(R1884) Motion Of Variable Mass Body In The Seventh-Degree Henon-Heiles System, Shiv K. Sahdev, Abdullah A. Ansari Dec 2022

(R1884) Motion Of Variable Mass Body In The Seventh-Degree Henon-Heiles System, Shiv K. Sahdev, Abdullah A. Ansari

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The goal of this paper is to reveal numerically the generalized Henon-Heiles system, that is, in the seventh-degree potential function where the smallest body mass varies. Utilizing the seventh degree potential function, we determine the equations of motion for the variable mass generalized Henon-Heiles system. Then we perform the graphical works such as locations of parking points, allowed regions of motion, and attracting domain basins. Lastly, using the Meshcherskii space transformations, we investigate stability states for these parking points.

(R1888) On The Mackey-Glass Model With A Piecewise Constant Argument, Mehtap Lafci Büyükkahraman

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we deal with the Mackey-Glass model with piecewise constant argument. Because the corresponding difference equation is the difference solution of the equation, the difference equation can clearly predict the dynamic behavior of the equation. So, we look at how the difference equation behaves. We study the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point of the difference equation and it is obtained that this point is a repeller under some conditions. Also, it is shown that every oscillatory solution of the difference equation has semi-cycles of length at least two, and every oscillatory solution of the difference equation is attracted …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

A Markovian retrial queue with reneging and working vacation under N-control pattern is investigated in this article. To describe the system, we employ a QBD analogy. The model’s stability condition is deduced. The stationary probability distribution is gotten by utilizing the matrix-analytic technique. The conditional stochastic decomposition of the line length in the orbit is calculated. The performance measures and special cases are designed. The model’s firmness is demonstrated numerically.

How The Liberal First Amendment Under-Protects Democracy, Tabatha Abu El-Haj Dec 2022

How The Liberal First Amendment Under-Protects Democracy, Tabatha Abu El-Haj

Minnesota Law Review Vols. 106:2 onward (2021-present)

This Article advances a distinct theoretical account of the First Amendment that stresses its role as the underwriter of a republican form of government. Predicated on a more accurate description of the processes of self-governance, the advanced theory delivers a construction of the First Amendment that actually protects democracy in all its facets. By contrast, as currently construed, the First Amendment operates to the detriment of democracy. A singular preoccupation with speech as the mechanism of self-governance obscures the critical role of political participation as conduct. Accordingly, disruptive assemblies get less protection than disruptive speech, and the Court is blind …

Developing Distributed Real-Time Hybrid Simulation For Dynamic Response Evaluation Of Floating Wind Turbine, Hezha Lutfalla Sadraddin Dec 2022

Developing Distributed Real-Time Hybrid Simulation For Dynamic Response Evaluation Of Floating Wind Turbine, Hezha Lutfalla Sadraddin

Dissertations

Floating wind turbine (FWT) has a significant role in producing clean and sustainable energy in unlimited spaces with more steady wind and less cost. The design, construction, and safe operation of FWTs require a deep understanding of their dynamic responses under combined aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loads. Conventional FWT model experiments utilize wave tanks and wind tunnels. However, laboratory size and capacity and the scaling conflicts between the Froude and the Reynold numbers in these coupled wind-wave loading tests impose challenges to replicate dynamic responses of FWT. Alternatively, real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS), which combines numerical simulation and physical experiment of FWT …

Reducing Opioid Use In Older Adults Through Pain Management Screening And Use Of A Pain Treatment Algorithm, Erika Power

Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones

Older adults are prescribed more medications for chronic issues due to increased age, a phenomenon called polypharmacy. Unfortunately, older adults also experience persistent pain more often than younger adults. This age group is prone to utilizing opioids for longer than expected due to lack of screening for pain by providers accompanied by a lack of open and ongoing discussion about pain management options with patients. Evidence suggested that older adults are at an increased risk for improper use of opioids for pain management and often suffer side effects from long-term opioid use. Some possible side effects of opioid use in …
