A Pcl-R, Pai, And Rorschach Study Of Women Who Murder, Jason M. Smith, Carl B. Gacono, Ted B. Cunliffe
Archives of Assessment Psychology
Murder is antithetical to any traditional conceptualization of femininity or the nurturer role. Women do, however, commit murder, as well as a plethora of other heinous offenses. Understanding the personality of women who murder is of both clinical and scientific interest. In this study, we present the PCL-R, PAI, and Rorschach data of 24 incarcerated women who have murdered. We explored the interpersonal, affective, cognitive, and self-concept vulnerabilities that contributed to this behavior within the female offender model. The results were placed within societal contexts (i.e., media) as well as providing recommendations for assessment and treatment of this population.
Construct Validity Of The Capq And Pai In A Sample Of College Students, Tiffany Grezmak, Jennifer B. Levin, Amir M. Poreh
Construct Validity Of The Capq And Pai In A Sample Of College Students, Tiffany Grezmak, Jennifer B. Levin, Amir M. Poreh
Archives of Assessment Psychology
This study assessed the normative equivalence and construct validity of the Cleveland Adaptive Personality Questionnaire (CAP-Q, Poreh and Levin 2019), a relatively brief multi-scale personality inventory developed to assess personality traits and psychopathological states. The CAP-Q was administered concurrently with the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; Morey, 1991) to a sample of 109 college students. The standard scores for matching scales, computed using non-aged-corrected norms, were equivalent, with the CAP-Q age-corrected norms producing better fitting data. Additional analyses showed adequate convergent validity with highly correlated matching scales. Additionally, the multi-scale profiles were comparable across both non-elevated and elevated profiles. Overall, this …

Preliminary Validation Of The Traumatic Events Inventory For The Detection Of Fictitious Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (Ptsd), Amir M. Poreh, Salayna M. Abdallah
Archives of Assessment Psychology
Objective: The present study described the validation of the Traumatic Events Inventory (TEI), a novel self-report measure of Fictitious Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (F-PTSD). The authors hypothesized that the TEI would detect higher sensitivity and specificity of simulating participants compared to traditional measures. Methods: Four groups of volunteers were recruited. The first two groups were comprised of individuals with a self-reported diagnosis of PTSD or depression/anxiety, respectively; the third group was comprised of individuals without a previous mental health history who were instructed to simulate PTSD; the fourth group was individuals without a mental health history who received no instructions. In …

The Bulgarian And Greek Versions Of The Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale In University Students: In Search Of A Factor Structure, Stanislava Stoyanova, Vaitsa Giannouli
Archives of Assessment Psychology
University students face test anxiety regardless of their country of origin. Therefore, it is necessary to use psychometric measures with identified factor structures. The Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale (CTAS) has been used in different countries to measure the cognitive aspect of test anxiety. Although the CTAS has been used widely, its factor structure is a topic of debate. In this study, we focused on concurrent data collection in two adjacent countries (Bulgaria and Greece), with two aims: a) to establish for the first time the factor structure for the Bulgarian and Greek versions of the CTAS, and b) to investigate …

Examining The U.S. Disaster Management Program: A Case Study Of The U.S. Virgin Islands Hurricanes Irma And Maria Evacuation, Victoria F. Vachon
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractWhether from natural or human causes, every global community is at risk for overwhelming, destabilizing incidents. Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the U.S. Virgin Islands in late August and early September 2017, necessitating the urgent evacuation of hemodialysis patients over 1000 miles to the U.S. mainland. Because the damage and response to the U.S. territory were unprecedented, the public health implications of the government’s strategies on the evacuated population subset were unexplored. However, available information suggested that some evacuees sustained avoidable harm while in the protracted care and custody of the government. This qualitative case study, conceptually framed by Bronfenbrenner’s …

