Ecclesiological Sovereignty: Toward An Understanding Of The Sovereignty Of The Pope In The Context Of Luther's Responses, Erik Lee Grayvold
Ecclesiological Sovereignty: Toward An Understanding Of The Sovereignty Of The Pope In The Context Of Luther's Responses, Erik Lee Grayvold
Master's Theses
This thesis seeks to address the contention between the perceived sovereign power of the Papacy and the Protestant Reformers. It will first provide a historical survey of how the Pope came to understand himself through the history of the Church. It will then analyze responses from the Reformers regarding this topic, focusing mainly on confessional documents and responses to these documents from the Roman Catholic Church. It will conclude with a survey of Luther’s specific responses to the situation and how his response to Papal authority and sovereignty impacted this theological development. This survey will also acknowledge situations in which …
The Borders Of Theory: Towards An Artful Ontology Of Knowing In Qualitative Research, Cristina Valencia Mazzanti
The Borders Of Theory: Towards An Artful Ontology Of Knowing In Qualitative Research, Cristina Valencia Mazzanti
Education and Child Study: Faculty Publications
This article considers the ontology of theory as a shaping phenomenon in qualitative research by opening up its intersection with artistic dimensions of knowing and knowledge. We argue that the plurality of practices and perspectives for research hinges on what theory is understood to be. Thus, rather than approaching theory as something predefined, we draw on conceptualizations of the experience of art to articulate the being of theory as an aesthetic renewal of a shared human movement of becoming. We then illuminate theory’s potential as a multidimensional artful being by engaging with a subset of photographs of street art collected …

A Portrait Of The Leadership Of Women In Early Christianity: An Archaeological Study In Light Of The Historical And Socio-Cultural Contexts, Carina Prestes
Dissertations
Problem
The participation of women in the Early Christian communities is widely accepted. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on what was their role in these communities. Until now the study of women in the Early Christian communities has focused mostly in the writings of some ancient authors and a few biblical texts. These studies have been done mostly by theologians and historians. Such studies rarely take a deep look at the Greco-Roman background and at the historical, socio-cultural contexts. This contextualization can be quite fruitful and should be informed by recent archaeological discoveries of the first centuries of Christianity. Thus, …
Exploring Challenges Faced By Early Career Primary School Teachers: A Qualitative Study, Deborah Black, Gregory Hine, Shane Lavery
Exploring Challenges Faced By Early Career Primary School Teachers: A Qualitative Study, Deborah Black, Gregory Hine, Shane Lavery
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
This study explored the challenges faced by 23 primary early career teachers (ECTs) in their second, third or fourth years of teaching. Qualitative data were collected through an online semi-structured interview. Three themes were evident: parents, workload and behaviour management. These results were also reflected in the review of the literature. All three themes have been linked to increased ECT stress and have been found to undermine ECTs’ self-confidence. The results suggest that some challenges are potentially aligned to the stage of ECTs’ career development and that ECTs face different challenges as their teaching experience levels increase. A range of …

"Sky-High Motivation": Intradisciplinary Integrative- Courses For Excelling Teachers' Training, Yael Kimhi
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
In many teacher education programs, curricula are comprised of fragmented courses within an academic discipline. This longitudinal study followed one cohort of teacher trainees in a fast-track B.Ed. program in Israel and explored an integrative approach to intradisciplinary courses. These courses were organized around significant themes and issues. A mixed-method methodology was implemented. The data included 81 teacher trainee responses, 16 mentor responses, and 11 college staff responses. Data were gathered during three years at four different time points: 1) online questionnaire for trainees and mentors (end of 1st and 3rd year); 2) trainee focus groups and steering …
Teachers’ Experiences That Challenge Their Decision To Continue: What Teachers Really Need, Elizabeth Allotta
Teachers’ Experiences That Challenge Their Decision To Continue: What Teachers Really Need, Elizabeth Allotta
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Increasing global teacher attrition rates and the difficulty of filling teacher positions in Australian schools have led to rising concerns about teacher supply and demand. While attrition factors and rates have been known for over thirty years, little has changed or improved. This raises the question, ‘how and why do some teachers continue while others leave?’ A postqualitative ethnographic study into the experiences that have challenged teachers’ decision to continue highlights the complexity of the issues underlying teacher attrition with known attrition factors, in particular workplace and time, being compounded by unspoken and silenced challenges that contribute to teachers leaving. …
Scaffolding Methods And The Long Shadow Of Ramist Formalism: A Call For Correction In Teacher Education, Brian R. Moon
Scaffolding Methods And The Long Shadow Of Ramist Formalism: A Call For Correction In Teacher Education, Brian R. Moon
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Modern Anglophone pedagogy is characterised by some distinctive approaches to teaching and learning that set it apart from earlier instructional traditions. Among these are certain forms of scaffolding that emphasise students’ construction of knowledge. Such methods are consistent with a trend toward visible activity and display in pedagogical practice, in place of dialogue and inner contemplation. In ITE courses, scaffolding strategies are promoted to beginning teachers as novel and effective products of modern cognitive psychology and constructivist theories of learning. Here I offer a historical correction to that view, demonstrating that today’s popular scaffolding strategies have a much longer history, …

