Vegetation Dynamics And Sea-Level Changes In The Upper Gulf Of Thailand, Dissaya Sukaudom Jan 2023

Vegetation Dynamics And Sea-Level Changes In The Upper Gulf Of Thailand, Dissaya Sukaudom

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Climate change plays a role in sea level fluctuation, either transgression or regression leads to coastline evolution. Samut Sakhon province is located on the coast in the upper Gulf of Thailand therefore past sea-level studies in this area can contribute information to a better understanding of sediment dynamics and assess future coastline development. The study site provides sedimentary sequences consisting of 9 sediment units from 25.5-7.2 m. DBS, results of LOI, Ti/Ca, and Zr/Rb ratio, grain size, and pollen analysis were interpreted together with radiocarbon dating to reconstruct past environments in the study site. The past environment in Samut Sakhon …

Chitosan Blending With Water-Soluble Polymers As Dissolving Microneedles For Controlled Drug Release, Fuad Abdullah Farhan Saleh Jan 2023

Chitosan Blending With Water-Soluble Polymers As Dissolving Microneedles For Controlled Drug Release, Fuad Abdullah Farhan Saleh

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Chitosan has gained significant interest due to its ability to film-forming, biodegradability, and biocompatibility, making it suitable for topical and transdermal drug delivery such as fabricating microneedles. In this study, chitosan microneedles were prepared by incorporating polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in three different ratios (1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 chitosan: polymers) to control drug release. The microneedles were fabricated using a molding method, their mechanical properties were tested using the universal testing machine (UTM), and their skin penetration ability was tested using pig skin (ex vivo). The results indicated that the microneedles exhibited sufficient strength to penetrate the outer …

Bolt Classification System For Motorcycle Retail Shop, Monchai Angkapiyasiri Jan 2023

Bolt Classification System For Motorcycle Retail Shop, Monchai Angkapiyasiri

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The COVID-19 situation in Thailand has led to a rise in online purchase orders, resulting in a higher demand for using motorcycles for shipment, which has also increased the demand for essential components, notably durable and aesthetically pleasing bolts. To enrich their business opportunities, bolts of 19 classes are gathered from a motorcycle shop to establish a systematic bolt classification procedure containing feature extraction stage and classification stage. A feature extraction is formulated from utilization of steps, which are background removal, contour extraction, image rotation, cropping, structural analysis, dominant color analysis, hole detection, and calculating head-to-whole length ratio. Subsequently, five …

Restricting Scientific Legitimacy In The Age Of Biotechnology?, George P. Smith Ii Jan 2023

Restricting Scientific Legitimacy In The Age Of Biotechnology?, George P. Smith Ii

Scholarly Articles

In the Age of Biotechnology, there is no more pressing question than whether a philosophy of science exists and translates into a notion that—with or without qualification—the sovereignty of science is central to the advancement of society and should be totally emancipated from concurrence or oversight by society at large. Far too many Americans choose neither to be “informed” nor to accept the responsibilities of citizenship to participate fully in a deliberative democracy—they have chosen instead to exercise their “right” to remain ignorant. Consequently, science reigns without restraint or even review. The scientific community has a coordinated responsibility to society, …
