Baghdad Science Journal

In this investigative endeavor, a novel concrete variety incorporating sulfur-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine modification was developed, and its diverse attributes were explored. This innovative concrete was produced using sulfur-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine modification and an array of components. The newly created sulfur-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine modifier was synthesized. The surface texture resulting from this modifier was examined using SEM and EDS techniques. The component ratios within concrete, chemical and physical traits derived from the sulfur-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine modifier, chemical and corrosion resistance of concrete, concrete stability against water absorption, concrete resilience against freezing, physical and mechanical properties, durability, elastic modulus, and thermal expansion coefficient of the examined sulfur-infused concrete were assessed. …

From Mother To Infant, From Placenta To Gut: Understanding Varied Microbiome Profiles In Neonates, Riadh Cheddadi, Venkata Yeramilli, Colin Martin

2020-Current year OA Pubs

The field of human microbiome and gut microbial diversity research has witnessed a profound transformation, driven by advances in omics technologies. These advancements have unveiled essential connections between microbiome alterations and severe conditions, prompting the development of new frameworks through epidemiological studies. Traditionally, it was believed that each individual harbored unique microbial communities acquired early in life, evolving over the course of their lifetime, with little acknowledgment of any prenatal microbial development, but recent research challenges this belief. The neonatal microbiome's onset, influenced by factors like delivery mode and maternal health, remains a subject of intense debate, hinting at potential …

Role Of Sex In The Association Of Socioeconomic Status With Cardiovascular Health In Black Americans: The Jackson Heart Study, Joshua J Joseph, Amaris Williams, Rosevine A Azap, Songzhu Zhao, Guy Brock, David Kline, James B Odei, Randi Foraker, Mario Sims, Laprincess C Brewer, Darrell M Gray Ii, Timiya S Nolan

2020-Current year OA Pubs

BACKGROUND: Socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with cardiovascular health (CVH). Potential differences by sex in this association remain incompletely understood in Black Americans, where SES disparities are posited to be partially responsible for cardiovascular inequities. The association of SES measures (income, education, occupation, and insurance) with CVH scores was examined in the Jackson Heart Study.

METHODS AND RESULTS: American Heart Association CVH components (non-high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure, diet, tobacco use, physical activity, sleep, glycemia, and body mass index) were scored cross-sectionally at baseline (scale: 0-100). Differences in CVH and 95% CIs (Estimate, 95% CI) were calculated using linear regression, adjusting …

A Day And A Half's Journey For A Nephite Dec 2023

A Day And A Half's Journey For A Nephite

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

The narrow neck of land is an important geographical feature in the Book of Mormon. For many years people have debated whether the narrow neck was the Isthmus of Panama, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Southern Mexico, or somewhere else. Some have argued that the neck must have been very narrow, because Alma 22:32 says that the distance across the "narrow neck" of the promised land from the east to the west sea was "a day and a half's journey for a Nephite." But how wide could this distance have been? Recently analyzed information suggests that it could have been …

Beginning Of A New Change? How Pittsburgh Regional Transit’S Pilot Program Could Improve Food Insecurity In The Hill District, Lance Daley Dec 2023

Beginning Of A New Change? How Pittsburgh Regional Transit’S Pilot Program Could Improve Food Insecurity In The Hill District, Lance Daley

D.U.Quark

Food insecurity, a state of not having sufficient access to quality nutrition that inhibits one’s

livelihood, has become a growing national issue as a result of socioeconomic inequities, the COVID-

19 pandemic, and the state of the national economy, among other issues. Although governmental food

assistance programs significantly improve food access and quality issues, many food insecure

individuals still suffer from malnutrition as a result of a lack of access to nutritious food because

healthier foods have a much greater cost than those considered unhealthy. As a result, many opt for

unhealthy options at the supermarket in order to get …

That Thing Ain't Human: The Artificiality Of "Human Authorship" And The Intelligence In Expanding Copyright Authorship To Fully-Autonomous Ai, Ernest Oleksy Dec 2023

That Thing Ain't Human: The Artificiality Of "Human Authorship" And The Intelligence In Expanding Copyright Authorship To Fully-Autonomous Ai, Ernest Oleksy

Cleveland State Law Review

The U.S. Copyright Review Board (the "Board") decided that works entirely created by fully-autonomous artificial intelligence ("AI") are not entitled to copyright protections. The Board based its decision on a copyrightability requirement referred to as “human authorship.” However, the Copyright Act of 1976 (the "Act") never mentions a “human” requirement to copyright authorship, nor do most of the Board’s cited authorities. Denying authorship to intellectually-impressive and economically-valuable works under a poorly-established legal subelement is antithetical to copyright law’s history and to Congress’s constitutional mandate to “promote . . . [the] useful [a]rts . . . .” It leaves creators who …

University Business Students As Charity Trustees: A Win-Win For All?, Carl Evans, Nigel Jackson Dec 2023

University Business Students As Charity Trustees: A Win-Win For All?, Carl Evans, Nigel Jackson

Plymouth Business School

Charities are facing a crisis in recruiting board trustees. Additionally, boards have been criticised for lacking diversity and being unrepresentative of society. The purpose of this paper is to propose a solution to the problem of trustee recruitment, by considering university business students as trustees. Through an analysis of advertised trustee jobs, the proposal is evaluated against degree subject benchmark statements. The findings identify some key person characteristics specified by charities when recruiting trustees. The generic criteria could be met by most students and many of the personal skills are developed by students while at university. However, to address some …

The United States And The Need For An Improved Global Citizenship In The Twenty-First Century: How History Shaped Our Identity As A Nation, Karin Mika

Cleveland State Law Review

This Article describes how accidents of geography and history enabled the United States to become the global power that it has become. It examines how the extended warring in Europe during the Eighteenth and Nineteenth century allowed the United States to develop as a country without the repeated necessity of continually rebuilding, as was happening in Europe. The Article explores how the isolation of the United States enabled it to develop continuity in its initially experimental political system—a continuity that was never available to Europe. These factors enabled the United States to be in the position of being able to …
