The Use Of Two Nurses, Four Eyes On Skin Assessments To Reduce The Incidence Of Pressure Injuries In Medical-Surgical Patients, Tiffany Bass
The Use Of Two Nurses, Four Eyes On Skin Assessments To Reduce The Incidence Of Pressure Injuries In Medical-Surgical Patients, Tiffany Bass
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) adversely affect at-risk patient populations and hospital settings. HAPIs increase the risk of death in vulnerable patient populations (Wassel et al., 2020). In addition, HAPIs cost healthcare agencies $9 to $11 billion annually (Padula & Pronovost, 2018). Inconsistent completion and documentation of the patient’s skin assessments both upon admission and daily throughout their hospital stay are identified barriers to improving patient outcomes. Implementing a Two Nurses, Four Eyes on Skin Assessment model upon admission and daily during the patient’s stay will decrease the incidence of hospital-acquired pressure injuries.

Gouldian Finch Monitoring: Foraging Activity And Grass Phenology - Goomig Project 2022 To 2023, J Graff
Irrigated Agricultural Development in the North
The Goomig Project (Weaber Plains Development Project) is an irrigated agricultural development located approximately 30 km north of Kununurra, which involves clearing of approximately 9,260 ha of vegetation for agriculture. Approximately 11,470 ha of native vegetation surrounding, or remaining between, the cleared areas is designated as a buffer area (the study area) to be managed to protect surrounding conservation reserves and watercourses (Strategen 2014). Monitoring of Gouldian Finch wet season foraging activity and phenology and productivity of grasses important for foraging in the buffer area during ongoing operation are required as conditions of the approval for the project, and is …
Music As An Ergogenic Aid During Resistance Training In An Adult Population: A Pilot Study, David R. Boulais
Music As An Ergogenic Aid During Resistance Training In An Adult Population: A Pilot Study, David R. Boulais
Master of Science in Kinesiology
Music has been found to produce feelings and emotions of power, reduce physical pain, and manage mood and affect. Ergogenic aids are regularly used in the resistance training (RT) setting to help improve performance. While the ergogenic effects of music are widely documented in aerobic exercise, research is lacking in the RT setting. The aim of this study was to examine the possible ergogenic benefits of music during RT workouts. Twelve individuals (mean age in years 49.8 ± 17.5 years) participated in the present online study, with nine female participants (mean age in years 48.2 ± 17.7) and three male …

An Unaddressed Role Of Nurses: Barriers In Promoting Reproductive Health In Pakistan: A Commentary Paper, Rabab Vadivala, Arisha Amin, Sahar Jessani, Sara Hudani
Journal of Asian Midwives (JAM)
Reproductive health has a significant impact on a person’s overall wellbeing. Despite this, it is not given major attention. Many people are still unaware of the importance of reproductive health, and one reason for this is the often-overlooked role of nurses in sexual and reproductive health. Nurses, midwives and lady health visitors are the healthcare professionals that play a pivotal role in promoting reproductive health. However, due to several factors, such as burnout among nurses and a lack of educational preparedness, this role of nurses remains unaddressed. This article discusses the general determinants that contribute to the underutilization of nurses …

Dairy Science and Food Science Faculty Publications: 2022 to Present
In response to the demand for healthier foods in the current market, this study aimed to develop a new bread product using a fermented food product (FFP), a plant-based product composed of soya flour, alfalfa meal, barley sprouts, and viable microorganisms that showed beneficial effects in previous studies. White bread products prepared with three different substitution levels (5, 10, and 15%) of FFP were evaluated for physical characteristics (loaf peak height, length, width), color indices (lightness, redness/greenness, yellowness/blueness), quality properties (loaf mass, volume, specific volume), protein content, crumb digital image analysis, and sensory characteristics. The results revealed that FFP significantly …

A Public Health Educational Campaign For Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (Suid) Intervention, Elia G. Peralta Landeros
Master's Projects and Capstones
Purpose: The rate of infant mortality serves as a crucial indicator of the overall health of society (CDC, 2022). The five leading causes of infant mortality are birth defects, preterm birth, sudden infant death syndrome, injuries, and maternal pregnancy complications. The prevalence of infant mortality varies across states, with eastern states and minority-ethnicity infants having higher prevalence. This thesis proposes utilizing the Safe to Sleep framework to introduce Giving Breath, a public health education campaign that introduced breastfeeding as an intervention to Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).

