Coaching High School English Teachers In Guided Reading For Struggling Readers, Tiffany L. Gallagher, Arlene Grierson, Catherine Susin

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Although small-group guided reading is traditionally an elementary school instructional practice, this study details how high school English teachers perceived its implementation in high school classrooms. As part of a larger, multiyear research project, this 2-year study examined a dual-level coaching professional learning program that included two school district literacy coaches, eight provincial literacy facilitators, and 21 high school teachers. Teachers were coached in the implementation of guided reading and small-group instruction to support students in Grades 9–10 who were struggling with reading. Qualitative methods were used to gather data including observations of the professional learning meetings and teachers’ instruction; …

Empirical Business Research On Modern Slavery In Supply Chains: A Systematic Review, Natalia Szablewska, Krzysztof Kubacki

Plymouth Business School

Modern slavery is a persistent global practice, with an estimated 50 million people trapped in one of its many forms today. In the last decade, attention has shifted to how business facilitates modern slavery and plays a key role in eliminating it from its operations and supply chains. The purpose of this study is to provide a rigorous foundation for scholarly and practice-oriented research by systematically reviewing and synthesising the existing literature to identify key areas for future empirical business research on modern slavery in supply chains. Examination of 26 relevant studies provides an evidence base for future research and …

Jurnal Politik

Solomon Islands – China security deal has concerned Australia. Despite this, the relations between Solomon Islands and Australia have still been maintained through negotiated interaction. Women's Representation And Accessibility In Indonesian Politics: A Study Of Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council, S. Maryamah Kadriyah Sep 2023

Women's Representation And Accessibility In Indonesian Politics: A Study Of Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council, S. Maryamah Kadriyah

Jurnal Politik

This research delves into the challenges and dynamics of women’s political participation in Jakarta, Indonesia. Despite legal frameworks advocating gender equality, like the 30% representation quota, women members of Parliament (MPs) in Jakarta’s politics face significant hurdles, predominantly rooted in a deeply entrenched patriarchal culture. Utilising a qualitative methodology, the study involved comprehensive interviews with female members of Jakarta’s DPRD. The findings reveal a complex interplay of educational background, political motivations, party dynamics, and societal perceptions influencing women’s political careers. The underrepresentation of women in parliament hinders effective gender-centric policy formulation, underscoring the need for enhanced descriptive and substantive representation. …

Is A Smart City Framework The Key To Disaster Resilience? A Systematic Review, Kijin Seong, Junfeng Jiao Sep 2023

Is A Smart City Framework The Key To Disaster Resilience? A Systematic Review, Kijin Seong, Junfeng Jiao

Research Collection College of Integrative Studies

Despite a growing body of research on the smart city framework for disaster resilience, a comprehensive systematic literature review from urban planning perspectives has never been attempted. In this review of smart and resilient cities, we distill vital learning and shared concepts, identify research trends and limitations, and suggest avenues for future research. The results reveal that reviewed articles primarily focused on methodological approaches addressing how to adapt technologies for disaster resilience, yet rarely discussed the sociological approaches to environment, economy, and governance. This study will provide a reference to trace existing research and suggest equitable smart resilience.

A Quantitative Study Of Perceived Fitness And Nutrition Levels Of Secondary Educators In Relation To Their Overall Job Satisfaction Program At A Private Midwestern University, Jessica Arico

Dissertations

The profession of education traditionally embodies an idea of educating children on math, science, social studies, and English along with other elective course areas. In recent decades, however, the burnout rates and mental health of educators have become a subject of media attention and the basis for many new professional development programs. The one element wholly ignored in this space is the physiological wellbeing of educators and the impact physical health has on mental health and job satisfaction. This study set out to provide a baseline for beginning the discussion and future research on the physiological impact on educators and …

Carson V. Makin: Public Funding For Private Religious Schools And The Continued Erosion Of The Religion Clauses, Alyssa Schwartz

Denver Law Review Forum

Alyssa Schwartz examines Carson v. Makin and argues that the Court’s decision disregards precedent and attempts to rewrite history to diminish the seperation of church and state as a bedrock principle of our nation, and rules in favor of religion which erodes the Court’s constitutional neutrality.