The Effectiveness Of The Ethics Officer’S Influence: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Exploration, Cheryl K. Douthitt
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The position of ethics officer was created to watch over corporate behavior. However, scandals have continued to demonstrate unethical leadership involving government officials, sports heroes, religious organizations, and corporate leaders. The research problem was that despite the adoption of corporate ethics programs and government oversight, there is a lack of understanding of ethics officers’ experiences, perceptions of effectiveness, and whether they effectively influence executive-level ethical conduct. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of ethics officers regarding their interactions with executives. Shaped by Brown and Treviño’s ethical leadership theory, the research question concerned the …

How Gender And Victim Blame Impact The Identification Of Human Trafficking Victims, Rudee Colleen Hanna
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Human trafficking is a worldwide phenomenon that uses fraud, force, or coercion to subjugate human beings into a modern form of slavery. Male and transgender victims have been excluded from previous research and as a result, the numbers of victims identifying as male, and transgender is unknown. This study examined the impact of gender and victim blame on the identification of human trafficking victims, particularly male and transgender. The theoretical frameworks of feminist theory and belief in a just world theory supported the study and supported the hypotheses. The research questions focused on the impact of gender and victim blame …

How Government Organizations Can Sustain Remote Work Post Covid-19, Chikwendu Pius Nweke
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractGovernment organizations are unprepared to sustain remote work post-COVID-19. Even though COVID-19 seems to be under control, organizations are still struggling with the aftermath of the pandemic and the need to sustain remote work. Challenges include lack of necessary information technology tools, software, technological skills, strategies for remote work, leadership skills, real-time communication; activity planning and program implementation, scheduling meetings, organizing child care, managing caseloads, fostering team work, and effective supervision. A conceptual framework based on organizational adaptation theory was used to guide this qualitative case study. Since the study was to ascertain how government organizations can sustain remote work …

Implementation Of Corruption Mitigation Strategies By Public Sector Leadership In Sierra Leone, Samuel B. Sam
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractCorruption is an elusive phenomenon, and it directly or indirectly impacts the daily lives of people globally. In Africa, leaders are partly blamed for persistent corruption due to poor leadership. Corruption persists in developing countries despite various strategies put in place to fight it. Sierra Leone has specifically struggled to implement mitigation strategies to reduce levels of corruption, and few studies have been conducted on lived experiences of public sector leaders pertaining to implementing corruption mitigation strategies in Sierra Leone. The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to identify and report on those lived experiences. The two conceptual …

AbstractAfrican immigrants to the United States face many challenges when diagnosed with obesity and other chronic health conditions. However, research concerning the role of cultural diets in preventing or ameliorating chronic health conditions including obesity has rarely focused on African immigrants. The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions, perceptions, and experiences of African immigrants on cultural diet preferences in the prevention of chronic health conditions, including obesity. Using the theory of assimilation and acculturation theory as a framework for the inquiry, the research questions focused on exploring the experiences, opinions, and perceptions of African immigrants concerning chronic …
Achieving Success[Ion] In Healthcare Leadership: Building An Immersive Nurse Manager Residency Program, Natalie Marie Fucito
Achieving Success[Ion] In Healthcare Leadership: Building An Immersive Nurse Manager Residency Program, Natalie Marie Fucito
Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses
Succession in nursing leadership is essential to the success of the profession. Successful nurse leaders prove cost effective to organizations by promoting key patient outcome indicators and attributes associated with a decrease in staff nurse turnover. Professional development opportunities and mentorship prove successful in retaining nurse managers to advance healthcare leadership. However, literature shows that new nurse managers lack those professional development and mentoring experiences that contribute to their success in this crucial role. In an era where volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity remain constants for new healthcare leaders, a change in traditional professional development programs is key to sustaining …

Enhancing Self-Efficacy Of Novice And Emerging Nurse Leaders Through A Virtual Emotional Intelligence Education Program, Josephine C. C. Garcesa-Duque
Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses
Nursing leaders are not equipped to meet the current challenges in healthcare landscapes (Sihvola et al., 2022). Significantly, 51.4% of novice nurse managers have the intent to leave within the next two years (Warden et al., 2021). Lack of traditional leadership development programs focused on emotional intelligence competency building, is one of the contributing factors (Spano-Szekely et al., 2016). Evidence shows that Emotional Intelligence (EI) associated with transformational leadership styles can influence job satisfaction and retention of NM & clinical staff (Frias et al., 2021). This DNP project developed and implemented an Emotional Intelligence (EI) Leadership Development Program, adapted from …

