This report serves as a 2023 snapshot of key issues and concerns with Utah’s shared resources. It highlights gathered data that is available to provide context to these issues, as well as identifies areas where more study is needed. Addressing these challenges will enable Utah policymakers to make informed decisions for the future. Under the authorship of 43 researchers and experts and the general guidance of 49 advisory committee members, the report outlines 32 issues and trends to pay attention to in the coming months and years.

Introduction

Use of affordable and simple tools for screening chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is limited. In recent years, measurement of forced expiratory volume in the 6 s (FEV6) has been researched as a substitute to replace forced vital capacity measurements. This work was performed to analyze the effectiveness of a simplified handheld forced expiratory flowmeter device and to search an optimal cutoff value of FEV1/FEV6 to detect airflow narrowing and limitation.

It is affected by a variety of factors, including smoking, poor nutritional status, immunological inadequacy, and prolonged use of contraception. Cracks in concrete often occur because of environmental factors like moisture, chemical attacks, and temperature changes. This study investigates utilizing microbial induced calcite precipitation (MICP) to address concrete cracking. Bacillus Sphaericus strain is introduced into cement mortar to enhance its physical and mechanical properties, focusing on crack healing. (MICP) microbial induced calcite precipitation reduces water absorption and capillary coefficient by filling cracks with calcium carbonate using bacterial nutrients. After a duration of 90 days, the bacterial samples exhibit a noteworthy decrease in both capillary action and water absorption when contrasted with the control samples.
