The present disclosure relates to a method and system for secure authentication of user devices based on an attribute value. The present disclosure suggests updating a new temporary attribute value when a user performs actions like locking, or shutting down a user device. Thereafter, an authenticated application or resource is accessed using the decrypted value, wherein the decrypted value is used to obtain the current HostName lock status value. If the current HostName lock status value is not the same as the predefined value in a decrypted string, access to the authenticated application resources is allowed, otherwise access is restricted. …

This study focuses on the mechanical behavior and failure responses of hard sandstones considering bedding dip angles. Through uniaxial compression tests of hard sandstones with different bedding dip angles, this study delved into the influence of bedding dip angles on the mechanical behavior of hard sandstones and the relationship between the bedding dip angles and fractal characteristics of hard sandstone fragments. The test results show that bedding dip angles produced negligible effects on the type of the stress-strain curves of hard sandstones. Determining setbacks from active faults is the “last 1 km” from active fault surveys to their application to seismic disaster mitigation. It is also a technique for blocking the risk sources of earthquake-induced chains of geologic hazards. Field investigations and experimental studies have demonstrated that buildings and structures can be free from catastrophic destruction caused by coseismic ruptures and offset of active faults provided they are kept at a certain finite distance from the active fault traces. The Fujian region, located along the southeastern margin of the Chinese continent, constitutes an active tectonic belt along the coastal area in southeast China, with complex formation and evolution histories. To understand the characteristics of upper crustal structures and basement structures in the Fujian, this study collected the Pg travel time data from four NE-trending deep seismic sounding (DSS) survey lines in the region. Employing finite-difference tomography, this study obtained the fine-scale velocity structure of the upper crust along the four profiles, revealing the lateral variations in the upper crustal velocity structure, basement structures, and shallow fault characteristics in the …

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is abnormal bone growth in soft tissues that results from injury, trauma, and rare genetic disorders. Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are critical osteogenic regulators which are involved in HO. However, it remains unclear how BMP signaling interacts with other extracellular stimuli to form HO. To address this question, using the Cre-loxP recombination system in mice, we conditionally expressed the constitutively activated BMP type I receptor ALK2 with a Q207D mutation (Ca-ALK2) in Cathepsin K-Cre labeled tendon progenitors (hereafter “Ca-Alk2:Ctsk-Cre”). Ca-Alk2:Ctsk-Cre mice were viable but they formed spontaneous HO in the Achilles tendon. Antimicrobial strategies for musculoskeletal infections are typically first developed with in vitro models. The In Vitro Section of the 2023 Orthopedic Research Society Musculoskeletal Infection international consensus meeting (ICM) probed our state of knowledge of in vitro systems with respect to bacteria and biofilm phenotype, standards, in vitro activity, and the ability to predict in vivo efficacy. A subset of ICM delegates performed systematic reviews on 15 questions and made recommendations and assessment of the level of evidence that were then voted on by 72 ICM delegates. The prevalence and clinical characteristics of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in the Mediterranean region of Türkiye have not yet been thoroughly investigated. Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of TMD in a sample of the population in this region and to characterize the clinical findings related to TMD. Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetic disease characterized by producing morphological and structural changes in tooth enamel. Objective: To highlight the morphological changes observed in teeth with hypocalcified AI based on scanning electron microscopy and microtomography analysis. Case report: An adult male had teeth seriously compromised by hypocalcified AI. The treatment plan involved removal of third molars followed by restorative and prosthetic treatment. After extraction, the teeth were analyzed by SEM and X-ray microtomography (microCT). Objective: This study examined the effect of toothpastes containing theobromine and arginine on the roughness changes of microhybrid composite, nanohybrid composite, and giomer restorative materials. Methods: A total of 90 disc-shaped specimens were prepared using microhybrid composite (Arabesk-Ara), nanohybrid composite (Herculite-Her), and giomer (Beautifil II-Gio). How did France’s refusal to take part in the war on Iraq in 2003 has created the conditions that legitimizes its future military interventions abroad? In this paper, a discourse analysis of the official French Foreign Policy Discourse is done to show why saying no to war in 2003 paradoxically allows France to carry out military interventions in 2015. The direct anticoagulants (DOACs), apixaban and rivaroxaban, are used for extended-phase treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and have labeling for dose reduction for this indication. The objective of this study was to better understand primary care clinician prescribing patterns of apixaban and rivaroxaban for extended-phase anticoagulation. We conducted a 21-question survey targeting members of the American College of Physicians and United States Veterans Administration anticoagulation management services. Survey questions covered prescribing behaviors for dose reduction of apixaban and rivaroxaban for extended VTE treatment, as well as questions related to the respondent's practice setting. Traditionally, researchers of sport and physical activity have considered playing video game to be an obstacle toward optimal health and social outcomes for youth. Numerous studies have been completed examining academic ability of student athletes. Since the mid 1980s, the NCAA has emphasized the importance of academics and mandated more stringent requirements for participation in intercollegiate athletics. Overall student-athlete graduation rates have improved significantly among many institutional members. However, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) student-athlete graduation rates lag considerably behind. This article delineates a study conducted within a psychiatric day hospital in France, adhering to the principles of institutional psychotherapy and therapeutic clubs that originated from the anti-psychiatric movement of the 1970s. The study specifically explores two activities within this framework: a music club and a video club. The primary objective of each club was to establish activities involving both the patients and the care staff to dissolve the boundaries between them. Additionally, these activities aimed to engage both patients and care staff in the conceptualization and execution processes, thereby fostering a collaborative approach within the psychiatric care setting.

Role-Reversibility, Ai, And Equitable Justice - Or: Why Mercy Cannot Be Automated, Stephen E. Henderson, Kiel Brennan-Marquez

A few years ago, we developed the concept of “role-reversibility” in AI governance: the idea that it matters whether a party exercising judgment is reciprocally vulnerable to the effects of judgment. This idea, we argued, supplies a deontic reason to maintain certain spheres of human judgment even if (or when) truly intelligent machines become demonstrably superior in every utilitarian sense. While computer science remains far from that holy grail, generative AI is raging through systems as diverse as healthcare, finance, advertising, law, and academe, making it imperative to further shore up our claim.
