and stigma tied to HIV/AIDS in The Blackwater Lightship (1999) by Colm Tóibín and Angels in America (1995) by Tony Kushner. Both works arguably respond to the socio-political and biomedical crisis that affected queer identities and international politics. These experiences of health and illness highlight the silenced and marginalized voices of those infected with HIV during the 80s and 90s. HIV/AIDS-related stigma and shame marked the LGBTQ+ community under the illness as punishment metaphor for their sexuality. The role of politics and religion remains fundamental in the historical silence around this illness and …

Contemporary discourse and literature surrounding dyslexia is often dominated by notions of disability, deficit, lack, vulnerability, and social expectancies around achievement in education. This paper explores that when students identify dyslexia as a limitation, it becomes a barrier to successful learning and has a negative effect on their identity, which impacts them socially and academically, leading to vicissitudes, voice suppression and what I term, academic imprisonment. The Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) contains a wealth of stories reflecting life in the ancient world including struggles and wars that prove(d) traumatic. It is shown time and again that history repeats itself, and the stories of the Bible reappear in the modern world, both real and (crime) fictional. In this paper, traumatic experiences associated with the German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer as well as the fictional character DI John Rebus created by the crime writer Ian Rankin, are linked with similar incidents recorded in the Tanakh. There has been an increase in the rate of suicide over the years, primarily linked to depression and mounting societal expectations imposed upon men. The prevalence of social media and the awareness that comes with indicates that the issue of suicide may never disappear unless action is taken.
