The Implementation Of A Diabetic Foot Screening Tool Into A Primary Care Practice, Joanna P. Barnett Nov 2023

The Implementation Of A Diabetic Foot Screening Tool Into A Primary Care Practice, Joanna P. Barnett

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Inconsistent guidelines and nonadherence to diabetic foot screening recommendations are ongoing problems. This project aimed to promote the prevention of diabetic foot complications by detecting complications early and determining who is at high risk. An educational intervention provided for clinicians addressing the importance of foot assessments and the use of a diabetic foot screening tool was provided. After the education was provided, a pre-and post-test comparison was assessed for increased knowledge. Due to a small sample size and the need to assess results quickly, the plan-do-study-act method guided the project. Post-intervention, the goal was to have four providers increase the …

Immigration Incentives In Fcpa Enforcement: The Case For Protecting At-Risk Foreign Whistleblowers, Ken Krmoyan Nov 2023

Immigration Incentives In Fcpa Enforcement: The Case For Protecting At-Risk Foreign Whistleblowers, Ken Krmoyan

Duke Law Journal

In recent years, the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) has aggressively enforced the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”), which prohibits bribing foreign officials for business purposes. In doing so, it has relied heavily on tips from its increasingly popular whistleblower program, including ones received from scores of foreign countries. However, foreign whistleblowers enjoy unequal protections vis-à-vis their U.S. counterparts. For instance, foreign whistleblowers are not protected against retaliation for lawfully reporting information to the SEC. Worse still, some foreign whistleblowers are less protected than others due to inadequate protections in their domestic systems, and some face especially great risks for …

America's Other Separation Of Powers Tradition, Jonathan L. Marshfield Nov 2023

America's Other Separation Of Powers Tradition, Jonathan L. Marshfield

Duke Law Journal

As the Supreme Court returns many critical issues to the states, the structure of state government is increasingly significant to the American constitutional order. From redistricting to reproductive rights, battles are raging over which state institutions should decide these important issues. Yet there is surprisingly little scholarship dedicated to the separation of powers under state constitutions. Instead, state doctrine and commentary tend to mimic themes in federal constitutional law and parrot Madisonian ideas of constitutional design. On this view, the separation of powers is based on carefully balanced intragovernment rivalries fueled by the private ambition of government officers. This competition …

Loneliness Among College Students, Jaime Benson

Honors Theses

This study investigated the level of loneliness among health-focused scholars in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), Western Michigan University to improve student life experience, social opportunities, and support networks. We recruited participants from various CHHS programs using a convenience sampling method, requiring informed consent and program enrollment. The UCLA Loneliness Scale served as our measurement tool, allowing us to compare scores across program backgrounds using independent samples t-tests or non-parametric alternatives. Among 59 participants, 22.0% reported low loneliness levels, 49.1% moderate levels, 25.4% moderately high levels, and 3.4% high levels. Notably, the highest scores emerged in questions …

Information Sharing As A Determinant Of Pro-Environmental Behaviour In Student Population In Ghana, Cyril Amengor, Theophilus Agama, Ohenebeng Boapeah

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

People have always struggled to find a lasting solution to the persistent problem of the management and segregation of waste. The amount and variety of waste produced globally has grown exponentially with the ongoing rise in human population. As a result, there have been several studies conducted in this field, some of which have been supported by private organizations, NGOs, and governments. To protect the environment while progressively achieving global sustainable development, Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) has been advocated as a universal endeavor for each individual. In affluent nations like the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and France, there …

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews

Purpose: Specialty care coordination relies on information flowing bidirectionally between all three participants in the “specialty care triad” — patients, primary care providers (PCPs), and specialists. Measures of coordination should strive to account for the perspectives of each. As we previously developed two surveys to measure coordination of specialty care as experienced by PCPs and specialists, this study aimed to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of a related survey of specialty care coordination as experienced by the patient, thereby completing the suite of surveys among the triad.

Methods: We developed a draft survey based on literature review, patient interviews, …

The Importance Of Mental Health Amongst The Lgbtq+ Community, Adrian Perotin Nov 2023

The Importance Of Mental Health Amongst The Lgbtq+ Community, Adrian Perotin

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2023

When it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, it has become known with more studies and research that many in the community have suffered through traumatic experiences regarding sexual assault and/or violence. This has caused a big impact on the mental health of the victims, but because there is not enough resources to the LGBTQ+ community that are open to them, those victims have a hard time recovering or feeling seen. Amongst the community are of course the youth coming in from the next generations that may unfortunately deal with these issues in safety and mental health, so they deserve to …

The Relationship Between Marital Life And Celibacy In The Catholic Church, Saint-Gilbert Nortilus Nov 2023

The Relationship Between Marital Life And Celibacy In The Catholic Church, Saint-Gilbert Nortilus

School of Theology and Seminary Graduate Papers/Theses

Despite the inordinate number of debates on celibacy, there is still a widely-held notion that celibacy is a problem in the church which needs reform in relation to the status quo proposed by the twenty first century. This paper seeks to shed light on the topic by juxtaposing its reality with that of marriage in light of church teaching. Analyzing the works of Evert, Skudlarek, Salzmann and Kelly, this paper seeks to shine theological light on the reality of the priestly celibacy with the assertion that it is a reality not clearly outlined to the world and that this reality …

The Effects Of Social Comparison On Immediate Mood And Reaction Time Performance, Jane K. Wolterink, Elizabeth A. Weizeorick, Meghan Fox

Masters Theses

Context: Being compared to others in social situations is commonplace, whether at work, school, or sport. For example, athletes typically receive feedback on performance from a coach in front of their teammates. Likewise, during lab experiences, students often receive feedback from their instructors in front of their peers. While feedback has been shown to affect mental health, mood, and self-confidence both positively and negatively, the effects of feedback given as a social comparison have not been studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess how both positive and negative social comparison affects individuals’ immediate mood and reaction time …

BACKGROUND: Systematic characterization of how genetic variation modulates gene regulation in a cell type-specific context is essential for understanding complex traits. To address this question, we profile gene expression and chromatin accessibility in cells from healthy retinae of 20 human donors through single-cell multiomics and genomic sequencing.

RESULTS: We map eQTL, caQTL, allelic-specific expression, and allelic-specific chromatin accessibility in major retinal cell types. By integrating these results, we identify and characterize regulatory elements and genetic variants effective on gene regulation in individual cell types. The majority of identified sc-eQTLs and sc-caQTLs display cell type-specific effects, while the cis-elements containing genetic …

The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the need for rapid molecular diagnostics. Vaccination programs can provide protection and facilitate the opening of society, but newly emergent and existing viral variants capable of evading the immune system endanger their efficacy. Effective surveillance for Variants of Concern (VOC) is therefore important. Rapid and specific molecular diagnostics can provide speed and coverage advantages compared to genomic sequencing alone, benefitting the public health response and facilitating VOC containment. Here we expand the recently developed SARS-CoV-2 CRISPR-Cas detection technology (SHERLOCK) to provide rapid and sensitive discrimination of SARS-CoV-2 VOCs that can be used at point of care, …
