(R1976) A Novel Approach To Solve Fuzzy Rough Matrix Game With Two Players, Vinod Jangid, Ganesh Kumar, Gaurav Sharama, Vishnu Narayan Mishra Dec 2022

(R1976) A Novel Approach To Solve Fuzzy Rough Matrix Game With Two Players, Vinod Jangid, Ganesh Kumar, Gaurav Sharama, Vishnu Narayan Mishra

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper proposes a new method for solving a two-person zero-sum fuzzy matrix game with goals, payoffs, and decision variables represented as triangular fuzzy rough numbers. We created a pair of fully fuzzy rough linear programming problems for players. Triangular fuzzy rough numbers can be used to formulate two fuzzy linear programming problems for the first player in the form of upper approximation intervals and lower approximation intervals. Two problems for the second player can be created in the same way. These problems have been split into five sub-crisp problems for the player first and five sub-crisp problems for the …

(R1518) The Dual Spherical Curves And Surfaces In Terms Of Vectorial Moments, Süleyman Şenyurt, Abdussamet Çalışkan

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In the article, the parametric expressions of the dual ruled surfaces are expressed in terms of the vectorial moments of the Frenet vectors. The integral invariants of these surfaces are calculated. It is seen that the dual parts of these invariants can be stated by the real terms. Finally, we present examples of the ruled surfaces with bases such as helix and Viviani’s curves.

Beyond Elements And Principles: Bringing A Visual Culture Curriculum To High School Art, Julie Winston

Theses

The elements and principles of design are the building blocks that art students use to create a composition. These foundational tools have been used by art students throughout their elementary and secondary school years, as required by state and national art standards. This project is an example of how to enrich high school introductory art classes by implementing lessons that include visual culture education. A combination of successful art museum teen programs and existing visual culture curriculum were used to aid in the development of a semester’s worth of lessons that emphasize visual culture. Visual culture curricula produces more student …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Polymer Blends Containing Plant Oil-Derived Copolymers, Najah Mhesn Dec 2022

Fabrication And Characterization Of Polymer Blends Containing Plant Oil-Derived Copolymers, Najah Mhesn

All Dissertations

Growing environmental concerns associated with the production and disposal of traditional plastics, the depletion of non-renewable fossil resources, as well as pollution of landfills and the oceans have motivated researchers to pursue alternatives to petroleum-based materials. To this end, this research aims to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to petroleum-based plastics, thereby reducing the dependence on non-renewable resources. Namely, we report on the fabrication and characterization of polymer blends consisting of copolymers derived from soybean oil (as a minor phase) and matrix made from commercially available polymers: Polystyrene (PS) and Poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The copolymers employed in this work were obtained …

Intelligent Autonomous Inspections Using Deep Learning And Detection Markers, Alejandro Martinez Acosta Dec 2022

Intelligent Autonomous Inspections Using Deep Learning And Detection Markers, Alejandro Martinez Acosta

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Inspection of industrial and scientific facilities is a crucial task that must be performed regularly. These inspections tasks ensure that the facilityâ??s structure is in safe operational conditions for humans. Furthermore, the safe operation of industrial machinery, is dependent on the conditions of the environment. For safety reasons, inspections for both structural integrity and equipment is often manually performed by operators or technicians. Naturally, this is often a tedious and laborious task. Additionally, buildings and structures frequently contain hard to reach or dangerous areas, which leads to the harm, injury or death of humans. Autonomous robotic systems offer an attractive solution …

Priorities For Nato Partnerships In An Era Of Strategic Competition, Lisa Aronsson, Brett Swaney Dec 2022

Priorities For Nato Partnerships In An Era Of Strategic Competition, Lisa Aronsson, Brett Swaney

INSS Strategic Perspectives

The Joseph Biden administration’s 2022 National Defense Strategy (NDS) establishes the People’s Republic of China as the “pacing challenge” and a priority for the United States, followed by Russia’s “acute” threat in Europe. The NDS also emphasizes the importance of working with allies and partners to address these threats and reinforce deterrence. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the most institutionalized and capable of U.S. alliances, aspires to play a role in addressing both the threat from Russia in Europe and the longerterm global security implications of China’s rise. With a position of leadership in NATO, the United States has …

Dangerous Alliances: Russia’S Strategic Inroads In Latin America, Douglas Farah, Marianne Richardson Dec 2022

Dangerous Alliances: Russia’S Strategic Inroads In Latin America, Douglas Farah, Marianne Richardson

INSS Strategic Perspectives

Russia’s strategic interests in Latin America center on establishing a multisector, persistent presence in the Western Hemisphere as a counterweight to U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) presence in the former Soviet Union and bordering states. The engagement focuses on aggressive implementation of what the West calls the doctrine of “hybrid warfare.” This approach fuses hard and soft power across multiple domains, recognizing the existence of a permanent state of confrontation with the West. This strategy undergirds the rationalization and operationalization of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Inevitable U.S. Return And The Future Of Great Power Competition In South Asia, Thomas F. Lynch Dec 2022

