A Systems Approach To Process Design And Sustainability - Synergy Via Pollution Prevention, Control, And Source Reduction, Emmanuel Apau Aboagye
A Systems Approach To Process Design And Sustainability - Synergy Via Pollution Prevention, Control, And Source Reduction, Emmanuel Apau Aboagye
Theses and Dissertations
Historically, process design prioritized efficiency and profitability, often overlooking environmental and societal implications. However, given the global challenges like climate change and resource scarcity, there is a growing emphasis on embedding sustainability into process design. Adopting a systems-oriented approach provides a comprehensive view, spanning from raw material acquisition to end-of-life product management. Such an approach not only identifies potential sustainability challenges but ensures that solutions foster both environmental responsibility and economic viability. In this study, a comprehensive framework for designing industrial systems is introduced, aiming to encompass the entire lifecycle impacts of chemical processes. The research initially delves into two …

The Effect Of Postoperative Naloxone In Certain Otolaryngologic Surgeries, Natalie M. Perlov, Sohan S. Shah, Joann Bluj, Zachary D. Urdang, Rebecca C. Chiffer
Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Faculty Papers
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association of postoperative naloxone with the development of new substance use disorder (SUD), overdose, and death within 6 months of otolaryngologic surgery.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort database study on TriNetX.
METHODS: Adult patients who underwent tonsil surgery (noncancerous), thyroid/parathyroid, septorhinoplasty, otology/neurotology, sinus/anterior skull base, and head and neck cancer surgeries between January 2003 and April 2023. Patients were excluded if they had an instance of SUD or overdose recorded in their charts prior to surgery, or had undergone another surgery within that 6-month time frame. We hypothesized that patients prescribed naloxone postoperatively would have decreased odds …

The Dangers Of Drought And Ways To Confront And Adapt To It In Iraq In Light Of Climate Change, Qusay Fadel Al-Husseini
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The title (risks of drought and methods of confrontation and adaptation to it in Iraq in light of climate changes) In light of the water scarcity resulting from the record low levels of precipitation, mismanagement of water resources, and the decline in water imports into the Tigris and Euphrates rivers from the upstream countries, drought conditions were exacerbated by the risks associated with climate change, which in turn contributed to a decrease in the rate of precipitation, an increase in temperatures and evaporation. all over Iraq.

Energy Security In Europe In Light Of The Russian Invasion Of Ukraine: Natural Gas Supplies As A Model, Adnan Kazem Jabbar Al-Shaibani, Hamida Abdel Hussein, Aaiad Abdul Reda
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
This research argues that European energy security was and still is subject to Russian hegemony, especially in natural gas supplies, and that the data of the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the beginning of 2022 put it in a more critical situation than before, despite the shy European attempts to achieve it. The Russian invasion of Ukraine contributed to a tenfold increase in energy prices, including natural gas, in 2022, due to a 74% drop in exports in the third quarter of the same year. In contrast, gas consumption amounted to an estimated 59.3 billion cubic meters. In fact, European …

The Impact Of Climate Changes On The Surface Water Environment In Muthanna Governorate And Its Development Implications, Haider Khairy Ghadia Al-Budairi
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
The impact of climate change is one of the most important causes of water scarcity and drought that Iraq suffers from in general, especially the central and southern regions, which are the most affected, including Al-Muthanna Governorate. The amounts of precipitation led to a decrease in the discharges of the Euphrates River in the study area from (449) m3/sec in 1978 to (111.2) m3/sec in 2022, noting that the rain contributes to feeding the Iraqi rivers by (42-49%) of the total sources. other nutrition, there is no doubt that this huge decrease in the amount of expenditures affected the various …

The Curious Case Of Justice Neil Gorsuch, Justin Burnworth
The Curious Case Of Justice Neil Gorsuch, Justin Burnworth
Pace Law Review
Justice Gorsuch has a propensity for unexpected decisions. His opinions in Bostock v. Clayton County, United States v. Vaello Madero, and McGirt v. Oklahoma confounded the legal community at large. Some argue that his Western upbringing played a role. Others argue that his time clerking for Justice Kennedy primed him for unpredictable decisions. These explanations do not get at the core of Justice Gorsuch’s legal reasoning. This article dives into the depths of these opinions to extract his “Enduring” theories of law. I argue that legal scholarship has incorrectly viewed these three decisions as isolated incidents when they are best …

This article contemplates and advocates for the use of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) through Large Language Models (“LLM”) in legal practice. The author ultimately addresses the need to orient LMMs within varying legal contexts including academia, private practice, as well as the U.S. court system. Additionally, the author emphasizes the inevitability of AI and LLM systems infiltrating legal practice, and the reality that the industry must acknowledge and accept these systems to regulate and to provide better while still ethical legal services. Large Language Models: AI’s Legal Revolution, begins by walking the reader through the history of technological innovation of AI, …

Visions in Leisure and Business
The primary influence of RVing and Camping is a desire or reconnection to nature and a simpler life. These desires are caused by a stressful society and the ability to find the means and the platform to achieve and understand oneself through a meaningful lifestyle. Many individuals desire to reconnect to activities of their youth and others are attracted through the process of environmental factors. Whatever the process, there is a growing demand for an RVing lifestyle. Individuals are constantly adapting and reinventing the movement to meet their needs.

Melanoma accounts for a small proportion of skin cancers diagnosed each year, but it has a high degree of malignancy and rapid progression, resulting in a short survival period for patients. The incidence of melanoma continues to rise, and now melanoma accounts for 1.7% of cancer diagnoses worldwide and is the fifth most common cancer in the United States. With the development of high-throughput sequencing technologies, the understanding of the pathophysiology of melanoma had also been improved. The most common activating mutations in melanoma cells are BRAF , NRAS , and KIT mutations, which disrupt cell signaling pathways related to …

Nanoparticles Used In Treatment And Diagnosis Of Leishmaniasis In Iraq: A Review, Harith S. Al-Warid, Layla M. Hasan
Al-Esraa University College Journal for Medical Sciences
The aim of this paper is to identify Nano-particles that have been used in diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis in Iraq. All experiments conducted in this field were based on the following nanoparticles: gold nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, zinc nanoparticles, and sodium chloride nanoparticles. Most of these experiments were reviewed in terms of differences in the concentrations of nanoparticles and the method that was used in the experiments whether it was in vivo or in vitro. These particles used in most experiments succeeded in inhibiting the growth of Leishmania parasites.