Missed Connections In The U.N. Agenda: Applying The Women, Peace And Security Framework To The Feminization Of Poverty, Lauren A. Fleming
Missed Connections In The U.N. Agenda: Applying The Women, Peace And Security Framework To The Feminization Of Poverty, Lauren A. Fleming
Michigan Journal of Gender & Law
Women, Peace and Security, a multifaceted agenda intended to address the particular ways in which conflict affects women, has been on the United Nations agenda since the landmark Security Council Resolution 1325 passed in 2000. The unequal burden of poverty on women, a phenomenon that has been coined “the feminization of poverty,” has been on the United Nations agenda for even longer, since the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women. Yet, despite the fact that poverty and inequality both cause and result in conflict in a violent cycle, the problem of the feminization of poverty has not been integrated into the …

We and others have previously shown that genetic association can be used to make causal connections between gene loci and small molecules measured by mass spectrometry in the bloodstream and in tissues. We identified a locus on mouse chromosome 7 where several phospholipids in liver showed strong genetic association to distinct gene loci. In this study, we integrated gene expression data with genetic association data to identify a single gene at the chromosome 7 locus as the driver of the phospholipid phenotypes. The gene encodes α/β-hydrolase domain 2 (Abhd2), one of 23 members of the ABHD gene family. We validated …
Implementation Of A Nurse-Driven Early Mobility Protocol In Critical Care To Reduce Intensive Care Unit Acquired Weakness (Icuaw), Wendy Key
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Intensive care unit acquired muscle weakness (ICUAW) is a syndrome of general weakness that occurs while a patient has a critical illness. Almost half of all ICU patients develop ICUAW. The most common occurrence of ICUAW is seen in patients diagnosed with prolonged mechanical ventilation, severe sepsis, or difficulty weaning from mechanical ventilation (MV). Bedrest is the number one risk factor for the development of ICUAW and the elderly are at higher risk. The best treatment for ICUAW is early mobility which has shown positive effects for decreasing ventilator days and intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (LOS). …

Sheep Worms – Sustainable Summer-Autumn Worm Control, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia
Animal production and livestock factsheets
A summer drenching program for sheep worm control is now recognised as a key cause of drench resistance in Western Australia. However, some small changes can increase the sustainability of pre-emptive control programs. Drenches in summer should always be given to younger, growing sheep (current and previous year’s age groups), whereas adult sheep should be drenched in autumn, or if drenched in summer, some should be left untreated (if drenching at all). Research shows that this reduces the chance of developing drench resistance but still provides effective worm control.

Preliminary Validation Of Digital Photography To Assess The Home Food Environment, Daniela Quan, Isaac Michael, Elizabeth Gollub
Faculty Publications
The home food environment (HFE), the availability and accessibility of foods and food products within the home, has a strong influence on healthy eating behaviors. Studies assessing the HFE commonly utilize a home food inventory (HFI) for data collection. However, this approach tends to be burdensome for participants. This study validated a low-burden digital photo method for assessing the home food environment and confirmed that this method is preferred by participants. Study participants completed an HFI, submitted photos of household foods, then identified preference for the HFI or photo reporting method. Researchers completed an HFI based on each participant’s photo …

Louisiana Agriculture
Rice, alligators and sugarcane are quintessential Louisiana products, and LSU AgCenter researchers and extension agents devote themselves to helping the producers who grow them. Economists are finding ways to improve the market for alligators while specialists focus on innovation in the sugar industry and creating new varieties of rice.
AgCenter researchers also have an eye on the natural world. They are protecting the roseau cane that thrives on the coast and the ironwood trees of Guam. All these efforts are detailed in this issue of Louisiana Agriculture magazine.
