How Can Design Thinking Be A Tool For Inspiring Creativity Among Adult Learners, Nicole J. Brower
How Can Design Thinking Be A Tool For Inspiring Creativity Among Adult Learners, Nicole J. Brower
Masters Projects
This research will partner the best practices of creativity education and those of adult learners to answer how design thinking can inspire creativity among adult learners in higher education. This survey-based qualitative research project used thematic analysis to gather the impression of instructors who use design thinking in their teaching and adult students who have encountered design thinking in their higher education coursework. Gathering impressions and coding the data highlights a theme that may shed light on the research question.

You Do Not Have The Right To Remain Silent: The Lack Of Miranda Within “Child Welfare”, Jane Weiss
Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice (ERSJ) Blog
Reform within the “child welfare” system is widely discussed due to the systems prejudicial nature. The system is called many names: the family policing system, the family regulation system, and the family destruction system.] Many Black and Brown families, specifically, struggle with systemic racism embedded in the “child welfare” system that causes constant fear that minor flaws will lead to family separation.] While many activists call for the system to be abolished, many supporters of abolition understand that the goal can only be achieved through reforms that hold the perpetrators accountable. However, many activists have had little luck fixing a …

Overcoming The Challenge Of Exploration: How Decompartmentalization Of Internal Communication Enhances The Effect Of Exploration On Employee Inventive Performance, Lin Jiang, Brent B. Clark, Daniel B. Turban
Marketing & Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications
Drawing upon the notion of boundaryless organizations and upon the information processing perspective of organizational design, we investigate the decompartmentalization of internal communication as a unique organizational context that moderates the relationship between R&D employees’ exploration behaviors and their individual inventive performance. We test our hypotheses using a novel combination of survey and archival data. We find that R&D employees who explore more generate inventions that are more valuable only when in workplaces characterized by high communication decompartmentalization. Such workplaces have more frequent communication between R&D and other units, more employee mobility via cross-unit project rotations, or greater managerial support …
A United Failure: The Failure Of The United Nations, United States, And Global Community In Preventing And Responding To The 1994 Rwandan Genocide, Josh Ratsch
Honors College Theses
The Rwandan Genocide represents a glaring failure of the global community to provide humanitarian protection to targets of ethnic violence and slaughter. The complete indifference displayed by the United Nations provided extremist Hutu leaders with an environment for killing without a threat of foreign intervention. Calls by the leader of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR), Roméo Dallaire to reinforce the mission both before and during the slaughter fell upon deaf ears as UN leaders attempted to justify their inaction. Accounts from Rwandan representatives, who at the start of the genocide held a position on the UN Security …

Public Health Sciences Articles
HPV vaccination is most effective if received before initiation of sexual activity. Previous studies suggested that young adult women who were not sexually active were not interested in receiving the vaccine because they did not think it was necessary. Whether this misperception is still prevalent today-and also shared by men-is unknown. This study examined whether sexual activity was associated with HPV vaccine uptake (initiation and completion) among university students. A cross-sectional study was conducted between February and May 2021 among students (n = 951) at a public Midwestern University. Sexual activity was categorized as "never" or "ever" had oral and/or …

Constant Observation The Benchmark Study, Kalana Sanders
Constant Observation The Benchmark Study, Kalana Sanders
MSN Capstone Projects
Constant observation is defined as “an increased level of observation and supervision which continuous one-to-one monitoring techniques are utilized to assure the safety and wellbeing of an individual patient in the patient care environment. In the hospital setting constant observation has become the most used resource for mental health patients. The use of constant observation has significantly improved patient safety outcomes reducing falls and suicide rates drastically. With one study in Pennsylvania showing a vast improvement in patient safety in simply one-month times. As fall rates decreased from 53,966 falls occurring without the implementation of constant observation to only 323 …

Switching Between Topological Edge States In Plasmonic Systems Using Phase-Change Materials, Yin Huang, Yuecheng Shen, Georgios Veronis
Faculty Publications
We introduce non-Hermitian plasmonic waveguide-cavity structures based on the Aubry-Andre-Harper model to realize switching between right and left topological edge states (TESs) using the phase-change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST). We show that switching between the crystalline and amorphous phases of GST leads to a shift of the dispersion relation of the optimized structure so that a right TES for the crystalline phase, and a left TES for the amorphous phase occur at the same frequency. Thus, we realize switching between right and left TESs at that frequency by switching between the crystalline and amorphous phases of GST. Our results could be …

Professional Practices (ART 399)
In my work, I lean towards the idea that my art could make people think about others around them. I was mainly inspired to do this by a video I was shown in high school that basically encouraged people to try and put themselves in other peoples’ shoes. I tend to lean towards a cartoony art style because I would like to go into the animation industry and I also like to give my art a comedic tone to it. As a graphic designer, I like to utilize all the tools that I have learned throughout college. In terms of …

Redistricting: Federal Law, State Constitution, And The Courts, Arisha Andha
Redistricting: Federal Law, State Constitution, And The Courts, Arisha Andha
Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice (ERSJ) Blog
Gerrymandering through the method of redistricting poses a grave threat to our democracy. Redistricting is the redrawing of voting districts to reflect the census data collected every decade. Redistricting is supposed to be a bipartisan process that is reflective of the population, but laws surrounding the practice allow for partisan manipulation and racial discrimination. The practices of including or excluding specific groups from specific districts, also called gerrymandering, allow for districts to be redrawn so that the district favors one political party over another in elections and is inherently undemocratic Section 2 of the Voting Rights Acts (VRA) prohibits any …
