Peer Influence On Mental And Physical Health Symptoms: A Network Autocorrelation Model, Ashley N. Hall
Peer Influence On Mental And Physical Health Symptoms: A Network Autocorrelation Model, Ashley N. Hall
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Adolescent youth are similar to their friends in both personal attributes, such as gender and ethnicity, and exhibited behaviors. However, limited research has analyzed the role of peer influence on physical and mental health symptoms. The current study aimed to address this gap in the literature by investigating the association between friendships and individual health symptoms. A linear network autocorrelation model was used to examine the relation between adolescent friendships, physical health, and mental health symptoms in a sample of 336 seventh grade students from a Midwestern, public middle school. Results from the current study indicate a peer influence effect …

Propagation, Physiology And Biomass Of Giant Cane (Arundinaria Gigantea) For Conservation And Restoration, Sanjeev Sharm
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Giant cane (Arundinaria gigantea) is a native species to 22 states in the U.S. The species and its ecosystem are considered critically endangered, and the species has been reduced to 2% of its original extent. The species has a long cultural and conservation history. Large canebrakes were commonly found in Missouri in bottomland forests, stream and riverbanks, and margins of lakes. My research goals were to: 1) examine methods for propagation success from field to greenhouse to field; 2) examine the physiology of cane at one of the few current canebrakes, for greenhouse propagated plants, and field planted …
Effect Of Soil Ph And Indigenous Bacterial Populations In Selecting Rhizobial Endophytes Within Soybean Root Nodules, Brianne Danielle Edwards
Effect Of Soil Ph And Indigenous Bacterial Populations In Selecting Rhizobial Endophytes Within Soybean Root Nodules, Brianne Danielle Edwards
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Soybean plants fulfill most of their nitrogen requirement by developing symbiotic associations with four different rhizobial genera, including Bradyrhizobium, Sinorhizobium, Mesorhizobium, and genus Rhizobium. In general, members of Bradyrhizobium and Sinorhizobium have been reported as dominant root nodule endophytes under acidic soils and alkaline soil conditions, respectively. So far, it is unknown whether the selection of rhizobial endophytes is regulated by their ability to survive under different soil pH or driven by host plants regardless of their relative abundance in soil. This study was focused on the assessment of the potential role of soil pH in …
Developing Onsite Detection Methods For Grapevine Vein Clearing Virus And Grapevine Red Blotch Virus, Gregory Bryce Goodlett
Developing Onsite Detection Methods For Grapevine Vein Clearing Virus And Grapevine Red Blotch Virus, Gregory Bryce Goodlett
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Both grapevine vein clearing virus and grapevine red blotch virus are detrimental pathogens on grapevines in the Midwestern United States. The most effective method of control for these viruses is early detection and removal of infected vines. A rapid and equipment-free method of detecting grapevine vein clearing virus and grapevine red blotch virus was developed using the isothermal DNA amplification technique, recombinase polymerase amplification, in conjunction with lateral flow strips. The method yields testing results under 35 minutes and can be performed onsite, and thus provides a rapid and grower-friendly diagnostic tool for preventing diseases caused by the two viruses.
Thwarted Belongingness And Burdensomeness As Moderators Between Entrapment And Suicide Ideation In College Students, Tupelo Witte
Thwarted Belongingness And Burdensomeness As Moderators Between Entrapment And Suicide Ideation In College Students, Tupelo Witte
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
College students are amid their search for identity development, desire to meet social expectations, and are juggling stressors that often lead to mental health concerns including suicidality. The integrated motivational-volitional model of suicidal behavior has established a three-phase framework to describe the process of suicidality. Life factors and feelings of defeat lead to entrapment and suicidal ideation followed by suicidal ideation and behaviors, as influenced or intervened by moderating factors. This study used data from the American College Health Association National College Health Assessment III to further investigate the integrated motivational-volitional model and specifically the motivational phase and relationship between …
Body Shame And Wellness: Consequences Of Being Fat, Edith Halina James
Body Shame And Wellness: Consequences Of Being Fat, Edith Halina James
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
People who live in larger bodies have unique experiences which may influence their overall wellbeing. While primary care providers may choose to focus on weight and physical health, there are numerous emotional consequences to being fat, including social stigma and shame. Unfortunately, there are few studies researching the experience of fat people, resulting in a significant gap in knowledge. The present study seeks to provide some preliminary information about the fat experience, which can be utilized in future research and in clinical and interpersonal settings. A convenience sample of young adults (ages 18−30 years) was derived from undergraduate and graduate …

