The Role Of Cadherins And Ryk On Metastasis And Invasion In Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cell Model: Hs578t/Hs578ts(I)8, Ibis Iser

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Breast cancer is a major cause of death among women in European and North American countries, even with improved methods for diagnosis and therapy. The mortality of breast cancer is mainly due to the migration of the primary tumor to distinct sites in the body and is very common in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). This type of breast cancer affects younger woman and has a high recurrence rate. Unfortunately, TNBC is extremely difficult to control because of the absence of specific targets for treatment. Therefore, our research aim is to discover new therapeutic targets and identify novel approaches for …

Surface Reflectance Product Generated From Mss Using Smacaa And Validation With Respect To Ledaps, Rahul Kumar Shah Jan 2023

Surface Reflectance Product Generated From Mss Using Smacaa And Validation With Respect To Ledaps, Rahul Kumar Shah

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Landsat MSS 1-5 sensors were the only sensors that provided systematic global multispectral space-based observation of the Earth’s surface from early 1970s, but they lack Level-2 Collection 2 surface reflectance (L2C2 SR) products. This research proposes a method of generating L2C2 SR products for the MSS 1-5 sensors going back to the 1970s. The primary motivation behind this project was to validate the SMACAA model ability to operate on MSS sensors. SMACAA is based on the inversion of MODTRAN and the automated application of SDSU meteorological database, and does not require a SWIR band. First, the performance of SMACAA model …

Effects Of Agricultural Chemicals On Native Plants Of The Northern Great Plains, Gabrielle Bolwerk

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Agricultural chemicals are ubiquitous on the Northern Great Plains landscape and have negative impacts on non-target plant communities, even at small doses. Northern Great Plains grassland plant communities may experience herbicide drift from agricultural fields or be subject to livestock pharmaceuticals in grazing lands. My research objective was to evaluate if and how native plants are affected by agricultural chemical presence at different concentrations. In Chapter 2, I studied the effect of different concentrations of three common agricultural herbicides (2,4-D, atrazine, and trifluralin) on the germination, emergence, and growth of native plant species of the Northern Great Plains. I performed …

Ecological Impacts Of Anthropogenic Chemicals On Non-Target Species And The Role Of Plant Diversity In Ecosystem Restoration And Resilience, Shiva Torabian

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Understanding ecosystem processes in rangelands is of paramount importance for ensuring global food security, given their pivotal role in sustaining forage and livestock production. Central to this understanding are fundamental processes such as nutrient cycling, decomposition, and plant biomass dynamics. However, the use of anthropogenic chemicals in agricultural practices has the potential to exert significant influence on these critical ecosystem functions. A pivotal factor in this context is the plant diversity inherent to these rangeland ecosystems. Plant diversity not only provides essential ecosystem functions but also enhances them with the capacity to withstand and recover from perturbations. Ecosystems characterized by …

Biological Control Of Bacterial Leaf Streak Of Wheat Using Antagonistic Rhizobacteria, Ashley Frederickson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the world’s most valuable crops, and the primary food grain produced in the United States. A major disease in wheat production is Bacterial Leaf Streak (BLS) caused by the gram-negative bacterium Xanthomonas translucens pv. undulosa (Xtu). Very few management strategies are available to growers to manage this disease, as common chemicals do not provide adequate control. A number of studies have been conducted on biological control using Rhizospheric bacteria for the control of various plant diseases, but limited data is available on the efficacy of biological control using Rhizospheric bacteria for controlling Bacterial …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Neuromorphic chips provide a potential solution for sustainable computing, as they attempt to mimic the neuronal architectures in human brain and show great potentials in reducing energy consumption in the order of magnitude and also improve the computational performance. However, the fabrication process for neuromorphic chips is costly and currently based on trial-and-error, which adds complexity to the design process. In this paper, we address these challenges by designing and developing machine learning guided microfabrication process for Resistive Random Access Memory (RRAM), which is a key device in neuromorphic chips. Specifically, our research makes the following contributions: 1) we successfully …

Interval Analysis Method For The Uncertainty And Sensitivity Characterization In Transmission Line Systems, Ping Yuan, Lijun Jiang

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Uncertainty in electronic fabrication process could cause serious yield issues and stability concerns. Hence, identifying the resultant range caused by the uncertainty in the system is a critical topic in modern EDA design process. Monte Carlo method is considered as a golden standard but with many drawbacks. In the paper, we propose to use the interval analysis (IA) to analyze the signal integrity and power integrity problems in transmission line (TL) systems. Using the interval representing the uncertainty range of parameters in the system, the uncertainty range of the system can be derived by the derived analytical expression. It is …

A Data-Driven Approach To Multiresolution Analysis Of Near-Field Scanning, Yanming Zhang, Lijun Jiang Jan 2023

A Data-Driven Approach To Multiresolution Analysis Of Near-Field Scanning, Yanming Zhang, Lijun Jiang

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Near-field scanning has been widely adopted as a valuable tool in diagnosing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems. This paper proposes a multiresolution dynamic mode decomposition (MRDMD)-based method for analyzing time-varying near-field radiation. MRDMD executes the traditional DMD method recursively and hierarchically. The distribution of DMD eigenvalues determines the slow and fast modes in a level's decomposition, in which the slow modes are reserved, and the fast modes are utilized to generate the input data for the next level. Finally, the multiresolution time-frequency representation of the near-field radiation field is obtained. And the spatial distributions corresponding to each …