Sustainable food production is not negotiable if food security is to be achieved. Recent statistics show increasing food insecurity issues in Nigeria despite government policy and programmes in the agricultural sector. The study specifically described agriculture growth trend under three policy regimes and analysed the effects of agricultural sector policy on food security in Nigeria between 1960 and 2020. Secondary data on agricultural output, gross deficit financing, labour employed in the agricultural sector, land, and population were obtained from World Development Indicators (WDI) of the World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization Statistics (FAOSTAT), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and National …

Black Women's Relational Competencies And Ethical Leadership In The Workplace, S. Alease Ferguson, Toni C. King
Black Women's Relational Competencies And Ethical Leadership In The Workplace, S. Alease Ferguson, Toni C. King
Faculty Publications
Three qualitative case vignettes illustrate Black women leaders’ application of relational competencies to assert culturally informed ethical values in organizational life. Theoretical frameworks of Patricia Hill Collins’ (1994) theory of motherwork and Wilfred Bion’s (1991) psycho-dynamics theory of group development guide the analysis of Black women’s relational competencies. Methodologically, the data derive from the authors’ use of phenomenological review of over three decades of corporate and non-profit consultancies. This methodology entailed uncensored story genera- tion relative to the topic and culling of the story set guided by a rubric to screen for story features that exemplify group and relational competencies …

The Impact Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Employee Engagement And Performance In The Teleworking Context In The U.S. Public Sector: A Phenomenological Case Study, Elizabeth Nesuda
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
The global shift to telework during the COVID-19 pandemic has redefined work environments and created challenges and opportunities for the public sector. This study addressed a significant gap in the existing literature by exploring the relationship between employee engagement and performance in the context of COVID-19. This study explores employee engagement and performance in teleworking environments within the federal public sector. This study adopted a phenomenological case study design focused on understanding the experiences of public sector employees who shifted to telework during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research and interview questions were developed to uncover employee engagement and performance experiences in …
Evaluating Healthcare Student Learning Performance During The Initial Year Of The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Case Study, Maria D. Garcia-Villarreal
Evaluating Healthcare Student Learning Performance During The Initial Year Of The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Case Study, Maria D. Garcia-Villarreal
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a mass interruption to daily life lasting almost an entire academic year. Return to normalcy was hard won and phased over the following academic year. Neither time-period offered “traditional” learning experiences in academic institutions. The extent to which the operational shut-down affected academic institutions and their learners is just now beginning to be elucidated. Human resource development (HRD) is uniquely positioned to apply established and newly developed theories and applications to the study of this phenomenon. One particular case lends itself to observation. A major academic medical center launched a technology-driven state-of-the-art simulation education center mere …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The "BOOTLEG SHOW" by MRKREME is a curatorial project for an art exhibition that delves into the interplay between mass production, aesthetic values, and originality within the realm of contemporary art toys. Curated with a focus on examining the impact of distortion in art, the exhibition explores the nuances of value formation and how societal influences shape our perception of worth. The first part of this study is an exploration into the concept of art toys through the meanings of the words "art" and "toys" to better understand their roots. It examines the differentiation between a toy and an art …

The Ontological Politics Of Waters In Northern Thailand: A Hydrosocial Analysis Of The Ing River Basin, Thianchai Surimas
The Ontological Politics Of Waters In Northern Thailand: A Hydrosocial Analysis Of The Ing River Basin, Thianchai Surimas
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Through a hydrosocial perspective, this research illustrates how political contestation between different networks of actors in the Ing River Basin produces different versions of water, which reflect divergent interests, different meanings and water ontologies that underpin the tensions and conflicts. This research employs ethnography to study networks of actors involved in water controversies and tensions over the hydraulic infrastructure project in the Ing River Basin. The network of project proponents, including a state-led hydraulic institution, experts, farmers, and other actors, see water as a source of economic activities due to its close association with modern irrigation schemes for rice-intensive and …

Inclusive workplaces start with inclusive hiring practices and then the design and support of inclusive workplace cultures once a hire is settled. The process includes consideration of why you are looking for diverse candidates, writing inclusive job descriptions and job ads, inclusive interviewing considerations, and building an inclusive work environment and culture. Each of these considerations can be examined through a tripartite approach, exploring ways to ensure physical, intellectual, and social needs are addressed and met throughout each stage of the hiring and retention process.