Best Practice Occupational Therapy Interventions For Addressing Trauma And Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Practitioner Guide, Madison Kay Ertelt
Best Practice Occupational Therapy Interventions For Addressing Trauma And Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Practitioner Guide, Madison Kay Ertelt
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) impacts approximately 3.6% of adults and 5% of adolescents in the United States and has pervasive impacts on occupational performance (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.). Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) likely encounter clients with PTSD frequently due to this widespread prevalence in addition to trauma being comorbid with a variety of mental and physical health conditions. Despite the widespread prevalence of trauma, many OTPs find that trauma-informed care is not adequately implemented in practice (Holman et al., 2022). There is a gap in the literature regarding occupational performance deficits experienced among clients with trauma, knowledge of …

Acting On The Need Of A Client, Caregiver, And Practitioner Seating And Mobility Guide, Aleksander Robert Kohn
Occupational Therapy Capstones
There is a significant need for individuals with a disability and specific mobility limitations to require a wheeled mobility device. Wheeled mobility devices allow individuals to gain and/or maintain independence and engagement in occupations. The evaluation, prescription, and fitment of wheeled mobility devices are complex, requiring clients and caregivers to use and maintain these devices in specific ways. Barriers caregivers face can include not positioning the client properly in the wheeled mobility device, damaged or missing wheelchair parts, or improper positioning of the straps and belts, affecting posture, which could lead to secondary complications.

Occupational Therapy Capstones
The perinatal period ranges from 22 weeks gestation to 2 years postpartum (Hoekzema et al., 2017; Seth et al., 2016; World Health Organization, n.d.). During the perinatal period, intervention is primarily provided by an obstetrician and gynecologist (OBGYN) during pregnancy. Typically, mothers are discharged on average 2.1 days after a natural birth (Podulka et al., 2011). Women are seen at 6 weeks postpartum where mothers’ physical health is the focus of the visit, leaving mothers' mental health concerns unaddressed and questions typically unanswered (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2012 & American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2012 as cited in Corrigan …

Radiology departments have contributed significantly to greenhouse gases including release of toxic imaging contrast media to environment. We feel Radiology also has several spectroscopy and imaging tools that may apply to monitor and support cleaner environmental goals. The current manuscript is one of the firsts to prompt Radiology to move in that direction by non invasive imaging of bio metals that are less abundant in biological tissues but play key roles as co-factors in tissue structure and function. Conventional analytical tools are mostly invasive and cannot characterize the native oxidation states of bio metals. We chose carbohydrate matrix of metal-rich …

