Reducing 30-Day Hospital Readmission Among Mentally Ill Homeless Men With Substance Use Disorder, Chibuogwu Ugbana
Reducing 30-Day Hospital Readmission Among Mentally Ill Homeless Men With Substance Use Disorder, Chibuogwu Ugbana
DNP Qualifying Manuscripts
Abstract
Background: Psychiatric inpatient readmission of mentally ill homeless men is greater than that of the overall population. Substance use disorders co-occur with high prevalence in patients diagnosed with mental illness. For mentally ill homeless individuals discharged after inpatient treatment, substance use disorder negatively impacts health behavior, and medication non-compliant, resulting in hospital readmission.
Problem: In an acute care psychiatric facility in Northern California, the greatest readmission after inpatient hospitalization occurs at 53.9% in a week and 74.8% in two weeks of discharge. For homeless individuals, substance use disorder complicates personal problems and decreases the likelihood of a long-term …

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
In this work we study the case of agents willing to engage in a Renewable Energy Community (REC). The municipality – being the promoter of the REC – burdens all the investment costs (RE plants, storage, local grid interventions) and entrusts an aggregator of its operation paying a fixed tariff. The latter, acting as a monopolist, is also the sole supplier of energy for the REC’s members. The management of the REC requires the collection of energy data from the members to assure its efficient operation on the side of the self-consumption and exchange of energy within it. Such data …

Master of Public Health Program Student Publications
Objective As the population’s longevity is increasing over time, the number of comorbidities that individuals are suffering with are also becoming evident. The objective is to determine whether individuals living with arthritis have difficulty in social activity participation while suffering with depression. Using the 2019 National Health Interview Survey, this analysis included males and females between 18 to 85 years of age. The dependent variable was social activity participation, where it was identifying participants whether they are or are not having difficulty taking part in social activities. The primary independent variables were depression and arthritis. Other covariates included the demographics …

Training Transfer, Sarah Stepanek, Megan Paul
Umbrella Summaries
What is training transfer?
Training transfer is formally defined as “the degree to which trainees effectively apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained in a training context to the job” (Baldwin & Ford, 1988, p. 63). Training transfer has been conceptualized based on three main factors, which are detailed further below.
► Maintenance versus generalization: Maintenance consists of the degree to which knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) from the learning environment are able to persist over time, whereas generalization consists of being able to take KSAs acquired from a learning environment and apply them to situations or settings that are …

Certain benthic foraminifera thrive in marine sediments with low or undetectable oxygen. Potential survival avenues used by these supposedly aerobic protists include fermentation and anaerobic respiration, although details on their adaptive mechanisms remain elusive. To better understand the metabolic versatility of foraminifera, we studied two benthic species that thrive in oxygen-depleted marine sediments. Here we detail, via transcriptomics and metatranscriptomics, differential gene expression of Nonionella stella and Bolivina argentea, collected from Santa Barbara Basin, California, USA, in response to varied oxygenation and chemical amendments. Organelle-specific metabolic reconstructions revealed these two species utilize adaptable mitochondrial and peroxisomal metabolism. N. stella, most …

Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type glioblastoma (GBM) has a dismal prognosis. A better understanding of tumor evolution holds the key to developing more effective treatment. Here we study GBM's natural evolutionary trajectory by using rare multifocal samples. We sequenced 61,062 single cells from eight multifocal IDH wild-type primary GBMs and defined a natural evolution signature (NES) of the tumor. We show that the NES significantly associates with the activation of transcription factors that regulate brain development, including MYBL2 and FOSL2. Hypoxia is involved in inducing NES transition potentially via activation of the HIF1A-FOSL2 axis. High-NES tumor cells could recruit and polarize …

Fall 2022 Showcase
Home is a documentary series of photographs that depicts the liminal space of one’s early twenties as they attempt to find where they belong. I explore these themes using three places I call home: my apartment, my parents’ house in Water Valley, Mississippi, and my boyfriend’s house across the street. The physical closeness of my boyfriend’s and parents’ homes allows these metaphors to come through in image. Is home where you grew up, where you spend the most time, where you keep your things, or where you feel most comfortable? Perhaps it is an amalgamation of all these, constantly evolving. …
Cross The Railroads, Fred Nettles
Cross The Railroads, Fred Nettles
Fall 2022 Showcase
“Cross the Railroads” is inspired by a combination of things. Very recently, I learned that Clarksdale was considered a sundown town by many of its residents. On one side of the railroad tracks, the Black residents felt safe and were away from most of the violence; whereas, when the sun set across the tracks, Black people weren’t allowed on that side of town. When scouting the locations and analyzing the pictures in detail, I wanted to capture the entire essence of Clarksdale, Mississippi past, present and future.
Growing up as one of fourteen children in Conway, MS, Fredderick Nettles’ interest …

Fall 2022 Showcase
This collection of photography is a documentation of something that I have taken notice of for a long time. My family lives in the Midwest, my friends live all over. I am always on the road. I have driven from Kansas to Florida, from Texas to Tennessee. I have long been fascinated with the strong religious, mostly Christian, imagery, signs and symbols that flank our highways. But it’s not just our highways, it’s our back roads, it’s our gas stations, it’s everywhere. As a cradle Catholic, I struggle between being in awe and being critical of these structures. What purpose …

Fall 2022 Showcase
4 Corners is a photo exploration of the intersection of Molly Barr Road and North Lamar Boulevard in Oxford, Mississippi. This intersection is full of different people coming together to create a center full of food and community. With new construction and development happening just a stone’s throw from the intersection, I couldn’t help but wonder how this will affect the businesses and people that make this location what it is.
During lunches at the 4 corners, I observed people taking time to relax and connect in the middle of a gravel parking lot. With the addition of an authentic …

The oil market is a volatile universe. The price of the commodity has a profound impact both on the national and global economies and on the lives of everyday consumers. Consider the high prices of 2022 compared with the record lows seen in 2020, the price of oil affects almost everything. The United States is one of the top oil producing nations in the world. The size and importance of the industry has led to a somewhat unique area of the legal practice known as oil and gas law. Among its many tenants is an instrument known as a farmout …
