University Inclusion Index: Inclusion At Brigham Young University, Rachel Zierenberg, Brigit Cooper, Amanda Foltz
University Inclusion Index: Inclusion At Brigham Young University, Rachel Zierenberg, Brigit Cooper, Amanda Foltz
Student Works
In order to investigate inclusion specifically at Brigham Young University (BYU), we measured students’ perception of belonging and representation through the use of our University Inclusion Index (UII). The UII is a measure of belonging and representation with 16 items on a 5-point Likert scale. This measure was distributed to a total sample of 171 BYU students, 60 of whom were self-identified minority students. The UII had high reliability (α = .92), high validity, and high internal consistency (≥ .55). The UII reports high face validity with 97% of respondents identifying inclusion at BYU. Factor analysis revealed one primary factor, …

Taxonomic Assessment Of Two Wild House Mouse Subspecies Using Whole-Genome Sequencing., Raman Akinyanju Lawal, Verity L Mathis, Mary Barter, Jeremy R. Charette, Alexis Garretson, Beth L Dumont
Faculty Research 2022
The house mouse species complex (Mus musculus) is comprised of three primary subspecies. A large number of secondary subspecies have also been suggested on the basis of divergent morphology and molecular variation at limited numbers of markers. While the phylogenetic relationships among the primary M. musculus subspecies are well-defined, relationships among secondary subspecies and between secondary and primary subspecies remain less clear. Here, we integrate de novo genome sequencing of museum-stored specimens of house mice from one secondary subspecies (M. m. bactrianus) and publicly available genome sequences of house mice previously characterized as M. m. helgolandicus, with whole genome sequences …

On The Firefly (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) Species Of Carl Linnaeus, Oliver Keller
On The Firefly (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) Species Of Carl Linnaeus, Oliver Keller
Insecta Mundi
The firefly species described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 and 1767 (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) were checked to determine the actual dates of publication. Nine out of twelve species were originally described in 1758 and not in 1767 as published in the majority of firefly literature. Lampyris hespera Linnaeus, 1767 as a junior synonym of Aspisoma lampyris (Linnaeus, 1758) is established.
New Distributional Records For Mexican Cleridae (Coleoptera) With The Description Of Three New Species, Jacques Rifkind
New Distributional Records For Mexican Cleridae (Coleoptera) With The Description Of Three New Species, Jacques Rifkind
Insecta Mundi
New state records for 32 species of Mexican Cleridae (Coleoptera) are presented. In addition, 10 species of Cleridae are reported for Mexico for the first time (new country records). Cymatodera bezarki new species and Enoclerus sepultura new species are described from Chiapas, Mexico. Enoclerus primulus new species is described from Chiapas, Mexico and El Salvador.
Approximately 550 species of Cleridae are known from Mexico. These are divided among approximately 63 genera, of which the most speciose are Cymatodera Gray (ca. 110 species), Enoclerus Gahan (ca. 105 species) and Phyllobaenus Dejean (ca. 40 species). Faunistic studies are limited to Vaurie’s (1952) …
Vitamin D3 Status And The Cardiovascular Response To Head Down Flexion In Healthy Adults, Justin Pascual
Vitamin D3 Status And The Cardiovascular Response To Head Down Flexion In Healthy Adults, Justin Pascual
Theses - ALL
Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to elucidate relationships linking vitamin Dconsumption and the vestibulo-sympathetic reflex (VSR) by exploring the associations between self-reported vitamin D consumption and the cardiovascular responses to head-down flexion (HDF), a maneuver known to activate the vestibulo-sympathetic response. Background: During orthostasis, the body attempts to maintain cerebral blood flow, thereby avoiding syncope. Orthostatic intolerance, the inability to withstand postural changes, occurs when cardiac output is not maintained during orthostasis and is highlighted by symptoms including lightheadedness, impaired cognition, loss of balance, low blood pressure, and syncope. The cardiovascular and vestibular systems work in tandem …
An Investigation Into The Role Of Geometrically Necessary Dislocations In Multi-Strain Path Deformation In Automotive Sheet Alloys, Rishabh Sharma
An Investigation Into The Role Of Geometrically Necessary Dislocations In Multi-Strain Path Deformation In Automotive Sheet Alloys, Rishabh Sharma
Theses and Dissertations
Multiple strain path changes during forming lead to complex geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) development in strain gradient fields, inducing internal stresses that contribute to the Bauschinger effect, residual stresses, and springback which alters the final geometrical shape of the part. In order to analyze and design improved processing routes, models must capture the evolution of these internal stresses. However, most models capture the effects of these stresses via phenomenological approaches that require calibration to each new material and strain path. The development of models that capture the underlying physics at the sub-grain level is underway but requires in-depth studies of …

The Unfulfilled Promise Of Indian Water Rights Settlements, Heather Tanana, Elisabeth Paxton Parker
The Unfulfilled Promise Of Indian Water Rights Settlements, Heather Tanana, Elisabeth Paxton Parker
Utah Law Faculty Scholarship
As climate change threatens an already-scarce resource, quantifying tribal water rights is critical to providing additional certainty to an uncertain future. In order to protect the future of their communities, it is critical that tribal water rights move from merely theoretical paper rights to actualized wet water rights.

Crustacean Assemblage Structure Over The Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone Of The Mid-Atlantic Ridge Collected During The 2009 Henry B. Bigelow Expedition, Kathryn Medina
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
The Charlie Gibbs Fracture Zone (CGFZ) consists of two nearly parallel fracture transform faults that intersect the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) axis. This area has high primary productivity and biomass levels due to the topography and water. A predominant hydrographic feature of the MAR is the Sub-Polar Front (SPF) which runs along the southern edge of the CGFZ and is known as a biogeographical boundary for multiple species. As part of The Census of Marine Life project Patterns and Processes of the Ecosystem of the northern Mid-Atlantic (MAR-ECO), this study analyzed the abundance and distribution patterns of the CGFZ crustacean community …

Linking Parental Wellbeing With The Wellbeing Of Care Leaver And Care Experienced University Students: Analysing Relevance And Interconnections Through The Lens Of ‘Lived Lives’, Dr Lorraine Green, Dr Lisa Martina Moran
Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies
This article analyses multidisciplinary research and theoretical perspectives on wellbeing, linking this with the findings from a narrative, biographical study of care-experienced university students in a UK university. In this paper, we examine the relevance of concepts of parental wellbeing, and wellbeing more generally, to 'linked lives'', defined as interrelated life events, experiences, memories and processes of narrativizing life histories both in and across time. While wellbeing is often depicted as an uplifting and uniformly positive concept in policy and research, it is also contested and opaque and is therefore difficult to define and operationalise. Elucidating young people's voices on …