Subsequent observations were conducted to evaluate the best fit for the implementation of an outdoor experiential music space. Based on the findings, a developmentally appropriate …
Enhancing Tomato Fruit Quality: Application Of Crispr/Dcas9-Mediated Methylation On The Pg Gene Promoter Region, Irena Komninakas
Enhancing Tomato Fruit Quality: Application Of Crispr/Dcas9-Mediated Methylation On The Pg Gene Promoter Region, Irena Komninakas
Holster Scholar Projects
Commercially produced tomatoes are typically harvested well before maturation in order to withstand domestic and international distribution. While this process ensures unspoiled goods, the nutritional value of the fruits have been curtailed as a result of premature harvesting. Previous research has found that the polygalacturonase gene (PG gene) is responsible for cell wall degradation of the tomato. In this study, CRISPR/dCas9 technology was employed to increase methylation levels in the promoter regions of the PG gene. This method is significant in that it epigenetically modifies the tomato genome using a technique that has the potential to develop non-genetically modified progeny …
Validation Of A Diagnostic Marker For Primocane-Fruiting In Blackberry, Isabella Vaughn, Alexander Silva, Carmen Johns, Lacy Nelson, Margaret Worthington
Validation Of A Diagnostic Marker For Primocane-Fruiting In Blackberry, Isabella Vaughn, Alexander Silva, Carmen Johns, Lacy Nelson, Margaret Worthington
Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences
Typical blackberries (Rubus subgenus Rubus) have perennial crowns and roots and biennial canes. The first-year canes (primocanes) are usually vegetative, while second-year canes (floricanes) produce fruit. Primocane-fruiting blackberries produce fruit on first-year canes and are desirable to growers because they potentially allow for a longer harvest season in temperate regions and enable production in tropical areas where no natural chill hours are accumulated. The development of molecular markers for desirable traits can potentially increase efficiency in blackberry breeding. However, to date, there are no diagnostic molecular markers for economically important traits in blackberries. Primocane-fruiting is recessively inherited, and tetraploid blackberries …
Property As Service Streams, Lee Anne Fennell
Property As Service Streams, Lee Anne Fennell
Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series
Property’s job is to help people derive benefits from resources.1 But often it cannot do this work well. A core problem is an outmoded model of benefit production that treats the individually owned parcel or “thing” as the relevant unit of analysis.2 Property theorists often use the example of a farm to illustrate how ownership induces people to invest (in sowing) by granting them exclusive rights (to reap the crops).3 On this account, property holdings operate in a largely self-contained fashion, collecting inputs from owners and delivering the associated returns to them. The primary role of property …
Socioeconomic Rights In Latin America: Closing The Gap Between Aspiration And Reality, David Landau
Socioeconomic Rights In Latin America: Closing The Gap Between Aspiration And Reality, David Landau
Scholarly Publications
Latin America is the region where constitutional socioeconomic rights have been taken most seriously. There is a high level of convergence around the idea that socioeconomic rights belong in constitutions. Moreover, there is a growing regional consensus that socioeconomic rights are fully justiciable. The empirical record of judicial enforcement, on the other hand, shows more variance and is less transformative than this consensus would suggest. Courts most commonly follow models of enforcement that place relatively low levels of strain on conceptions of judicial role but are also less likely to have transformative effects. For example, many courts seem to prefer …

Expandable Intravertebral Implants In Post-Traumatic Vertebral Necrosis - New Classification Suggestion., Diogo Lino Moura, Josué Pereira Gabriel
Trauma and Acute Care Articles
The progressive evolution of post-traumatic vertebral necrosis and consequent loss of structural integrity of the vertebral body along with neurological risk, makes it one of the most feared and unpredictable pathologies in spine traumatology. Several studies have addressed the role of vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and corpectomy in its treatment; however, it remains a controversial concept without a defined therapeutic algorithm. The recent emergence of expandable intravertebral implants, which allow, by a percutaneous transpedicular application, the capacity for intrasomatic filling and maintenance of the height of the vertebral body, makes them a viable option, not only in the treatment of acute vertebral …

Thyroid hormone deficiency during development is known to cause anatomical defects in the cerebellum that lead to neurological deficits. It has been observed that insufficient thyroid hormone levels also decrease the levels of brain derived Insulin-like growth factor 1 (Igf-1). Given that the deficits caused by low Igf-1 levels are similar to those caused by low thyroid hormone, we designed this study to investigate if the deficits caused in the development of the cerebellum by low thyroid hormone levels may be due to the lack of sufficient Igf-1. We also sought to determine if ectopic over expression of Igf-1 in …

Agricultural run-off is one of the leading sources of environmental pollution in the United States. One major pollutant within this is insecticides, and among these, neonicotinoids which have become the most used insecticide class across the world. Neonicotinoids act as an agonist on the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) in the central nervous system of insects. Neonicotinoids are perceived to have low toxicity on non-target organisms however recently extensive literature has been published showing various effects on non-target organisms. Clothianidin is one of the most applied compounds belonging to the neonicotinoid class, yet few studies have investigated its chronic effects on …