Implementing A Prediabetes Screening Algorithm To Improve Identification And Referrals In Primary Care, Katherine Masoud
Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses
Almost half (49%) of the United States population has prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes has many associated comorbidities and is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. It is also the most expensive chronic condition in the nation. Identifying patients with prediabetes allows for early intervention to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. The objective of this quality improvement project was to develop and implement a screening algorithm in the primary care setting using the Prediabetes Risk Test and point of care HemoglobinA1c testing to improve identification of patients with prediabetes …
Addressing Social Needs And Creating Community Linkage Pathways For Vulnerable Populations In Primary Care Practice Settings, Mindy Marie Matthews
Addressing Social Needs And Creating Community Linkage Pathways For Vulnerable Populations In Primary Care Practice Settings, Mindy Marie Matthews
Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses
Social risk factors, the social determinants of health associated with negative health outcomes, drive patient-level social needs that contribute to health inequalities, high medical cost, overutilization of services, and have a greater impact on morbidity, mortality, and quality of life than chronic diseases (Krist et al., 2020). While there seems to be a consensus on the importance of addressing social factors, most health systems lack the infrastructure to develop the screening and referral protocols required to address social needs (Alley et al., 2020). Primary care has been identified as a key setting to introduce strategies around identifying at-risk patients with …

Reducing 30-Day Readmission Rates For Copd Patients: A Care Standardization & Quality Improvement Project, Oana Raluca Randolph
Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that affects millions of Americans and accounts for close to 700,000 hospitalizations per year. On average, about 20% of patients hospitalized for acute exacerbation of COPD are readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge. The quality of care delivered to COPD patients is often suboptimal and fragmented, contributing to unfavorable patient outcomes, and high rates of readmissions. The purpose of this DNP project was to reduce 30-day readmissions and improve quality of care by developing and implementing a standardized Discharge Care Bundle for COPD patients in the …

School of Art, Design and Architecture
This article examines the research and development of a mixed realities play-kit to prepare children for an MRI scan to be undertaken without the need for a General Anaesthetic. The kit uses three different types of play; augmented, virtual reality and physical to help children become familiar with the look of an MRI scanner, the noises it makes, the role of the radiographer, what to expect when they go to hospital and to practise staying still. We reflect on the initial multimodal research methods that were used to bring children into the first stages of the design and development process. …

Perceptions Of Law Enforcement Officers Regarding Their Interactions With Persons In Mental Health Crises., Monica Roundtree
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Law enforcement officers are guided by principles to protect and serve the community in general; this includes persons with mental health illnesses. These officers are often the sole community resource responding to calls involving persons in mental health crises. However, many officers lack the knowledge and skills to effectively interact with this group. This quantitative study addressed how law enforcement officers perceive that a selected policy, procedure, or strategy is effective for interacting with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The theoretical framework for this study is the procedural justice theory. A convenience sample of 100 sworn law enforcement …

Viewpoints Of Classroom Teachers On Educational Issues Of Students With Interrupted Formal Education, Farah Merzier-Baudin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractMost research on students with interrupted formal education (SIFE) and English language learners (ELLs) documents their struggle with higher attrition rates and behavioral issues in high school. This qualitative study was conducted to examine high school teachers’ perspectives working with SIFE/ELLs in the classroom. Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory (SCT) indicated that students benefit from classrooms with high social interaction among all classroom participants and appropriate scaffolding of learning materials. Although SCT and most research focused on the students’ perspectives, this research focused on teachers’ perspectives. Data were collected from semistructured, open-ended interviews with 20 participants who teach or work with SIFE/ELLs. …