Assaulting The Citadel Of Section 230 Immunity: Products Liability, Social Media, And The Youth Mental Health Crisis, Matthew P. Bergman Jan 2023

Assaulting The Citadel Of Section 230 Immunity: Products Liability, Social Media, And The Youth Mental Health Crisis, Matthew P. Bergman

Lewis & Clark Law Review

The exponential rise in social media use among minors since 2008 is responsible for a precipitous increase in youth mental health injuries and suicides. These harms result from the design of social media platforms which elevate maximizing user engagement over providing minors with a safe online experience, yet social media companies benefit from broad construction of § 230 immunity to evade liability. Courts’ expansive interpretation of § 230 is historically analogous to the application of the privity doctrine in the 19th century to shield manufacturers from liability for designing dangerously defective products. The demise of the privity doctrine and rise …

Peptidases Are Potential Targets Of Copper(Ii)-1,10-Phenanthroline-5,6-Dione Complex, A Promising And Potent New Drug Against Trichomonas Vaginalis, Graziela Vargas Rigo, Fernando Gomes Cardoso, Matheus Menonca Pereira, Michael Devereux, Malachy Mccann, Andre L.S. Santos, Tiana Tasca

Articles

Trichomonas vaginalis is responsible for 156 million new cases per year worldwide. When present asymptomatically, the parasite can lead to serious complications, such as development of cervical and prostate cancer. As infection increases the acquisition and transmission of HIV, the control of trichomoniasis represents an important niche for the discovery and development of new antiparasitic molecules. This urogenital parasite synthesizes several molecules that allow the establishment and pathogenesis of infection. Among them, peptidases occupy key roles as virulence factors, and the inhibition of these enzymes has become an important mechanism for modulating pathogenesis. Based on these premises, our group recently …

Non-Linear Modelling Of Internal Geophysical Waves, Joseph Cullen Jan 2023

Non-Linear Modelling Of Internal Geophysical Waves, Joseph Cullen

Doctoral

Geophysical waves are waves that are found naturally in the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. Internal waves, that act as an interface between fluids of different density are examples of geophysical waves. The system set-up will incorporate a model with a flat bottom, flat surface and internal wave. The system has a depthdependent current which mimics a typical ocean set-up and, as it is based on the surface of the rotating Earth, includes Coriolis forces. Using well established fluid dynamic techniques, the total energy is calculated and used to determine the dynamics of the system using a procedure called the Hamiltonian …

Spectral Music; Why Create Compositions With Such A Limited Palette?, Iain Mason Jan 2023

Spectral Music; Why Create Compositions With Such A Limited Palette?, Iain Mason

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Theses

Spectral Music: Why create compositions with such a limited palette? The question I am trying to answer is why the composers within the spectral movement of classical music created their compositions with such a limited and challenging palette of sounds. With the extreme wealth of musical knowledge and a rich tapestry of sounds and movements within the classical and contemporary musical world, why was it that the composers in question who I will be investigating; Gerard Grisey, Kaija Saaraiho, and James Tenney chose to write music with a limited palette of sounds? The music to generalise is made up from …

In this review, some additional techniques initially only discussed for representing images are translated into audio. …

‘My Blood Is In It’: A Phenomenological Study Of International Doctoral Students’ Embodied Experience Of A University Campus, Anne Bentley Jan 2023

‘My Blood Is In It’: A Phenomenological Study Of International Doctoral Students’ Embodied Experience Of A University Campus, Anne Bentley

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Theses

Reflecting its Cartesian underpinnings, academic scholarship privileges discourse over embodiment, resulting in a lack of research about international doctoral students' bodily experience of Higher Education. International students represent a significant income stream for UK universities and offer the opportunity for the meeting of different cultures, minds and bodies. Using phenomenological theory and taking embodiment as its starting point, this thesis explores the implicit dimensions of international doctoral students' everyday experience of campus. Walking interviews, photo-elicitation and semi-structured interviews with eight international doctoral students yielded embodied, visual and discursive methods. Merleau-Ponty, Ahmed and Arendt were used to theorise the interrelated embodied, …

Explaining Organisational Business Process Adoption Mechanisms - A Critical Realist Perspective On Social Reflexivity And Process Affordances, Andreas Brönnimann Jan 2023

Explaining Organisational Business Process Adoption Mechanisms - A Critical Realist Perspective On Social Reflexivity And Process Affordances, Andreas Brönnimann

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The implementation of new business processes can be problematic for organisations. Employees tend towards reluctant behaviour when confronted with organisational change that requires adoption of new workflows and work tasks. The crucial importance of people affected by change has been highlighted in past research. While the adoption of new processes is beneficial to the organisation, deviations from or rejections of new processes can lead to increased risks, missed process goals, increased waste leading to lost revenue, and other unforeseeable outcomes.

However, the adoption of proposed processes by individuals only is less desirable, because the collective nature of processes requires choreographed …