The Inevitable U.S. Return And The Future Of Great Power Competition In South Asia, Thomas F. Lynch

INSS Strategic Perspectives

More than a year after America’s painful Afghanistan withdrawal, the future of U.S. and Western security interests in South Asia no longer relates mainly to the terrorism threat from Salafi jihadism, which has receded and reoriented there to be most menacing toward Pakistan and China. Instead, American security interests now require the proper posture for long-term Great Power competition (GPC) with China. Such a posture in South Asia requires patient, persistent growth in the slowly maturing, overt strategic security partnership with India and a quiet regeneration of a transactional one with Pakistan.

Title Ix In Historical Context: 50 Years Of Progress And Political Gamesmanship, Helen A. Drew, Marissa Egloff, Josie Middione

Journal Articles

On the fiftieth anniversary of Title IX, it is important to recognize both its historic nature and how it has evolved in political and social context. This Article will begin by examining the history of women’s athletics pre–Title IX, focusing on what activities women participated in, why, and how societal norms shaped their ability to do so. Next, the Article will examine the status of women’s athletic opportunities as Title IX was first proposed, with an emphasis upon its nexus to the women’s rights movement and the Equal Rights Amendment initiative. The Article will then provide historical background for key …

The Applicability Of Joint Source-Channel Coding Systems To Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry Data, Jesse Richmond Dec 2022

The Applicability Of Joint Source-Channel Coding Systems To Aeronautical Mobile Telemetry Data, Jesse Richmond

Theses and Dissertations

Broadcast spectrum restrictions require greater efficiency from wireless transmission systems, particularly in applications where sections of spectrum previously reserved for military purposes have been sold to private interests. A joint source-channel coding system, in tandem with smart data selection techniques, is proposed as a potential solution to this problem. The workings of this joint source-channel coding system are detailed, with particular attention given to the decoding process.

Building Software Compliant Multidimensional Datasets Through Programmatic Solutions, Jon Enoch Jones Dec 2022

Building Software Compliant Multidimensional Datasets Through Programmatic Solutions, Jon Enoch Jones

Theses and Dissertations

Meteorological and other multidimensional, georeferenced data is used extensively in science and engineering. These datasets are produced, shared, and used by organizations all over the world. Conventions have been developed specifying the metadata and format of these datasets in an effort to standardize the data and make it compatible with current and future software and web services. By necessity, the conventions are complex and difficult to implement correctly, resulting in useful datasets that are unusable in many applications due to lack of compliance with the conventions. By programmatically assigning metadata and guiding the dataset creator through the dataset creation process, …

Hybrid Machine Learning And Physics-Based Modeling Approaches For Process Control And Optimization, Junho Park Dec 2022

Hybrid Machine Learning And Physics-Based Modeling Approaches For Process Control And Optimization, Junho Park

Theses and Dissertations

Transformer neural networks have made a significant impact on natural language processing. The Transformer network self-attention mechanism effectively addresses the vanishing gradient problem that limits a network learning capability, especially when the time series gets longer or the size of the network gets deeper. This dissertation examines the usage of the Transformer model for time-series forecasting and customizes it for a simultaneous multistep-ahead prediction model in a surrogate model predictive control (MPC) application. The proposed method demonstrates enhanced control performance and computation efficiency compared to the Long-short term memory (LSTM)-based MPC and one-step-ahead prediction model structures for both LSTM and …

Entomology and Plant Pathology Faculty Publications and Presentations

Purpose of Review

Culicoides biting midges transmit several pathogens of veterinary importance in North America, but the vector status of many midge species is unresolved. Additionally, the available evidence of vector competence in these species is scattered and variable. The purpose of this review is to summarize current knowledge on confirmed and putative North American Culicoides arbovirus vectors.

Recent Findings

While the vector status of Culicoides sonorensis (EHDV, BTV, VSV) and Culicoides insignis (BTV) are well established, several other potential vector species have been recently identified. Frequently, these species are implicated based primarily on host-feeding, abundance, and/or detection of arboviruses …

Investigating The Prevalence Of Social Anxiety In Lgb College Students, Brianna Barnes-Harrington Dec 2022

Investigating The Prevalence Of Social Anxiety In Lgb College Students, Brianna Barnes-Harrington

Dissertations

This project examined the gap in the literature on LGB college students and social anxiety. The dearth of information around the prevalence and impact of social anxiety on the college population and the LGB population is important because social anxiety is known to be prevalent and chronic, affecting all areas of an individual’s life, but especially impacting the creation of social support networks and therefore access to social supports. Social support is one of the primary protective factors and promoters of resilience among all people, especially in marginalized communities like the LGBTQ community. Knowing that such a prevalent disorder is …
