Guilty Machines: On Ab-Sens In The Age Of Ai, Dylan Lackey, Katherine Weinschenk
Guilty Machines: On Ab-Sens In The Age Of Ai, Dylan Lackey, Katherine Weinschenk
Critical Humanities
For Lacan, guilt arises in the sublimation of ab-sens (non-sense) into the symbolic comprehension of sen-absexe (sense without sex, sense in the deficiency of sexual relation), or in the maturation of language to sensibility through the effacement of sex. Though, as Slavoj Žižek himself points out in a recent article regarding ChatGPT, the split subject always misapprehends the true reason for guilt’s manifestation, such guilt at best provides a sort of evidence for the inclusion of the subject in the order of language, acting as a necessary, even enjoyable mark of the subject’s coherence (or, more importantly, the subject’s separation …
On Chatgpt And The Forces And Relations Of Production, Matthew Rellihan
On Chatgpt And The Forces And Relations Of Production, Matthew Rellihan
Critical Humanities
ChatGPT and artificial intelligence more generally are transformative technologies capable of liberating humanity from the necessity of burdensome toil. Recent discussions have neglected this possibility because they suffer from the sorts of cognitive distortions catalogued by Marx and the Marxist tradition. Technology fetishism, understood on the model of commodity fetishism, occurs when the use and development allowed by a certain mode of production appear as intrinsic features of the technology itself. Naturalistic mystification occurs when the socially contingent use and development of these technologies is made to appear natural and therefore inevitable. To those suffering from either distortion, it will …

Massive Upper Gi Bleeding From Duodenal Invasion Of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Successfully Treated With Embolization And Hemospray®, Patrick Twohig, Erin Walsh, Amy Calderon
Graduate Medical Education Research Journal
Direct invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) into the duodenum is a unique and life-threatening complication of HCC that has been rarely reported. A 60-year-old male with known HCC and cirrhosis presented with melena. Computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis showed a 7cm hepatic mass abutting the duodenum. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy demonstrated a large, actively oozing mass in the duodenum treated with Hemospray® followed by transarterial embolization (TAE). Active upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to duodenal invasion of HCC can be successfully treated with Hemospray® Endoscopic Hemostat and TAE.

Prostatic Utricle Presenting As A Midline Scrotal Mass, Kaitlyn E. Schultis, Bryant Van Leeuwen, John Makari
Graduate Medical Education Research Journal
The prostatic utricle is a remnant of the Müllerian duct located within the verumontanum. An enlarged, clinically significant prostatic utricle has classically been associated with hypospadias. Prostatic utricles often present with persistent lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent infections, and urinary incontinence. We present a prostatic utricle that presented as a scrotal mass concerning for rhabdomyosarcoma in a male with normal external genitalia.

Product Pricing And Return Refund Strategy In Two Layer Supply Chain, Abhijit Barman, Hiren Lekhadiya, Subhajit Giri, Tushar Mandanaka
Conference Articles
In the current situation of globalization, many businesses have adopted and implemented supply chain strategies, especially as their operations become more worldwide. Management of corporate operations over extensive supply chains is becoming increasingly important. Product recycling and product return policy are sustainable strategies to reduce environmental and economic deterioration. Additionally, to increase product sales with customer satisfaction, a return refund strategy is an essential strategy for a business organization in a competitive market. In this research, we have developed a manufacturer-retailer two-layer supply chain model with a return-refund strategy. We have formulated price and refund amounts dependent on demand for …

Effect Of Different Processing Temperature On Texture Profile And Flavor Of The Edible Bird's Nest, Shang Kexin, Qiu Shuang, Zhang Lan, Cheng Xiangrong, Wang Dongliang
Food and Machinery
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different processing temperature on texture profile and flavor of dried edible bird's nest. Methods: With dried edible bird's nest as the main raw material, the texture profile analysis of edible bird's nest at different processing temperature was carried out by physical property analyzer. The volatile components of edible bird's nest at different processing temperature were determined by electronic nose and solid phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS). Results: It was found that the adhesion of cooked edible bird's nest decreased significantly (P<0.01), but its resilience increased significantly (P<0.05) with the increase of temperature. 12 kinds of effective flavor substances were detected in the cooked edible bird's nest by SPME-GC-MS, including: 3 alcohols, 2 aldehydes, 2 esters, 3 ketones, 1 acid, and 1 ether, accounting for 6.23%, 49.34%, and 54.85% of the total detected substances in the cooked edible bird's nest at 95 ℃, 105 ℃ and 115 ℃, respectively. Conclusion: Different processing temperature affects the taste of edible bird's nest and the overall odor profile after processing. Moreover, higher cooking temperature tends to make the egg white-like flavor stronger. The volatile substances in the bird's nest stew at 95 ℃ are mainly acids, the bird's nest cooked at 105 ℃ mainly produces alcohols, and the edible bird's nest cooked at 115 ℃ mainly produces ketones and alcohols.

Using An Industry-Aligned Capabilities Framework To Effectively Assess Student Performance In Non-Accredited Work-Integrated Learning Contexts, Denise Jackson, Linda Riebe, Stephanie Meek, Madeleine Ogilvie, Alf Kuilboer, Laurie Murphy, Nathalie Collins, Karina Lynch, Mandy Brock
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This study recognises how Industry 4.0 is influencing labour market demands of graduating students and how ongoing discord between employers and educators regarding their preparation is driving work-integrated learning across the sector. Stakeholder involvement in capability development requires expected performance standards to benchmark students for learning and assessment purposes, especially in non-accredited contexts which lack defined standards of competency. Industry stakeholders were engaged to review, validate and extend an established capabilities framework to reflect mega-trends posed by contemporary work and to define dimensions of standardised assessment for the purpose of work-integrated learning. Findings highlighted the need for graduates that are …

Advancements In Panoramic-Dic System For Vascular Imaging, Zhuangyu Zhang
Advancements In Panoramic-Dic System For Vascular Imaging, Zhuangyu Zhang
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) has become an important imaging technique in biomechanics, known for its non-invasive, optical assessment capabilities. However, traditional DIC systems have several limitations in biomechanical applications such as restricted observational fields and challenges to maintain the sample integrity. Advancements in the DIC technique have led to the development of panoramic-DIC (pDIC) systems. The pDIC system addresses the need for more comprehensive imaging of quasi-cylindrical samples by utilizing a sophisticated array of cameras and mirrors. It employs a concave conical mirror, transforming a conventional binocular stereo-DIC setup into an almost infinite-view system, through the use of multiple cameras …
