Factors Influencing Mortality Of Bighorn Sheep (Ovis Canadensis), Emily Moberg
Factors Influencing Mortality Of Bighorn Sheep (Ovis Canadensis), Emily Moberg
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Reintroduced bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) in Nebraska faced a devastating pneumonia epizootic resulting in variable ewe reproductive success and poor lamb recruitment in many of the herds. From 2015-2017, no lamb recruitment was observed in the northern Pine Ridge subpopulation and as many as 60% of adults died. This was in stark contrast to the healthier Wildcat Hills herds to the south, where lamb recruitment was estimated to be between 50-70% during the same years. From 2018-2020, we radio-collared and recaptured 76 adult female bighorn sheep from 2 of 3 Pine Ridge herds and 1 of 2 Wildcat Hills herds. …

X-ray crystallography is a robust and powerful structural biology technique that provides high-resolution atomic structures of biomacromolecules. Scientists use this technique to unravel mechanistic and structural details of biological macromolecules (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids, protein complexes, protein-nucleic acid complexes, or large biological compartments). Since its inception, single-crystal cryocrystallography has never been performed in Türkiye due to the lack of a single-crystal X-ray diffractometer. The X-ray diffraction facility recently established at the University of Health Sciences, İstanbul, Türkiye will enable Turkish and international researchers to easily perform high-resolution structural analysis of biomacromolecules from single crystals. Here, we describe the technical and …

Breast and ovarian cancers are women's most commonly diagnosed cancers. Seeking an efficient anticarcinogenic compound is still a top priority regarding the aggressiveness of these cancers and the limited benefit of current therapies. Hydroquinidine (HQ) is a natural alkaloid used in arrhythmia and Brugada syndrome. As an ion channel blocker, HQ exhibits its activity by altering ion gradient and membrane potential. Considering the growing evidence of ion channel blockers' antineoplastic potential, we were prompted to test HQ's effect on breast and ovarian cancers. MCF-7 and SKOV-3 cell lines were used to inspect how HQ acts on survival, clonogenicity, migration, tumorigenicity, …

Turkish Journal of Biology
Shell-sheddable nanoparticles, composed of amphiphilic blockpolymers, have emerged as an attractive vehicle for the site-specific delivery of therapeutic agents. In this study, pH-responsive sheddable copolymers bearing an orthoester linker were synthesized via the ring-opening polymerization between γ-benzyl-L-glutamate N-carboxyanhydride and orthoester-bearing poly (ethylene glycol) macroinitiator (PEG-pH-NH2). The obtained poly (ethylene glycol)-b-poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate) (PEG-PBLG) could form stable nanoparticles in aqueous solutions due to the amphiphilic nature of the block copolymers. The PEG-PBLG-based nanoparticle exhibited good stability in physiological conditions (pH 7.4), whereas the nanoparticle was disassembled under acidic conditions (pH 5.0). The nanoparticles could encapsulate a photosensitizer, protophorphyrin IX …

Differences In Phq-9 Depression Severity Between Adults Receiving Ketamine Or Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Sophie Lake Oswin
Differences In Phq-9 Depression Severity Between Adults Receiving Ketamine Or Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Sophie Lake Oswin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) affects roughly 2.8 million or 1.1% of the United States population. Many traditional treatments of mental disorders including various types of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy do not provide adequate symptom reduction for clients, and many clients diagnosed with TRD seek out nontraditional treatments such as ketamine and psychedelics for their antidepressant effects. Due to the dissociative nature of psychedelic medication wherein resistance is reduced, and a trance-like state is induced, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) has great potential as an adjunct to ketamine therapy. Procedures of KAP have been in development for the last 7 years and a consensus on …
